First trail cam set-up

Recommended Posts

here is one of my favorite elk pictures Checking my camera today maybe I will get something better

That's an awesome lookin bull, Fred. I've got a cam out in 27 that's been there for about 5 weeks now. I'm sure the battery has to have konked out by now, but every weekend when I try to go check it something comes up! First work & then the weekend before last I caught that stupid cold that's going around & it had me laid up for almost a week! I'm going to check it this weekend for sure though, so hopefully I'll have some good elk or muley pics to post on monday.

YES!!!! I have slobers and teeth marks all over my cameras from elk <_< You can watch the progress of the mallings through the photoes. Glad I'm not the only one who has this problem. Kind of a cool problem to have ;) I love the way elk taste and they love the way I taste :P

Hey with all those trees near by you could raise your camera up a bit and aim it down. You might get a new perspective on these guys. Just an idea.

Finally got back to 27 to check my camera. Apparently someone needed it worse than me, because it was gone. The area it had been in that was a nice logged down, grassy hill side back in the beginning of May is now completely covered w/ 4 foot high ferns. I was leary of placing one so close to the road, but the trail I stuck it on was just hammered w/ elk tracks so I decided to risk it. Should have listened to my gut & put it some where else. Lesson learned. :(

Man that SUCKS!! You guys are starting to worry me... everyone's camera's are getting ripped off.... and I leave mine out for weeks at a time. But, mine are a bit of work to get too..... I think. It is almost like people are looking for cams to steal. Sorry about your camera Matty. :(

I'm sorry Matty, that realy sucks! I put one out near a trick tank just before the weekend and after I was gone I thought "man that was stupid" <_< It is about 200 yards off the road and the camera is really camoed good but still it was a busey weekend. :(

Maybe if we covered them with something nasty like roofing tar or something that made you have to handle them with rubber gloves and a plastic bag? Then maybe the theives and the elk would leave them alone! <_<

Matty sorry to here about your camera. I had one stolen in january in 36-c on my families property. I was so mad I put up "No Tresspassing" signs in both spanish and english, and the next week when game warden came by I had some guys that may or may not have taken it escorted out of the area and not allowed back unless they have express written permission from one of the area landowners. Dave I tried a higher angle once and this is what happened

post-1234-1183468562_thumb.jpg this was the end of a sequence of elk kicking the crap out of my camera. I had placed it 7 ft up in a tree.

I know the trail cams are weather proof, but I hope they have some fire-retardant built in too.

Saw smoke to the south when I pulled out onto hwy 191 Saturday afternoon & there was a DPS guy blocking the road. There was also about 2 dozen forest service trucks & firefighters staged at different pull-offs along the highway as I drove back into Alpine & then today I read on Azcentral.com that there's a 1000+ acre fire just south of the rim! That's right across the canyon from my cameras! :o

Looks like I may have had one stolen and given two others away to the fire god all in one weekend. Now that's typical of my luck. Sounds like they're reasonably confident that they'll hold it from cresting the rim & I sure hope they're right.

checked my trail cam again today; now I am begining to wish I had an elk tag. I got a few good pics before the elk kicked the crap out of it again. I also saw a mt lion on my way out there and was searching for my release to my bow when I remebered the season was changed. Game and fish must have sent a memo to that lion.post-1234-1183874820_thumb.jpg
