    Cam Pics (Pic Heavy)

I can't. I am done till January. My brother is though. This buck is actually on the same mountain as the monster he killed last year. They look like they could be brothers. Definately the same genes. This buck just isn't quite as massive as the one he killed last year. He would make a great buck to follow up that one. Brian

    San Carlos Lake 7/10/09

Decided to brave the heat yesterday morning and hit San Carlos. Morning heat wasnt too bad as a little cloud cover kept the temps to almost tolerable, especially for a mountain boy. Anyway got on the water at 5 am and was off the water a little after 9am. Crappie fishing was tough. Could not get them to bite. Ended up with just two crappie. Maybe the bright moon kept them feeding at night. So bass fishing became the primary target. Ended up with 17 bass, largest being just under 3lbs. and 14 catfish. All bass and catfish were caught dropshotting Gulp shakey worms and 4" Gulp minnows. Water temp was 80 degrees, water clarity was pretty dingy, and water levels are low and still falling. So be careful if you go and try to run in the middle of lake and coves. Was a good day on the water.

    Good problem 2 tags

I will second that one!! In fact, if I don't arrow a buck in a few weeks, I am going to try using my archery gear during my October rifle hunt. But would you take an 85" archery buck over a 110" rifle buck? Mike I would have to say yes only because I pretty much exclusively hunt archery only anymore for deer. Haven't rifle hunted deer in arizona in years. I have a problem of using up my tag in January. The last rifle tag I had I believe was a December tag in '99. I killed a nice buck, but I passed up some nice bucks during the August archery hunt because I had the December tag. I regretted passing up them bucks ever since. I just get more of a high shooting a solid buck with my bow than a great buck with a rifle. Brian

Me personally would take an 85" archery buck over an 100" rifle buck any day of the week. Brian
  8. I love the idea of a spot to share vintage photos. I really enjoy looking at old hunting photos. So here is one of my dad. His first archery coues. The buck was taken in 1968 in Unit 27 just a few miles from Hannigan Meadows. The buck net scores 114". Everyone begged him to strip the velvet because the buck would have become the new world record. He made a good choice to leave the velvet on and he still looks good on the wall today. Brian

    When & Why?

I started bowhunting when I was twelve, and killed my first deer in Utah, a doe when I was 14. I was started on archery by my dad when I was knee high to a grasshopper. Archery has always been a part of my life just like my dad. He was one of the original founding fathers of the ABA. Now here I am 35 years old and 25 archery deer later, and I get as excited as a little kid on Christmas morning when archery season rolls around. It is just too bad I have to wait till January. Thanks to my dad, I have a passion that I hope will last forever. Brian

    Native Resident proposal

I am one of them guys that exclusively hunts archery deer. It has been a lot of years since I rifle hunted for deer. Quite a few years ago, I could see the writing on the wall, archery deer was soon going to a draw. So I started buying bonus points. Now I have nearly two hand full of points and a loyalty point for when the time comes I can use them. There was nothing stopping him from buying points while exclusively archery hunting. Brian

Recipes while out in the sticks...

Ribeyes are #1 on my list. Then I will say Cornish Gam Hens in a 12" dutchoven. I can cook three hens in one oven. Drench all three hens in butter then season pretty heavy with favorite cajun spice. Place a small wire rack in bottom of dutch oven that raises it off the bottom about 1". Put 10 brickets under and 20 on top and cook for about 75 to 90 minutes. If the top of the hens start getting brown too soon just place a piece of tinfoil on top of the hens to keep from burning. Then take a 10" dutchoven and make cheesy au gratin potatoes. Layer sliced potatoes, salt, pepper, onions until you have as many you need. Put melted butter over each layer as you build it up. Once you have as many as you want, mix a can of chedder cheese soup with 1/3 cup of milk and pour over the top then sprinkle with Italian bread crumbs. Place on top of 12" duchoven and cover lid with about 15 brickets. Cook that for about an hour. Once done, spread grated cheese on top, let melt then serve. This year we have a sun oven we are going to try out. Been using it at home and it works great. Going to set it up and let some ribs simmer and cook all day then come back to camp and have dinner ready. Tried this at home and it works great. Brian
