    Bonus Point Question

Thanks everyone for your responses. It's amazing how much of a runaround i got from the G&F today. It looks like applying for a bonus point is ok. I wouldn't have put in for a tag just to keep a loyalty point. I've got my deer for the year, I wouldn't want to take someone else's tag. Bonus points what a mess . I hate the dang things. Thanks again .

    generators

Kevin, we went through the same generator process a couple years ago. Here is what we came up with. In a one month period we went through three brand new Coleman generators. Each of them broke down and quit running the first hour they were in use. All three were different sizes and purchased from different dealers. So if it was up to me don't buy a Coleman. The one we have now is a Craftsman bought from Sears. We have had absolutely no problems with it and we have used it a bunch. My brother purchased a Generac from Home Depot and it seems to be a good one. Noise wise they all seem to be about the same, but they are louder than the Honda. Brian

    And the Hunt Begins

My brother and I went to unit 1 hunting. He had the tag. Anyway at 7:45 am Friday morning I called this tom in for my brother who laid the hammer down on him. He's a two year old bird with about a 7.5 inch beard. Brian
  4. Here are a couple pics of my brother's new coues mount that he got back the other day. It is an archery deer from January 2005. We think it turned out perfect. It was done by Richard Owens of Hunter's Lair Taxidermy in Show Low, AZ. Brian

    ITS RAINING!

Ok, here is an update this morning here in Lakeside. It is a little hard to get an accurate measurement of the snow with all of the drifting that has taken place, but it is at 37+ inches with drifts of 4 feet. Absolutely amazing. Here are some pictures to enjoy of our yard. Here i am shoveling snow Here is yesterday at 18" Here is a pic this morning of the same car that is on the left. There is supposed to be a fence here.

    San Carlos Lake

Yeah the fishing has been awesome. Been out there several times and we have been just tearing up the crappies. Limited out almost everytime. And now I am definately tired of filleting fish. Anyway here are a couple of pics of my nephew and his wife out on the water
  9. Here are some pics my camera took this past week. This one is definately a shooter. Sorry the pic is so big. I don't know how to make it smaller. These two are arguing over who gets the first drink at the bar. Thanks Brian
  10. Well we had a successfull junior pig hunt. This youngster was on his first pig hunt and was it a memorable one. The day before the season I found a lot of pigs in a good huntable spot. So the next morning my brother, Sam and I were in position glassing the ridges around the spring where these pigs were watering. After about two and a half hours of glassing and not finding the pigs we decided to go over the next ridge to see if they were over there. After getting on top of the next ridge above the water my brother decided to go onto one knob and glass, and Sam and I would go to another. Well wouldn't you know that as soon as Sam and I got out of sight from my brother, a group of seven pigs walked right by him at five yards!!! After about 45 minutes we met up with my brother and made a plan on what to do. We decided to get the wind right and circle around towards the spring where the pigs went. We just got started when I heard the pigs coming back up the hill. The wind was right so we got ready and they came over the saddle at forty yards. Sam picked the largest pig and he dropped him with his .22-250. It is a female that field dressed out at 42 lbs. Here are some picks. Thanks for reading. Brian
  11. Well, yesterday my dad and I went hunting into one of our favorite spots and we got pretty lucky. It all started off yesterday morning when my dad dropped me off on one end of my favorite ridges so I could stalk it while he drove to the other end to pick me up. At 8:00 am I spotted this buck chasing a doe. I eased in on him and proceed to miss him at about 35 yards. Well the buck run off and I thought I screwed up. So I went up to find my arrow and I as I got there I saw the doe feeding about 10 yards from me. So I waited, watching her for about 10 minutes when I saw the buck coming back down the ridge towards the doe. He crossed in front of me but it was too thick for a shot. All this time the doe was still no farther than 10 yards from me. I kept waiting and finally the buck came around a thicket behind the doe. He was 20 yards away but facing me. So I was waiting again for a good opportunity. Finally he turned broadside and I drew. Well he saw me draw and he turned straight away from me and started walking away, so I waited full draw for him to turn. At 25 yards he finally turned angling away and I released and hit him right in the last rib and it angle forward through the opposite shoulder. I marked where I hit him and decided to let him go a little while. After a little time I followed him and he only went about 45 yards. Here are some pictures of him. Now to my dad's buck. After I shot mine, we decided to go check some places where we may be able to set up a groundblind for my dad to sit. The first place we stopped to go check we got out of the truck and was gathering our stuff when I looked over and spotted a doe about 25 yards away from us. So we went looking a little harder a spotted a buck. He was in a thicket about 30 yards away. So my dad moved into position and ranged the buck and he proceeded to shoot right underneath him. He jumped a few steps and then stopped. The doe never moved so the buck didnt want to leave her behind. My dad nocked another arrow and the buck moved a few steps. My dad repositioned himself to find a lane to the buck. When he found a lane he released and drilled his buck. The buck went down within site. Not bad for a 67 year old. Here are some pictures of his buck. Thanks Brian

