    Opening weekend-Stories

My opening weekend was spent on pins and needles, waiting for Huntn' coues and Mrs HC to make a BBD call.... and that never happened .... But I got out and did a little glassing on Saturday morning and found a Bruiser Buck right in the same saddle that I saw one last year!! I can't wait till October!!! Good Luck Allen... sounds like it is just a matter of time for you two.....

    She's a Shooter.... again.

For my drop data I was shooting from a table.... once I get the new turret and have it all tuned up..... Then I will move back to shooting off the sticks. That will be the real, tell.... to see if I can shoot the gun as good as it should be shot..... I thinkt hat my technique is getting better, so hopefully I can keep them tight.
  3. Well, when you put it like that.... ... I'd say that all or most of us would agree that is how we should look at most of the issues of today, no just this one.

    Choice Of Words

elmer: I think if you re-read my post it explains the difference between what I eat and don't. I was not going to re post on this thread again because, I liked the concept that everyone should just put in their $.02..... but since you asked.... .......The Dictionary that is inside my head does define the words Kill, Harvest, Killing, or Harvesting as they are used in my post, I don't use them to appease the Anti's. I am younger than most of you and I happen to represent the Next Generation (Generation X)..... I have a fire that burns within me that is as hot and red as the one that burns within you (and maybe hotter). I, however, try to choose my battles... because I pray that we/I might have a chance to win the war. Those words, obviously, mean something to me that they don't to others.... and I'm okay with that. I do, however, hope that those who hear me say it, friend or foe, know that I say them with conviction and honor. Oh, and BTW..... I ain't no stinkin' Liberal neither! CnS

    Favorite Coues Taxidermist?

Here are the pics of my Desert ram **. Harlow's Wildlife Studio is the only shop that I would take my stuff to in southern AZ, the detail he puts into all his mounts amazes me. Also, because of how much time he spends in the field looking at live sheep and ground checking Monster rams with clients.... it kind of makes him hard to beat on any sheep mount or custom sheep mount! ** and a bonus side look of my Dall ram. Sorry, for the long downloads... ... after seeing RR's close-ups I thought I should show off the these rams a bit better than I did my deer pics....

    Favorite Coues Taxidermist?

Several other people have mentioned my buddy, Chris Harlow, of Harlow's Wildlife Studio. And I mentioned that he had done my sheep mounts for me, but had not posted any pics on this thread of them. When Amanda stopped by my house she was very impressed with my how my Dall mount was done and it prompted me to post again.

    Antlers in Velvet

I am not a biologist JC, but I would say that it is related to the growth. Josh's buddy just shot his first coues (posted by Grong) and you can tell that buck had a bit of growing left to do, IMO. Yet other bucks already appear to be close to done with major growth. I glassed a big coues buck this morning and he not "balled" up at the ends and judging by the length of his points and beams , I am sure he is pretty close to done growing.... Again just my opinion.

    Whooooo Hoooooo!!!!!!

Just got a Text message from Mr. and Mrs. HC..... One deer all day, so far... it passed about 60 yds from them. And a hunter just walked in on them (2:45pm )... some people. The good news is that we have morning and evening buck pics.... I hope they sit tight.... for atleast a couple more hours......

anyone got their money back yet?

I know, that I sure would like the $795.00 (three sheep tags) they owe me!!! Kinda crappy how long they milk the interest on our money.... The least they could do is give me a sheep tag next year for me being sooo very patient....

  24. Not much different than sitting on a hill watching two bucks or two bulls go at it, or two rams knocking heads on a mountain top.... I don't know if that gets your heart pumpin', but it sure does mine!!!

    Choice Of Words

Wow..... I must say I never thought that I would see such opposite opinions on this thread.... Mr. Q and Tony..... You guys are on the forefront of the written hunting world and I never thought about these things the way that you do..... and it has a ring of solid truth. I think I speak for many of us, when I say, that both your words and opinions are always respected and well thought of. In this case, I honestly do not agree. I do, however, see the wisdom in what you are pointing at and drawing from. But..... I believe the softer people of todays world require softer wording. I do not think it Cowardly to harvest a deer... which is what I do.... I kill coyotes and prairie dogs..... I harvest the animals that I eat.... and I did (when it was legal), harvest fur bareing animals. You see, they are a renewable resource, and sustenance in my life... just like corn, apples, and wheat. I consider the killing part of hunting the ends to a means and a very small part of the process, not unlike that of a farmer butchering a chicken for dinner. I go afield today more for the hunt itself than the harvest, or kill.... to me killing is random, to harvest means that I chose that one animal and removed it from the field, very similar to how you would pick (harvest) an apple off a tree full of apples. It is a term that has completely different meaning in my life... and is a good, wholesome term that correctly depicts who I am as a hunter. As a management tool, hunters are harvesting a crop of animals that would otherwise in short order, over populate its shrinking habitat..... and without the hunter generated proceeds of that crop, there would be little or no management at all. I thank everyone who has posted on this thread. It is all a very good read and all well said.
