Any Ideas how a charge of $50.00 would come up? Four seperate apps. for elk and antelope. -
Big mule deer bucks are impressive. I sure miss the desert in the mid 80's when you could glass up five or six great bucks a day. I hope that those "were'nt the days ". Great find.

I was excited to get the outdoor channel a couple of years ago but soon found that the only show I liked was Primos and that guy who's show was called the " Do it yourself hunter ". He was pretty hardcore, no guides, all foot hunting, tent camps etc. Much like most of us. We turned off the satellite about 18 months ago because of all the other crap that is on TV. The kids were watching shows on MTV like Jacka... and all that other crap. I miss the news sometimes, National Geographic, and the weather channel. My father hated hunting video's from the time they first became popular, refused to watch them, or the outdoor channel. He stands firm in his own belief that " HUNTING IS NOT A SPECTATOR SPORT". Makes you think doesn't it.

Today at 10,700 feet in the Pinalenos the patches of ground outweighed the patches of snow. Less than six feet for the winter. Could have been worse but I sure miss the quail and the mule deer that the rain we had in the early 80's left us with.

Cool find! I think he must be in either 31 or 29. Both have goulds.

I never really cared for the guy. Big sponsorships and good outfitters don't make you an expert hunter, only famous. This is really a good article in proving that all firearm owners need to stick together. I don't personally care for the military style of firearms, but I do respect our right to own one. The NRA and Outdoor Life handled this one perfectly.

Said goodbye to a dear old friend yesterday.....

Very sorry Amanda. I have chocolate labs now, but none could ever bring back the memories of The rat terrier mutt I found floating in the canal as a child. He was the size of a tennis ball when I brought him home and my folks let me keep him. I carried him in my shirt when he got to tired to walk as a pup while I roamed the hills, and grew to do backflips whenever I opened the guncase. I would lock him in the house when I walked off to check my traplines and several hours later when he was let out he would track me down like a bloodhound. He was thirteen pounds of jack rabbit, cottontail, dove, quail, and duck retrieving machine ( as well as lizards, pack rats and anything else he could catch ). He was my constant companion, my friend. He stayed with my folks when I left on my own and my Dad taught him every trick imaginable. I came home early one December morning to meet my brother for a late whitetail hunt and my dad told me that he had been killed by another male dog while chasing "the scent on the breeze", I had to leave the room and walk out in the cold air for awhile. 22 years later it brings a lump to my throat to even write this. Time heals all things, In Fondest memory of "Starsky". -
I live in Safford.

Five male chocolate labs, born Christmas Day. Big, blocky, all paperwork current, pre-registered, Vet checked, first shots These pups are very nice and will be huge. The sire weighs 120 pounds and he's in great shape, no fat. His retrieval toy of choice is a four foot cedar fence post. Family raised, great disposition. I own the mother and grandmother. The four females went the first day at $600.00 each. Asking $400.00 for the males. If your looking for a lab that could retrieve a bass boat surprise momma at valentines with one of these guys. 928-428-9280 ( home ) 928-651-1881 (cell)

Found a yearling bull calf stuck in a fence in Unit 1 in 1991. It was still alive and CochranJ's older brother and I got him out of the fence and stood him up but he was to weak to run off. I don't think he had been in the fence very long. We brought him water and he ate some apples but was dead the next day. I have pictures but that was before the digital age and never got them scanned. Some day I'll post them. Usually it's not the injuries that kill them it's the stress. Three years later I killed a six point bull about two hundred yards from that spot out of a tree stand on that same fence. Finding that calf was sad but really opened my eyes to fences in elk country.

