Well, I decided to get out of the house while my Wife and Grandmother went shopping this morning..... I decided to hike into a water hole in a piece of country that Huntn' coues and I have been kickin' around in for years.... I have sent archery elk hunters and turkey hunters into the area for years.... but, never mentioned that little puddle of a pond. HC had a close incounter with a bear there this spring while turkey hunting.... ( You knew I was gunna bring that up, Troy!!!) Anyhow, I kick a few elk off of the water as I walk up and and my dog runs down and jumps in the water as I spy a new looking salt block.... ...as I look around for a camera or a tree stand..... Nada, then I see this.... So I walk closer..... too see what the sign reads....... Then I begin to laugh.... Unbelievable!!!! I'm trespassing!!! Anyhow, if this is your "set-up" I'd like you to contact me.... I don't want any problems when you find my camera on Your Water Hole.... If you had left your name and number I would have simply called you..... but, I doubt that you really plan to hunt the "whole hunt" and it is a rather broad statement.... I'd hate to walk my wife in there just to have you walking in, too. I, afterall, have many other places to hunt. I just liked this spot for the same obvious reasons you do....

Well she sat in the blind for 8 hours today and got skunked.... but we did get a late start.... We are going to sit her back on the water hole she sat opening day in the morning and back after this forky on Thursday if we don't score tomorrow. Hope to be posting pics of a first archery coues by this time tomorrow!!!! Here are a few pics from today's hunt... -
Well my wife had that ruff day on the opener of archery deer with two really close calls on 90"+ bucks. She has been shooting a bunch and preparing to get out and hunt again, but each time we plan to hunt it has rained like heck! So she has been patient and just kept on practicing. She has her confidence back and her drawing strength is definatly improving. Anyhow, one day last week, she and I ran out just before dark one evening after work to put out a camera in a new location. I have not hunted this little bench in quite a few years, but know all to well that there are good genetics. Five days later I check it and it has a buck and a doe crossing there once or sometimes twice a day! Sweet! My wife is stoked and this is a perfect first deer! So today, I am going to get her set-up in a ground blind about 20 yds from the travel corredor and she is going to spend her first afternoon archery hunt alone in the ground blind. I am prayin' that she will connect!

WIFE DREW A UNIT 9 BULL TAG !!!!
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to dertrax's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Great advice, Manny. Also another vote for the thunderheads here! My wife is shooting them right now and they fly the same as her field pionts and they have like an 1/8" larger cutting diameter than any other 85 gr. head i have looked at... my thought is bigger hole... more blood to follow. The thunderheads are tough... in a pinch you can pick them up after a miss and reuse it. the other day i was meesing with my wife while was shooting and made here miss the broadhead target.... ... The arrow hit the metal stand and punched a small hole (1/4 inch) in the 3/32 thick metal before bounceing back... I picked up the arrow and filed a small burr off the tip with my leatherman file and it spin checked just fine! Good and tough heads! -
Why are you skeptical? Not trying to start poop but there are alot of unethical (ignorant) hunters out there these days that can't read a map or posted "NO HUNTING" signs. It does'nt shock me one bit. Im from the show me state! U show me and ill believe it! Which state is that?????

Well... I officially call my self a Moron today.... just today.... I went out to pull this camera and I aparently did not snap the lock all the way shut when I left!!!! So my lock was laying on the ground.... cable hanging uselessly to one side..... and a Blank SD card inside!!!! I am really wondering what was on that card!!!! I pulled my camera anyhow.....

Dang, Lark!!! You took the words right out of my mouth!!! Well said in all respects! -
Casey, at this point you sound like you're arguing just for the sake of arguing? The Huskema scopes have cllicks in 1/3 MOA. I'm really not sure what you mean by "clicks in 25 yard increments"? I've never heard of a scope where a click equals 25 yards? What would you do for different ranges? Perhaps you are referring to the hash marks that indicate the different yardages? The number of clicks will vary between hash marks, it just depends on how far you are shooting. No body is slamming your system! This conversation is starting to remind me of the Berger Bullet discussion where you told us over and over again how bad of a hunting bullet they are and now as of a few days ago you tell us you are going to give them a try. It's OK if you like your system better then ours! Neither of us are after your approval, we are just shooting what works well for us. Amen!!!

