That is a fact!!! Don't be Star Struck by the term "Guide" in Arizona, Matt.... It is just like my "Real" profession, construction.... Everyone is a Builder or Contractor.... Same with guiding... Guiding is great if you use it to feed your hunger, and help finance your habit.... but it is a meager living unless you do it big.... and plan on having no home life, to speak of....

Sounds like that RUM load you have there, Lark, is a good one! My 300 Wby with the 168 gr. Berger and 82 grains of IMR 7828 is right at 3250+ fps... Your boy's RUM sounds like a shooter!!! Gotta lova a gun like that!!! Best of luck on that Bull tag.... but we do expect a full report with pictures.... -

Have a great day, Phil!! -
I thing the best way to fix blisters is to prevent them... I always wear silk or poly liner socks and then a heavier sock over them... the liner sticks to you feet and gives a protection from blisters.... also keep feet clean and dry if possible, by changing socks at least once every day. Liner socks are very light and small, easy to pack... also easy to wash and dry in the field. Take good care of your feet when at home and things like toe nails won't sneak up on you while hunting.... Wear your hunting boots days at a time before ever going afield to see if they create foot issues. Super Glue is a must in any first aid pack IMO... might sting in a wound but it will seal it! Boots have got to be in good shape and proven before a hunt.... once your there you better have a second pair or you are screwed!! Once my feet are (or your feet) are done, the trip is a bust... and done! Just my $.02!

Cabelas tent cots
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to mattobertin's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
That is what I have been doing but you wake up covered in frost and then you have the bugs and slight chance for rain during the night so I am trying to get a happy medium with packing as little as possible and be comfortable as possible. Bugs?? You obviously have never been to Alaska hunting???? Arizona "bugs" will never bother you again after a trip or two up North! Seriously, I bought a canvas bedrole "tent" from (I think) Colorado Tent Co. and put my Butler Bag in it..... it added warmth, addtional moisture protection and duability.... I'll take it and a tarp any time or place! No I have never been to alaska thanks for reminding me jerk! LOL! As far as the bugs last weekend I got absolutely bombed by mosquitoes in 36B and the first archery hunt in 23 I got it even worse with a waistline full of chiggers! Those things really suck literally! I am thinking the tarp deal is probably the way to go also. I was looking closer at those cots and on the double one there is a support rod running right down the middle! No thanks! I would rather sleep on the ground than roll over on that thing all night! Thanks fot evryone's comments! Sorry, Man!!! Those "Big Cots" and ones like them are Great! The size of a chair for storage and set up fast.... with supports on the ends only... I reccomend an insulated pad though. -
Yup.... guess you role the dice everyday. What an unluck role! Sad....

Jared, I do remember that green "hat" from last year. Ahhh! Jared's Helmut!! That thing is very lucky, indeed!! He won't go to the woods without it!!! Congrats again, Jared... and you are very welcome!!! It was awesome to get to go hunting with you and your Dad!! That junior's hunt will probably be my favorite hunt of the year!!! Hunting with Family & Friends, and seeing the smiles on the faces of you Boys was the Best!!

What is the BC on the .30 cal. Scirocco's?? The 168 VLD is 511, if I'm not mistaken..... I have heard good things about the Scirocco's, but after seeing the performance on the Bergers, I have a lot of confidence in this VLD bullet... it is a Show Stopper!!! We have taken 6 animals with this bullet since Dec. 07 and I can tell you that you will have to shoot Really bad to lose a critter with this bullet! All with very similar performance. -

I'd vote against spending the $$$ as well. I often throw my Butler bag in the bed of my truck and through a tarp over or if weather looks bad, a Cot on the ground next to the truck and a $10 tarp makes great make shift tent! IMO.... I have also wraped my bedrole in a tarp and layed out on the ground as well.... I perfer mobile and versitile on those scouting trips. Best of luck! -

Congats, Clay!!!! Congrats to your Wife as well! -
Congrats, Jared!!!! You are one heck of good shot... you did a great job!! I have to say I know that Jared was very sure of his shot placement on the quartering-to buck... He called double lung... it was that, and then some! He put the bullet right where I asked him to aim at 450 yards!! He was less rattled than Mike or myself!!! A real Cool Cat.... that Jared!! Here is the entrance of the 168 Berger VLD ( a paper punching bullet)!
