  1. Here is an email that was received from Primos that was posted on another forum that was interesting: July 22, 2004 To Whom It May Concern: It has taken us a few days to sort through all the issues, rumors and hearsay revolving around the recent court ruling concerning the Elk draw in Arizona. Primos has advertised its products on United States Outfitters' TV show that airs on The Outdoor Channel and we have used USO's licensing services as well as hired USO for its guide services in areas that we were unfamiliar with. Primos has been pleased with all services provided by USO. Through a number of e-mails and phone calls it has become apparent that people have lumped Primos Hunting Calls in with USO as being involved with the court case. It was never our intention to take a position in this matter, but rather to let the courts decide what was equitable or not. That, of course, appears to have been misunderstood. With our use of USO's products, Primos has been included in a fight we did not ask for and do not desire to be a part of. All of us at Primos are first and foremost for the Elk and the places they call home. We do not want to do anything or be a part of anything that takes away from that. At this time, we have decided that in order to support elk, the other wildlife of Arizona, and the places they call home, we should withdraw USO's TV show from our list of sponsorships. We thank you for your input. This has not been an easy decision to reach but after much prayer and thought our decision is based solely on what we feel is best for the Elk and the Elk hunting community. Sincerely, Will Primos President, Primos Hunting Calls Brian

    !!!!!!!RESULTS ARE OUT!!!!

Well, to my dismay I didn't get anything, so until January. Congrats to everyone who drew. Brian
  4. I have had my share of quality permits in my life, and so have other members of my family, but when I explained this situation to my nephew, who is a fairly new hunter and never had a quality permit in his life, his response is troubling to me. His response to this situation was that if our odds of getting drawn, which were already bad, are now going to be slim to none then why should he even apply to begin with. It really concerns me that something like this is going deter young people from enjoying a wonderful sport. Sad sad day. Wish I could make it to the meeting tomorrow but I can't, so good luck to all those who do go. Be safe. Brian

    Happy Birhday Standman

Hey, thanks everyone for the good wishes. I apologize for not responding sooner. My puter crashed and I just now got it back on line. Anyway, I won't be taking anyone's tag this year as i took a deer in January, so good luck to all of you. Thanks again. Brian

    CAN'T WAIT!!!

I've had the itch for a while now. I've been shooting every day and daydreaming of the upcoming season. Yet I have to wait clear till January since I filled my tag this past January. So I'm hoping for an elk tag this fall as this will help with the wait if my area doesn't burn up. I live in the White Mountains and as I type a new fire has started up by Big Lake. I can see the smoke out my window. So please be careful while out and about scouting. Brian

    odd places to see coues

The oddest place i have ever seen a coues would be on the boat ramp at Windy Hill on Roosevelt Lake. I was launching my boat when I saw two does coming off of Windy Hill down to the water to get a drink. I have seen quite a few muleys there before but these were the first coues. Brian
  8. Nasty little buggers. If you want to hear something funny, I have a habit of lifting my legs off the floorboard of my truck when I drive by one on the highway. That's how freaked out I am about snakes. I've never seen one in Oct. or Nov., but during the Aug.-Sept. archery season they seem to be everywhere. Closest call I had was a predawn walk when I nearly stepped on one, lucky for me he had a mouse in his mouth. Lucky me. Brian
  9. Sure is nice to see all the moisture around the state. Up here in Lakeside in the White Mountains rained and snowed most of the day on Thursday with no snow accumulation. However, last night it snowed 6" and still snowing. Could use a lot more. Sure is beautiful. Brian

    New Member

Hey Alan. Welcome. As for me I'm from Lakeside, Az, in the White Mountains. My family was one of the first to settle the area. I am a religious archery coues hunter. As a matter of fact, I would rather chase the gray ghost than chase the moster bulls that call this area home. Once again welcome aboard. Brian
  11. Awesome deer Andy! Congrats on all your successes. Brian

    Photo Viewing Problem?

I'm having a problem that started a couple days ago that I was wondering if anybody had any solution. For some reason I cannot view any photos on this forum, including my own pics, or any other forums on other websites. All I get is a red x. I've tried to figure it out and can't. I would appreciate any help. Sure takes out a lot of the fun when you can't view photos that other people can see Thanks, Brian

    Photo Viewing Problem?

Amanda, I've been through all the internet tools, and I have tried everything there. Nothing seems to work. I've talked to a few computer people and nobody can figure out what the problem is. Thought maybe a virus was causing it, scan the computer and no viruses. Anyway, I appreciate you trying to help. Thanks Brian

  18. My brother and I had a wonderful last two days of coues hunting. Sunday morning we found a 3x3 plus thumbs (eyeguards) chasing a doe on a short ridge. We eased to within a 100 yards of the deer when they ducked down into a thick draw. We eased to the edge of the draw and decided to tickle horns together to see if he would come out. Just a few seconds later he came walking right to us. I don't know if the rattling brought him in or if he just happened to be coming our way. Anyway, he came walking by me at 25 yards when I took the shot. He only travelled about 60 yards when we saw him fall. Although he's not as big as the one I took last January, he is a trophy in my book. After we took care of my deer, that evening, my brother proceed to miss two bigger bucks (20 and 30 yards) due to those pesky treelimbs. Monday morning found ourselves looking over another 3x3 with one thumb, a two point and a doe. We watched the doe go over a short saddle while the two bucks lagged behind. We decide to see if we could intercept the bucks at the saddle. We hurried as fast as we could without making too much noise, finally reaching the saddle. We just made it there as the bucks came through. At 40 yards my brother missed under the 3X3. He just trotted a few steps sniffed the ground and lip curled. Now at 45 yards my brother drilled him. He only travelled 30 yards before going down. He is a real pretty buck with only one eyeguard. Here is a picture where you can see the antlers a little better. Total in two days hunting we saw 13 bucks, the largest would have scored well over 100. The bucks were chasing does all over the place. Not bad for a two day hunt. Oh yeah we were in unit 31. Thanks Brian

    Two Brothers, Two Bucks

Josh, here are some pics of the other bucks we have taken. Some of them are not the biggest bucks in the world, however we're are extremely proud of them. Sorry about some of the picture quality, sometimes we get caught up in the excitement and forget to take good pics. Thanks, Brian

    Two Brothers, Two Bucks

Thanks everyone for the kind replies. It sure was a lot of fun. That was my third coues with bow, and my brother's fifth archery coues in the last six years. Well time for me to get started butchering. Thanks again. Brian

    First Archery Coues

Congrats on a successful hunt. I don't think there is anything more difficult than spot and stalk hunting coues with a bow. He'll be a trophy to remember for a lifetime. I'm trying to miss the fall draw for the second year in a row, the wait is always worth it. Hope to see some pics. Once again, congradulations. Brian
  23. I thought that everyone might be interested seeing this picture. It is a picture of a coues deer that my dad killed in September 1968. The deer was taken in unit 27 near Hannigan Meadows. The buck has five scoreable points on each side and grosses 114 2/8 and nets 106 4/8. It would have been considered the world record at that time if my dad would have stripped the velvet off, which he would not do. Here is a picture of him now on the wall along with some others taken be me. Thanks, Brian

    Old Time Archery Coues Pic

Ernesto, the knife is a handmade collectors item made by LOF. My dad won it for White Mountain Bowhunter of the Year in 1973. My dad just turned 65 this December, and this past August he took his 63rd deer with a bow. For many years he hunted 4 states a year so they are not all from Arizona. As for the other 2 deer the smallest one was my first with a rifle, the other one was an archery deer from this past January. These two deer are not from 27. They are from a unit south of there.