Ron and Marianne Buehring are the only ones I use! (928)474-5544 I have been using them for many years and they Great people, but better call ahead.... they are usually very busy. Good luck on that hunt! -
NO SCOPE!!!!!! Real men don't use lever actions w/ scopes!!!! Ask the Rifle Man or the Duke!!!
-
No, I think he was saying that if your distance wasn't exactly on one of your crosshairs then you're still just guessing. Amen, Brutha! I do know how to "gap shoot" with a bow... I happen to do it on occasion..... I am NOT saying your method is not good.... I am just stating the fact that there is one less step for us..... just as Tim mentioned! Relax.... I don't think you are any different, any less, or whatever..... ..... Just pointing out why I like the system that I use. It makes me just a bit more confident than using a chart and/ or a gap..... I am not as tallented as some, so "simpler".... is better for me.... and Tim.... obviously! No worries... I will keep using this system until something better comes along....... and then I will jump ship and use thier product. I am not "shilling away" for Huskemaw.... just pointing out why it works for those of us who have tried it!!!

I think I am really Liking this Lady for the VP.... I have my issues with some of Macain's politics and she has all those issues covered. We need a grass roots American in the Whitehouse.... Be a great change! We had better hope that the rest of America sees whot we see..... I know we can't and our country can't handle 4-8 years of Obamma! -
Right on Dude!!! Congrats!!!

When I'm feeling like getting close I just pick up my bow. Hunting with a rifle isnt' about getting close. so what is hunting with a rifle about? seeing how far away you can get before you make a reckless or wounding shot? Lets not ASSume.... that you have to be at a range of 400-600 yards to make a reckless or wounding shot.... There are people... and we all know them.... that should not even carry a firearm or bow in the woods, much less shoot one at something at any distance over two paces!!! The difference here is not about the distance, it is about guys putting in the time to be proficient at 20yds.... or at 520 yds.... they all take practice.... lots of practice. Making educated and pracitced shots in the field creates success..... and increased odds. The debate here is between how to go about executing that perfect shot at 100 or 1000 yds..... with swift and correct mathematics. In Casey's set-up he has time to calm himself and determine a "firing solution".... in the case of Tim and myself, we simply dial the yardage that is laser etched into our turret and focus on the shot.... our only thought is...."hold..... squeeeeeze...."! No math, no guess, no hold-over, no chart...... just the shot. I love this system and would have it on any gun that I plan to hunt big game with..... whether I use it, or not. It is nice to know that if I Finally find that trophy of a lifetime in a place where closing the distance is not an option..... that I can with confidence and speed make an ethical and clean harvest. And I say Finally because ALL of my largest and best big game trophies have been harvested with a bow between 12 and 45 yards. I too, can get close, if I choose.... just depends on what, where, and how I am hunting.

John, I am thinking that sending a gun off just to have that work done is a bit excessive in the first place.... However, I can tell you that after I mounted my scope, developed a load and bullet that I was happy with, did the Data shooting & sent that off, got the Turret back, zeroed my rifle back at 200 with the new turret and field tested the turret... I had Three months wrapped up in all the cuz I had other stuff to do in life as well..... ..... I know how frustrating it can be when you are waiting for something to arrive in the mail.... I am sure your buddy needed that gun and it was durring thier busy season, too.... Yada, Yada,Yada..... and he was frickin' Pissed....like we all would be...... That does not change the fact that he can order a new turret any time with any type of ammo he wishes.... and all he has to do is send them the data! As far as reloading.... IMO.... If you plan to shoot longrange while in a hunting situation, then you better have custom ammo from somewhere. Sorry, your buddy had a bad go of it with Gun Werks.... I have a lot of faith in the scope though!

I am a Swaro fan Thru & Thru..... ... My other 300 Wby has a Swaro on it and it is a sub-450 yd. rifle... IMO. Each gun is different and delivers the same loads to a different PIO. My biggest problem with the TDS and programs they use is as Tim said.... That is just math... not real shooting data from your gun. Also, lefty, you mentioned that your last line is 785 yds....... how do hold over/under, if the buck/bull is say 705 or maybe 825??? You are right back to guessing. Now I know that there are many Way better hunters and shooters than me in this world, but you better be shooting the barrel out of your gun once a year if you plan to be that good at hold-overs. That is why the Huskemaw system is so comprehensive! I did all my test shooting in the early morning or late afternoon at a elevation that I considered to be average to where I normally hunt. Now I can dial a distance in and hand that gun to my wife, sister-in-law, buddy, any one of the kids and confidently tell them to hold dead on at ANY distance..... that is piece of mind....IMO. Both of Troy's girls had never shot my gun before they dumped thier bulls with one shot at 385 and 450 yards. Both girls hit the same elevation in the cavity.... and I made believers out of both of them.... and thier Daddy!! There are many good shooting systems out there, but this one works well for me and everyone that Iknow who has tried it. It is good quality, and cost effective, and very simple to use. Buy it I did!!!
