General Coues hunting question #2
CouesWhitetail replied to macknnc's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
You can find the draw odds for any unit in the AGFD publication Hunt Arizona. it also shows hunt success rates and population info. http://www.azgfd.gov/regs/HuntArizona2012.pdf -
Luke Adams is a sponsor here, an avid hunter, and provides insurance for hunters. You should give him a call or shoot him an email and see what he can do for you. http://www.agentlukeadams.com/

It's horribly dry out there....please skip having a campfire this summer! Let's not have another Wallow fire! If you do have a campfire, dump tons of water on it when you leave, please!

I posted this in the other thread about Jim, but for those that didn't see it there... Here are the details on the locations for the service and the reception. Sat, March 15th, 1:30pm at Calvary Chapel of Williams, 106 S. 9th St, Williams, AZ, 86046. Reception to follow at Wild West Junction, 321 E. Route 66, Williams, AZ, 86046. there are some hunters carpooling up there and trying to get back in time for the ADBSS banquet, so you might be able to catch a ride to the memorial service if you like. Contact me or Kathi Nixon for the ride.

NMGFD almost as crooked as AZGFD. . still lots of ground for them to make up though.
CouesWhitetail replied to bonecollector777's topic in The Campfire
bonecollector777....you asked for examples of habitat improvements....there are numerous areas that have been improved due to habitat projects which many sportsmen, including many CouesWhitetail members have worked on....just the other day I was talking to Ben Brochu who has been spearheading a plan of improving habitat primarily for mule deer in unit 37B. This plan included putting water sources in good habitat that didn't have any reliable water. I asked Ben if he is seeing results from the last many years of work and he said this year they counted more mule deer than ever in their helicopter surveys. And although the current sheep reintro in the Catalinas is not going well, there have been many successful sheep translocations which have resulted in huntable populations. How about the Gould's turkey reintroductions which have resulted in huntable populations? These are just a few off the top of my head. AGFD and wildlife conservation groups are improving habitat and wildlife populations in the state. That doesn't mean all is perfect and that there isn't a lot of work to do. But here is a question for you.....how does your ranting on this forum help wildlife populations or habitat in this state? -
Jim White undergoing open heart surgery...please pray for him
CouesWhitetail posted a topic in Prayer Requests
Hey guys, On Jan 30, Jim White will be having surgery to replace a valve in his heart. He can use all the prayers we can offer. So please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. For those that don't know Jim is the maker of the Jim White tripod head and all the great adapters for a variety of binoculars. He will have a long recovery period, and will need prayers then too. I will keep you all updated on his condition as I learn more after the surgery. -
jag critical habitat established. any predictions?
CouesWhitetail replied to biglakejake's topic in The Campfire
To add to what IAborn said, critical habitat doesn't close public land, it just forces the federal land management agencies to consider the effects of their projects on that particular endangered species. You can read more about critical habitat here: http://www.fws.gov/endangered/what-we-do/critical-habitats.html http://www.fws.gov/endangered/what-we-do/critical-habitats-faq.html -
Looks excellent!!
