Mark, these guys are right on go to a good pro shop, they will hook you up. I agree that you should buy the best you can afford. I reccomend the PSE pro shop in Tucson if you are near the area, a indoor and outdoor range, try it before you buy it! Pse pro shop has set ups in all price ranges.

Shortpants and COOSEFAN's adventure
mulie hunter replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Coosefan, Great story and a nice deer. Just shows hard work and persistance payoff. You could of sent a couple of those 100" across the road. -
Just got in from hunting unit 35a, first whitetail hunt in 12 years. We didn't bag a deer, but I had a sucessful hunting trip, took my 11 year old son and we had a great time. The country where we hunted is very beautiful. I must confess being a mule deer hunter all my life these deer are harder to hunt than mulies(it hurts to say that!).The highlite of the hunt for me and my son was watching a fawn race around in circles on the side of a hill, then stop jump in the air and take off again, all the while the other fawn just watched it and mom bedded down, We had a great hunt. Thanks to everyone for the advice. Now it's 2 weeks to the kids junior hunt in 36a(any antlered deer) we'll go after mulies, for sure.

Congrats, nice buck!

Hunted there last weekend. Area around parker canyon lake was hunted hard, heard of a couple bucks taken there. Sunnyside also had alot of hunters. Deer were staying in the bottoms, holding tight in the cover. Good luck.

How about if they just take a hunter ed. course and maybe learn good hunting ethics. Know your limits as a hunter, don't take bad shots. Just because someone can hit a deer @ 400 yards doesn't mean I can, know your limits.I could keep going but I'll stop.

I'm interested in this subject, I sure would like to know how the moon affects deer. I always heard and believed that deer would feed at night with a full moon.

I actually have one, but still have problems trying to post a photo, always says file too big? AZRDHD did good I'll see if he can help me.

I've never shot a coues but of all the mulies I've killed the longest was about 150 yards, with most being 100 yards or less.

Exactly TAM, There is a bias against archery. Test for everybody or test for nobody. I was out this weekend for the early rifle hunt. The majority of the time when there was shots, it would be three, four, five shots in a row. How proficent are these rifle hunters? How many people out there can hit a running shot at a coues with a rifle at 200-300 yards? Alot of people were trying. Bob Right on Bob, same thing in 35a heard many 3-5 shot groups, even talked to 2 hunters who wounded deer and never recovered them. I think more animals are wounded in rifle hunts than archery.