Whats In A Name
singleshot replied to GameHauler's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
The .270 WSM is the only short magnum out there that offers any real improvement. Never seen a deer that could tell the difference between 50 FPS. and 38foot pounds!! I shoot a seven mag. But read the ballistic charts, If I were to buy a short mag. it looks like the .270 WSM is the only one with benefit over the others. -
Another awesome hunting picture

I like the looks and balance of the Ruger #1 rifles. The earlier models all were stocked with fancy walnut which you don't see in non custom firearms anymore. Personally I also think that the H&R or New England firearms Handy Rifles are one of the safest, and best buys for the money on the market. You can get a rifle in just about any caliber and a nice scope for less than 4 bills. Back when we had lots of quail, early in the season I would only load one barrel in my side by side so that I would only have one shot and remember to aim. I relied on that second barrel so much I usually missed the first. Hence "Singleshot" -
First pig for son of bowsniper
singleshot replied to KidBowHunter's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Wow that's awesome. My son got buck fever so bad he couldn't draw his bow and he was sixteen! Keep it up and change your middle name to "Chuck" (as in Adams) -
Love that spread! I like the way his ears are layed flat against the antlers in the pic. Give's a great reference on what a wide buck really looks like in the field.
-
Deer are just tough to kill with a bow! Especially while your on on the ground. Good shooting, and congrats.

Hey Danny, It sure was exciting watching you and your daughter slide into that buck on Saturday. We thought we were going to get to watch her pile him. That wind was awful, swirling and cold. Congrats on a couple of nice deer!

European Mount

I have done quite a few euro's on both deer and elk and have learned a few things. I add a little liquid dish soap to the water it cuts through the grease and helps to lift off the meat and gristle. Do not bring your skulls to a rolling boil as this will eventually cause the growth plates in the skull to seperate. Keep your water at a simmer and slowly cook them. I wrap aluminum foil around the bases of the antlers. You can push the foil in tight around the burrs and this keeps the steam from whitening the natural antler color. Do not add any clorox, it whitens the bone and removes grease but leaves the bone chalky. If you have simmered the skull slowly the small pieces of the nasal cavity will usually stay in place and what I do is place the skull in a five gallon bucket and take it to the car wash and use the high pressure sprayer on it. You get a few strange looks but it works great to remove all the brain matter and small pieces of meat and tendon. The bucket catches any teeth, and bones that may fall off. Just be careful when spraying out the sinuses as this area is thin. I rarely have to reglue anything as the trick is to slowly simmer not boil. Once the skull is dry I again carefully wrap the bases with foil and spray paint the whole skull flat white. The paint seals the oil in and makes dust cleanup later easy. Some guys will mix elmers white glue with a little water and use it to paint the whole skull. This works well but I like the FLAT WHITE paint a lot better. This works best for me, hope it helps. -
My 2006 Archery Coues hunt

That was really cool, I felt like I was there. I hope you drain that big 3. -
Still holding two males. Everyone must be saving their coin for Christmas. I have sold sixteen of these pups for $500.00 each. Get a lot of calls but no one wants to drive to Safford. I don't want to give up the kids wrestling, basketball games to deliver. Would be willing to trade for decent shotgun or rifle. Great looking pups with all the bells and whistles.

I have two big beautiful AKC chocolate labs for sale. First shots, Vet checked, very big blocky healthy pups. Family raised. All papers and documentation. Seven Weeks. $350.00 or trade for? Send me a P.M. if interested. You will not be disappointed in these pups!!

Nice Coues buck

If there were no signs of blatant poaching I would probably wire his rack to a large rock or tree limb, mark it on my GPS and come back in a few months and retrieve it. Unusual find,. -
Guess the score?
singleshot replied to TREESTANDMAN's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
Those are some really long main beams, good G2's and great G3's plus he's got G4's. I say 112 gross. Lot of character. -
My wife Suzy killed this buck on the last day of the ten day hunt in unit 31. We had really struggled finding deer during the previous days hunting. We ended up hunting country with a mixture of mule deer and whitetail. She passed on five smaller bucks earlier in the day before I glassed up this guy bedded. He was laying in the open but in the shade at around 12:30. He was laying facing almost straight away downhill at 230 yards when she hit him in the right ham. She was shooting a 257 Roberts with 115 grain nosler ballistic tips in front of 48 grains of AA3100. I thought he turned inside out on impact and made it a grand total of five yards. I recovered the bullet under the skin behind the offside shoulder. I was pleased with the penetration and the nice mushroom of this bullet. I had read stories of lots of meat damage and this was true. The hip was completely shattered into dust but the bullet held together and continued on through the far shoulder. I won't hesitate to shoot them again. Gross score 97 5/8 net 94 3/8. Big bodied buck, very thick through the chest.
