Martin Guerena 2003
Dec. 16, 2003
Unit 24A, Arizona
Martin has been drawn 3 years in a row for this coveted 24A tag. And this is the 3rd exceptional deer he has killed in this unit. This buck has excellent mass and eyeguards. It’s only a 2 point (plus eyeguards), but it is an outstanding 2 point! I scored it last night and it nets 87 4/8. The eyeguards are 5 inches long. The G-2s are 5 4/8 R, 6 0/8 L. Main beams are 15 2/8 R, 15 4/8 L. Inside spread is 13 6/8. 1st circumference measurement is 3 6/8 on both sides.
Martin got his buck in some very brushy country. He took about a 225 yard shot to kill him while he was bedded. One shot, through the heart. Martin spent a lot of time thinking about whether to take him, since he doesn’t score real high, but he couldn’t resist the eyeguards and the mass! If you look at the bases of his antlers you can see plant material still stuck on them. He must have been fighting some trees in preparation for the rut.
This buck had lots of fat on him and when they tried to weigh him (dressed), he weighed more than the 100 lb scale could hold. They estimate that his dressed weight was 110 lbs.