    Two January Archery Bucks

Once again thanks for the comments. Not in our wildest dreams did we think we would take two bucks within hours of each other. We never have had so much fun. It was a wonderful experience. Probably going back next week with my brother, maybe we can make it three for three. And I also want to thank Amanda for having such a wonderful place where everyone can share their stories and experiences. This place is the best. Brian

    Casey's First Yote

Way to go Casey. I bet it was a little nippy this morning. It sure is nice to see someone going "bang flop" on a coyote. Keep knocking them coyotes down and it will make shooting them deer seem easy. Congrats. Brian

    Two January Archery Bucks

Grumpy! Yeah just before I took the pic he just realized he was done deer hunting in Arizona for the year.
  18. Ok here is the problem I have. I have found a funnel area that has five different trails that come together. One each trail there are several different scrapes along with a line of rub trees leading right through the funnel. The funnel is probably 75 yards long and at each end of it the trails break apart and head different directions. Last weekend I stalked a good buck there and missed him three times at 30 yards. That is a nightmare I see everynight now. There are plenty of trees to put up a treestand too. So you are probably saying what the problem is. Well here it is. This funnel sets between two main roads. It sets in a "v" between one road and where another road angles into the other. The funnel sets in a section between the two roads where it is about 100-125 yards between roads. You can see deer in the funnel from both roads, and boy is there lots of deer and several different bucks that I have seen. The question I have is would it be a good idea to put up a treestand and sit there and watch the cars go by or not? There are not a lot of hunters in the area but there are alot of "tourists". What do you guys think. I have other spots too but none are as hot as this. What would you guys do? Thanks. Brian

    My bowhunting log

Holy Cow!!! Those are some nice bucks. Keep hanging in there and hopefully your patience will pay off. I would of shot the long eyeguard buck, but I admire you for holding off. When you know there is a bigger buck in the area, its hard to shoot the smaller ones. Hope you nail him. Good luck. Brian
  20. Well maybe not tigers, but bears and a lion pic, along with a couple deer pics. This pics came off of a spring that I had a camera on. I was disappointed in the number of deer coming to it but that may be because of the lion and the bears in the area. Hope you enjoy. Brian A lonely doe. And one for recurveman

    Dec success - nice 4x4

Yep, heck of a deer. Even looks better after I got my hands on the buck the other day when Mark brought him over to the house. He was sure glad he passed that 3x2 opening morning. 4x4's are far and few between, it is special when you can get one. Congrats. Brian

    Any luck in unit 21??

Was nosing around in 23 this weekend. Wasn't hunting. Glassed up one good buck with three does. Watched him chase a while then proceeded to watch someone shoot at him four times and miss. Had a friend in 24A who killed a 105 inch 4x4 opening day who saw four bucks and all were chasing does. Wish January would get here sooner Brian
  23. Vizsla-dog, yeah its Unit 29. Been seeing way too many lion pics and lion sign down there. az4life, all it is is water. Right behind the log is where the water comes up and pools. Brian
