    Archery Hunting in Arizona

LOL!!! I like that.... and I might even resemble that remark!!! Always chasin' rainbows! I think we all do that, a little.... or a lot. But, I can tell you this..... the best way to keep me out of a spot I've never been is to tell me that you are hunting there. To me it is like casting across the guy next to you who is catching a bunch of fish.... My dad had term for that, and it is not acceptable to say in public.... so I won't repeat it. I mean what pride is there in Piracy..... I have to drive my 4-wheeler farther or get my Wife out of bed 2+ hours before daylight to drop me at a trail when I hunt with a bow now days.... That is a pain. That is why I am interested in trying new things where fewer people know what I drive.....

My buck won a biannual Pope & Young Award

Hey Mark, Did you get a call form the Pope & Young Club today about your Buck??? Pope & Young must not be getting very good responce from Western Hunters....... I received a call from P & Y today, kinda shocked me. They wanted to see if I was going to send my Coues Deer buck back there..... and he sounded pretty dissapointed when I said "No". I told him that if they would have their Convention a little closer it to the West it would be something that I would do. I told the guy that PA is just too far away for me.

    chaning your application

1st and 2nd choice cow hunters? I agree...... only the cow hunts with 100% draw success might get you drawn on a 3rd choice...... I almost never put in more than 2 or 3 choices.... why waste the time. There are a lot of meat hunters out there that just want to harvest an elk every year..... I LOVE those who apply for cow tags 1st & 2nd choice....... that means a slightly better chance on a bull tag for ME!!! I'm dreamin' now.....

    Archery Hunting in Arizona

Thanks, Tony.... I will look for the packed down trails with with only small foot prints... that would be a good place too start!! Ya know........ I do try to find the good in every situation.... and I think I found the silver lining in this one!!! If I "steal" my son's copy of that book I might then no where Not to look!!!! PS: Tony you do know, that if you make that 50,000 copies mark I would be very happy to receive a kick back for all the ad work I've done for you. Anyhow, I did mean for this to be a serious and engaging thread..... I do think that it is very interesting how each of us broach a new area or unit...... and I do always have a desire to try new places and new styles of hunting....... May the thread go on!!!!

    Humberto Fontova 2005

Mike, I've said that for years!!!! But, you sure don't hear a peep about THAT in the main stream news media!! The sorry SOB's would cut off their noses to spite their faces!!!! And most are educated FAR beyond their intelligence. I'm just soooo gut full of their crap and lies. That guy sure put it very well..... too bad it will never make Prime Time TV. G

I agree with all of you..... and for the most part we all have our "compfort zone" areas we hunt. This is more like a "wild hair"..... to pick up roots and try something new.... maybe for just one week.... maybe more..... of course how far does a guy want to travel to a new spot is always a factor too..... I just think that it would be a fun challenge.

    July too Late?

Only for the high trafic spots..... We find hard whites every year when we are out hunting. We packed out these two hard whites in Dec. on my wifes bull hunt. Last spring 4 of us went in to that same area...... I packed out 6 brownies, two of the others each found a brown, and one packed out 2 hard whites..... but we missed these 2 and several other chaulk whites that we hung in the trees. Worth a try..... good for your health too.

    Docter Binocular help

I looked through a pair of those on a sheep hunt in Utah a couple of years back. They are Awesome! Way to big to pack very far from the truck or quad...... but in Utah they are great cuz all the "locals" have made roads to the top of every hill already..lol. Those binos are on my wish list for sure..... it would be great for all your pre-scouting!

Go with Swaro's....... you will be a lot happier. I know a lot of guys that have given up their Doctors and bought Swaro's wishing they had done that in the first place. Just my 2 cents worth.......

The Journey Into Mexico! (start to finish)

Congrats, Jim to you and your Dad. That is quite the pair! Double Pedestal Mount, maybe??? You guys have a great story to go with them! Best father and son hunt I have heard of in a while! 'Goose' sure is a Great guy to hunt with.... and you guys took some Great bucks!!!! I agree with you on how you scored your buck, but had a question on your Dad's..... I was told that if a split point appeared to share a common base that you bisect that base and take both measurements off of the beam. I can't tell from the picture, but doesn't your Dad's buck kind look like a common base? Not that it matters... ... He is aToad!!! No matter what! I too have a ton of questions on how to score Non-typ........ Congrats, Again!!!!!!!

    Family Strengths

This has been a really fun thread to read..... I never really looked at these threads before this week and am glad that I found them! To all the guys at Phelps Dodge: Do any of you know Mike Goodwin? He works over there and is a hunter. Anyhow, if you do tell him Gino said, "Hello." and tell he needs to get on this forum! ...... I don't see him much these days since PD gave up the Blue Ridge Lake stuff. Well I am an AZ baby, too. Born in Phx. and raised in the Rim Country. I own and opperate a residential construction company. We specialize in Custom Homes, Remodling, Additions/Garages, Decks.......Blah...Blah....Blah..... you get the picture. We do work in the following areas: Starlight Pines, Payson, Pine, Strawberry, Kohls Ranch, Christopher Creek, Young, and every thing in between. www.andson-construction.com If you own properties in those areas give us a shout.... I love to work for hunters. As for my "hobby business": (I guess making a couple extra $ while having fun is called "business"..... although my accountant calls it a tax right-off) lol! I have guided sheep hunts for Double H Outfitters in AZ and Utah. I am now a team leader for Mullins guide service, specializing in trophy Elk & Coues.

    Whats In A Name

Guess I have a dirty mind...... maybe it is because you're a dirty Pre-vert..... but before I read this I figured "GRONG" had to be something totally warped... ... Glad u cleared that up for me Josh! LOL! Hey Falls!! Your handle cracks me up!! All those years ago when our Dads' worked together your Dad had a nickname just like that and everyone knows him by it!! That is cool how history repeats its self!!! LOL! This has been a really fun thread to read.... Thanks for starting it Mike. Guess I'll put in my explanation...... I love hunting. It is a way of life to me.... I live and work to so that I can hunt..... Coues Deer hunting and Sheep hunting are a disease. Once you catch the "bug" you are a lost in them..... forever! All the other animals that we hunt are great too, but more like a Passion....... Coues 'n' Sheep are my Obsessions!!
