Opening day Quail hunt
mulie hunter replied to mulie hunter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Sat. didn't go as well Total of 17 birds, and that was split between 3 adults and 3 kids. But it was great being out. Saw 2 desert turtles also. -
That is a truly amazing mule deer, And I think coosefan is right if you took him you'd have to get a life size mount. I've only saw one albino deer in my life it was a doe in unit 27.

I'll be at my honey hole this weekend, I should limit on Gambel's quail. I don't know about other areas of the state but the area I hunt is loaded with Quail.

I shot my Moose with a 30-06 shooting 180gr nosler partitions. It took four solid shots to finally put him on the ground...........I don't know if anything else would have done it faster or with less shots? I like the tried and true 7mm and the 300 win mag. My coues gun is the dependable .270. My scope failed on my 300 win. in Alaska, so I used my buddy's 30-06 for my Moose. With that said....I would spend more money and thought on which scope to put on your new rifle than which caliber! just my $.02, JIM> I agree coosefan the scope is just as important as the rifle. As far as if any other caliber may have taken the moose down faster, I don't know those things are built like a mack truck, maybe your 300 win?

Got back from scouting 35a , To sum it up,Frustrated! 1st scout trip saw 3 bucks, this trip saw flock of turkeys, herd of Javelina, couldn't find the bucks though, only saw 3 whitetail does & three mulie does.It has me wondering where to be opening morning. Hopefully I'll have time for one more trip. Is Whitetail hunting always this frustrating?

I don't know, but it's cool just flip it back over and keep on going. -
I'm primarily a bowhunter myself, but when I rifle hunt nothing beats the 30-06, from knock down power to long range shooting, this caliber has it all, not to mention the wide range of loads it is available in. I'm currently using Hornady 165 grain light magnums (-6.6" @ 300 yards.) From varmints to Moose nothing beats the tried, the true, the tested 30-06.

Thanks elkhunter, I've noticed the area is very wet, streams running, water everywhere. I need the calmer deer, and maybe they are scattered out, that's why were seeing low numbers.

Unit 10 archery bull
mulie hunter replied to Deadeye Productions's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Awesome Bull, I know I couldn't Video, call & hunt all at the same time, The Hunting part is challenging enough for me. Great Job. -
I agree compared to a Mulie they're small deer, but they seem alot harder to hunt. It takes about 2 hours to drive to Canelo from Arizona city, It's located between Tucson & Phoenix. Thanks Bobbyo for the good advice.

The bows at Pse are brand new and most are previous year models, my past 2 bows were bought there. You can get a great bow package for under $300.00. My AR 37 an '05 model was $508.00 out the door!! My Pse Carrera bought in '05 was 269.00, these are package prices. They have a indoor & outdoor range so you can shoot them before you buy!!!
