BACKPACKING BOOTS OPINIONS NEEDED
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to crazy4COUES's topic in Other Hunting Gear
Wow! AG, thanks for the info..... never thought about some of that stuff. The best pair of boots that I have found in the last couple of years is from Irshsetter and I think the name was the Deer Tracker and it was a 200 gram boot. It is the only boot that I have owned in years that has good support, good & soft tread that grips the rocks but doesn't just wear off.... and didn't blow out under extreme conditions of hunting and packing. However..... Lathrop, Meindl, and Lowa all have some Great hunting/backpacking boots if you don't mind spending more $$$. Let us know what you find. CnS -
I'm guessing March25th....

QUOTE (Vinnie B @ Mar 7 2008, 05:04 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}> He already has one like it, but you are right he would like to have it also. The best thing about him growing up is he can make money now and buy some of his own toys. They learn quick how hard it is to make a buck when they have to do it. After saving all winter he is now trying to decide new bow or new rods and reels since fishing is going to be great this year. Remember those tough decisions Yeah... I didn't let mine learn that early enough and he is just now starting get the big picture......

Kevin, I have had problems getting readings over 600-700 yds with mine.... I like the range finder but not always the performance.... Did your buddys send theirs back or just keep them?? I have had the Optilogic range finder for bow hunting for several years..... it is a bit bulky but very precise on those hard steep shots. I like it. CnS

Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Huntn coues's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
BahHaHaHaHaHaHa.... Yep... and the next one will be White!!! LMAO!!!! I'd have waved if I had known it was you.... But my luck it would have been someone's wife visiting from out of town and thought I was being , too friendly!! And your dang windows are so frickin' dark!!! I'm sure I'll reconizize that Grey truck next time I see it!! Your luck you would've waived and my wife would have turned her nose up at you or given you the finger... for making an advance at her....Man, I wish you would have waived, just to see your face after she gave you the finger! and its GRAY not GREY, unless you live in London. "Grey became the established British spelling in the 20th century, pace Dr. Johnson and others, and is but a minor variant in American English, according to dictionaries. Canadians tend to prefer grey. Non-cognate greyhound is never grayhound." He's gotcha there Gino.......GRAY is the American Way. Hey! I like GREY, better and it is in my New American Webster as an acceptable varriation!! -
FEB 12 Application deadline for elk and antelope tags
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I got a phone call last night stating that along with all the Cabela's tags that did miss the deadline that the elk applicant numbers were WAY down this year!!! If it is true... Whooooo Hoooooo!!!! Please God, Bless me with my 1st or 2nd choice!!!! -
Jeremy you are a Krazy SOB!! Canoes????? Make sure to portage the falls.... We did that float one time with my Bro-in-law, who is a very experienced river rafter and it was a fun, but cold day trip. I was plumb froze by the time we got to the Hot Springs.... I wanted in that warm water so bad that I didn't even give a rip about all the nasty naked Hippies everywhere! Things that make you Baaaahhhh! Anyhow, we shot the falls in my Bro-in-law's raft and it was the funnest part of the day! Some of our group did not try it, they got out and walked/ lead thier raft, and I thought one raft flipped that day, but I'm not sure if it was from our group or some other group... it was several years ago. If you guys have never done that sort of thing on that river you may want to guinea pig yourselves and not take your kids the first time.... I'd be spooked to run a canoe on that stetch anyhow..... but that is just me.... G

Long range rifles?
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to mattobertin's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
If you find the right gunsmith it is much cheaper and just as effective to work on your stock trigger.... atleast it was on my Weatherby. I like it better than my buddy's Timney Trigger.... I have had that trigger "lightened-up" twice now and only have about half the cost of a Timney invested. Just my $.02! CnS -

I know many of you are not "record book" or "numbers" fans.... .... But I pose this question..... Have any of you ever thought that SCI "Master" measurers were a JOKE??? I have always been around B&C or P&Y Measurers.... and have learned a lot from them about how to score... and learn a bit more every year. Today SCI had a booth at Cabela's. We drove over to have my buddy's Coues buck "Officially" scored and it was my first time seeing how the SCI fellers do thier thing. They were all very nice guys and the people from Cabela's were awesome, too. They posed and snapped Photos of the horns and my Buddy. But, the scoring part was a JOKE.....IMO. There were 4 guys, 2 very profesional looking SCI guys and 2 Cabela's employees. First, the Cabela's guys grab the horns and go to "work"... and one of the SCI guys gives them a couple of "pointers" on how they should score the questionable spots of this Non-typical. As they are scoring I notice that they ignore the advice of the other guy and do the opposite..... stripping the buck of about 1/2"-3/4" of horn based on the SCI no deduct method. Then when they tell us the total score (and it was BIG)... I thought, Hmmmm, that thing Shrunk a bunch! I happened to pick up the horns and saw where many of their pencil marks were at the "base" of the points and questioned their straight line. They told me that the marks are "subjective" and that since they always "round up" the sixteenth's that, it really evens out in the end. I was Blown away!!! I thought these were "worldly" and "kind of on a pedistal" because that is what SCI advertises. This buck is a top 20 SCI all time N/T entry and a new #1 SCI N/T archery coues and they tell me that it evens out their mistakes!!! Anyhow I am posting a couple of quick snap shots that show what I see as some of the Eighths & Quarters that are missing from his final score. In a saving grace SCI allows you to have a Re-score and he plans to do so. I'd love to hear if you guys think I'm wrong, but I think that this buck was robbed of an inch and probably more on the "official" score and on a Coues deer an inch is a Bunch..... I have nothing to gain by venting about this or questioning their score, but it did dissapoint me and kind make me mad for my buddy's sake. Thanks, CnS

FALL 2007-JAN 2008 COUES BUCK CONTEST
Coues 'n' Sheep replied to Red Rabbit's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Burn him at the stake!!!! Casey you do make a valent point, but an unreasonable one. Because if You, GH, TJ, and extreme coues were sitting around a campfire with ten other members it would be safe to asume that the other members would be content to sitback, drink a toddy and watch the fireworks/listen to the bable..... .... no one would get a word in edgewise! And besides, family members are eligable for prizes as well as any member, the contest is designed to include more members, not exclude them..... There are now over 2400 members to this site.... how fun to be competing on a playing field that Big!!! Sorry guys... I just had to through someone under the bus with Casey..... and you all were the first to come to mind!!!! Dirk D.
