Keep what you got, shoulder the load, and buy some awesome binoculars. -
Optics: Swaro 12x50EL's or 15x56

I have used the 10's for 14 years and loved them. Got some 12's last year and the difference is phenomenal. The 12's are on a completely different level. -
I read somewhere that a first years hens chicks have a low survival rate, compared to every year after. I passed a hen this morning laying in the bar ditch with her head flat in the dirt. I got out of the truck and walked back to look at her thinking she had been run over. At about ten feet she got up and putted off a short ways. She was laying on these newborns, probably a day old about the size of tennis balls. When I drove off she came back and rounded them up and led them off the road.

A friend returned to elk camp in 1989 in unit 27 and swore to have seen a ferret that morning and he was able to watch it for quite awhile. We razzed him about it for several days until one day a crusty old mountain man visited our camp and after talking for awhile said " I have been in these mountains my whole life and today I saw something that I have never seen before...... an ERMINE... they look just like a small ferret." Good chance that is what you also saw. The maps don't show them ranging this far out of Colorado but creatures do what creatures do.

359 6/8 broke, gross score.
-
He broke his G5 on the right side rolling down the mountain when he went down. We scored him broke. Weller's fixed it and it looks perfect. Weller's also fixed this mule deer buck for me. He's the biggest mule deer I ever killed with a bow and I probably would have just stacked him in the shed broke like he was so I chose to have him fixed. You would never know holding it.

I know what he scores. Guess him up. He's a lot heavier than the pictures reveal.

This lion killed a young heifer on my in laws ranch. My mother in law found the calf partly eaten and set up a couple cameras. 20 minutes after she left he came back. Several adult cows had been scratched up pretty bad possibly defending the calf.
-
Actually this is the first calf loss in many years. The kill was on private property that borders the Reservation. There is no compensation for any losses by predators other than Mexican wolves, and their shouldn't be. The government hunter for the area was contacted but the ranch is isolated and because of the hot dry weather I doubt if it would have been fruitful to try and run it. Between the coyotes and buzzards not much is left after a couple of days and the cat moves on. Looks like a pretty good sized lion to me though.

Look at the head on this one! I think there's an elk in the picture also.

A little off topic but I bought an 870 a while back and it failed to extract the empty shells enough to really piss me off. It's an 870.... an american icon and they would put this out on the market fully knowing the problems that are obviously apparent. Yeah, you can send it back and they will fix it but they keep producing the exact same shotgun with the known issues. Polish the chamber and replace the extractor and clean up the machining and your good to go. Its an 870 for christs sake.... should you have to? Buy a new Marlin lever gun from the "new" factory owned by .... you guessed it.... a complete pile.

All I know is every time I walk into Walmart or a convenience store I believe less and less in Darwanism.

Barnes Spit-Fire T-EZ muzzleloader bullets
singleshot replied to Mesabulls's topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
I tried them in front of 150 grains of Hodgdon pellets but could not get them to group as well as the 300 grain Precision Muzzle loading Bullets, with the same powder charge. The B.C. of the Precision bullets is dramatically better also. My son took a mature bull last year with the above load and he was on his feet maybe 3 seconds with a heart shot. No exit. -
How to dispatch trapped animal?
singleshot replied to Coues assassin's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Back in the day of leg holds I had a Sheridan 5mm pellet gun that I used to shoot coyotes and everything else with. I would shoot them through the lungs into the heart area. I would generally then leave them and pick them back up on my way out. A lot less blood than a head shot with a 22 or even with the pellet gun. It was a tiny hole that I never even bothered to sew up. -
Been looking for a Duramax but this truck has me second guessing. Awesome looking rig!

ideas on a rifle for my daughter

Forum member Jefcross is selling a nice .257 Roberts. Excellent deer and Javelina round. -
Looks like a rock squirrel. I lost quite a few baby chicks (chickens) to them before I figured out what was taking them. Watched one drag a small bull snake across a road one day. They can get really nasty. Cool pictures.

T.J. hit the nail on the head. I tore my left pectoral off last mid July and had to have it reattached with 4 screws to my left humerus. If I would have had an archery bull tag last year I probably would have eaten a bullet. Get healed, up the future years are more important than causing permanent damage for one hunt. Drew my bow back for the first time in over a year just the other day. Felt pretty good.

Family powerboat, lake ready with all the toys.

Bump for a really nice boat. I would also entertain trading this boat and cash for a fifth wheel. What do you guys have? -
1993 Celebrity Status Bowrider 21 foot by 8 foot beam 335 hours on the boat, brand new marine Mercruiser 350 Magnum, 350 cubic inch crate motor with 25 hours. Mercruiser Alpha 350 Lower unit was rebuilt when the motor was installed. European deep V with keel shield. Hydraulic leveling plates. Mechanically excellent, interior has a few minor tears. Tons of storage capacity, built in ice chest, ski storage. Comes with 12 life jackets, skis, wakeboard, knee board, towable tubes, ropes, traveling cover, extinguishers, extra prop. Trailer tires and spare are in excellent condition. Tows easily with a half ton pickup. Always stored in a garage or carport. This is a great family turnkey boat. The deep V handles big rough water and wind like a dream . The depth finder has an intermittent problem, the speedometer does not work and could use a good buffing wax job. Some of the taped pin striping on one side is scratched and also where it contacts the front trailer roller. Have receipts for the motor work performed two summers ago by Ken Simpson in Globe, Total right at $7000 Asking $9000.00 for everything. Located in Safford ]

Deepest sympathy Lark. I read your fathers obituary in the local paper and thought about your past posts and the times you had written stories about him. Great poem, very touching.

What bullet weight
singleshot replied to Couestracker's topic in Muzzleloader hunting for Coues Deer
I have an old CVA Firebolt Magnum and this is what has been the best ever. For everything. The guy who makes these bullets told me that a bullet has to be at least twice as long as it's diameter to be accurate. Makes good sense. A .177 pellet is much more accurate than a .177 BB. Why worry about overkill? People are shooting 100 pound coues deer with 338 Norma mags and such. Check out their website. 2013 on his feet for maybe 5 seconds.
