Did they end up using the artwork by Bill Quimby? They asked me for permission but then didn't follow up when I told them Bill said yes.

2012 Arizona Desert Bear

Gorgeous coat on that bear, congratulations! -
As I understand it, the InReach is pretty new and this might be a better option...I didn't realize the inreach allowed you to receive msgs, that would be a big plus. It also says it allows confirmation that messages are sent, that's something that SPOT doesn't do and can be annoying.

I don't know about that...it's not my understanding, but maybe you are correct? You might give SPOT a call and see what they say.

Please help me welcome our newest sponsor Gila Outdoor! Gila Outdoor in Thatcher, AZ is a 20,000 square foot retail store specializing in archery equipment and other outdoor related gear (optics, backpacks, camo, etc). This store used to be owned by Marcy and Ralph Harris, but they recently sold it and the new owners are throwing a BIG party for the grand re-opening. You won't believe what they have done to the store!! And you definitely want to be there on July 23rd for the party! They will have free pizza and anyone wearing a CouesWhitetail.com hat, tshirt, or sporting a CouesWhitetail.com sticker on their truck will get a FREE TECHNO HUNT at the archery range. The techno hunt is an awesome experience where you get to shoot at real footage of animals such as deer, elk and even Africa animals and the system tracks your arrow shot, fps and score so you can shoot against your friends. You shoot at a big screen with your own bow and arrows with special tips provided by Gila Outdoor. They have expanded the store to include the space next door and have put in tons of mounts of GIANT animals. It is an amazing collection. Most of antlers are replicas, but they look amazing and you will love looking at them. The 500 inch Spider Bull is there, the world record antelope also, 22 mule deer that score over 220 inches, 5 Coues over 100 right now and hopefully a 136 buck soon. Doyle Moss will be here if they kill on the gov tag in Utah. All kinds of brand representatives will be there. Vortex, Kowa, Hoyt, and a bass master Classic pro will be there. Gila Outdoor is committed to carrying a larger inventory of gear so that you can find what you need there. You come in and compare bows firsthand and see which one shoots best for you. Store manager and CouesWhitetail.com member Will Shill be there to help you all with your outdoor gear needs. They carry pretty much all brands of bows and they carry guns as well. As store manager Will said, "The store is committed to helping all hunters in any way we can, we are going to treat every bow and gun sale and setup as if it were our own." You guys need to see this place!! The grand re-opening will be held July 23rd from 9 am to 7 pm. And as I mentioned before, anyone who shows up wearing a CouesWhitetail.com hat, tshirt, sticker on their truck, or anyone purchasing any items from CouesWhitetail.com at Gila Outdoor that day will win a FREE techno hunt. So, I will be there and if you can make it, come on by and say Hello. Bring your bow so you can shoot the techno hunt...you will love it! Gila Outdoor 3660 W Main Street Thatcher, AZ 85552 Amanda

CouesWhitetail replied to Jay Scott's topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
Bummer to have to hike in sheep country on a bad ankle. I am having an ankle problem now and have a hunt starting this weekend! Luckily for me, it only seems to hurt when I don't have my hunting boots on....how's that for weird and lucky! -
Congratulations!

+1! Glad you got a nice bull!! Maybe you can bring some elk meat to the women's javelina hunt for our game dinner...

here is info on their service plans....basically you buy the unit and then pay an annual $100 for service. With the SPOT connect you can buy extra text messages (like in a bundle of a 100 or so if I remember right). the rescue insurance plan through GEOS is only 12.95 a year, well worth it to me. http://www.findmespo...dex.php?cid=104 Spot units will work anywhere in the world, so if you are going to Mexico on a hunt, you can send "I'm OK" messages back to your spouse at home. You can even pay extra and have it map out your location every 5 mins or so and your friends/family can watch your progress. I have never used that feature as it's an extra $50 a year. For safety, all you really need is the cheapest SPOT unit (about $120) and the $100 service fee, then the optional 12.95 a year for rescue insurance. So the first year you have about $250 into it because you have to buy the unit, but the next year, it's just the service plan so and insurance so it's like $113 a year. That's not much of an investment to have so that you can summon rescue services with the touch of a button.

You don't need cell service to use spot connect with your cell phone. The spot unit turns your cell phone into a satellite messenger. You can't get two way communication, but you can send messages to people you have designated through their website and the app that you download to your phone. You are limited in the number of characters you can send in a message. you can learn more on the spot website http://www.findmespot.com/en/index.php?cid=116 or watch this video:

Beware of imitation Jim White heads sold on Craigs list and Ebay
CouesWhitetail posted a topic in The Campfire
Jim White just called me and asked me to post a warning to everyone that it has come to his attention that there are a handful of inferior Jim White heads being sold as "brand new" for $200 on places like Craig's list and Ebay. A couple people have called Jim and let them know they bought these heads and found that they were "not right". They squeak and aren't lubricated properly and the plates don't slide in and out properly. Bascially Jim says a guy working at the manufacturing plant took enough components for about 8 tripod heads and then he put them together. however, he didn't put them together the same way Jim does. Jim told me he literally puts together each head from the parts and fine tunes and lubricates them so that they are high quality. Anyway, be very wary of purchasing any head being promoted as brand new and discounted. And Jim would like to hear from anyone who happens to fall prey to this scam. I think so far he knows of 3 of the 8 heads, which means there are 5 more out there. and fyi, all Jim White heads that I sell on CouesWhitetail.com come directly from Jim White and are his regular high quality product. This warning only applies to buying them online from non-authorized sources claiming they have brand new JW heads. -
I can't tell you how many times I have had had my hand or leg within a few inches of a rattlesnake. I have even picked up a live small rattlesnake that at the time I thought was not a rattlesnake and thought that it was dead anyway. I wasn't familiar with the species and being a biologist I wanted to ID it. However, once I got it in hand and got a closer look at it, I could see the small rattle and then it started moving! That's was an exciting moment! Luckily I picked it up behind the head so it couldn't bite me! It was a banded rock rattlesnake, a new species for me! I thank God that he makes them slow when it's cold out and loud when it's warm out (which is the main reason I haven't been bit yet).

LOOPROPE - revolutionary tie downs - perfect for hunting/camping
CouesWhitetail posted a topic in Other Hunting Gear
I just started carrying LoopRope in the CW store. This is a great product that I think every hunter will find useful. It's much safer and more versatile than a regular bungee. You can use them on your ATV, backpack, trailer, truck, make a cargo net out of them, and much more. check them out in the store: http://store.coueswh....com/loop-rope/ -
Can we make this a sticky! We can start a CWT.com dictionary/wiki We had a dictionary started years ago....I will have to look it up and post a link. It translated all the jargon we use on the site....pretty good one.

Wow, that's terrible! and what tragic timing right before your hunt! Glad you have insurance. But a real bummer it doesn't cover all your upgrades. Ouch! I guess those thieves didn't know you can get a CWT sticker for free from me! LOL!

Wow, those goats are loaded up! And they don't look like they even care about the load! Scott, I will help with Ronda!
