    December 30th buck

Congradulations Josh that is an awesome buck. There are not too many people willing to work as hard as you do, so you deserve it. Best thing about it is that you can shoot another one this week! Course it will cost you twice as much as last years..... darren

    point restrictions

I have to say I am confused as to why any hunter would want more restrictions. Usually, most of us are mad as heck at the G&F for the restrictions we already have. I do not think pt restrictions are a good idea, I think hunters should have the freedom to choose to shoot the best animal they can. I don't do much rifle hunting anymore, but I am seriously addicted to hunting with my bow, and killing any deer with a bow is tough enough without any pt. restrictions. I must say that I have come home to a nice bowl of tag soup before, simply because I could not find the right animal for me that season. Didnt fill a bull tag last year, and a mule tag this year. But, that is what happens sometimes when you chase a trophy. You have to be prepared to come home with nothing, but it should still be a hunters choice to do so, not because he has to. Twoguns

I got to hike the Grand Canyon!

Amanda, thanks for sharing your story and photos, seems as though you all had a terriffic trip. It brought back a lot of great memories, as we used to take our basketball team from Yavapai College to the canyon and hike down and out in one day. It was a rough day indeed, and you would have laughed if you had seen our group...a bunch of 6'10" kids pounding the trail in Nike basketball shoes. Quite a sight. And, just in case anyone is thinking of hiking down and out in a day, think again. It was good for our players to experience, and good team-building activity, but we couldnt practice for a week afterward. twoguns

    Una Puma!!!

Looks like you and Randy had a good time. Good excercise for you both and the dogs as well...that looks like some rough country. I actually lived right next door to Randy for a while this year, I'd recognize those dogs anywhere. Anyway, next time you guys get a chance to go out, which may be soon since we are due for some snow the next few days, I would love the opportunity to arrow a nice cat. twoguns 301-3250

    One for the Record Books

Don't forget Ernest, "When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives..." James 4:3. Hope God blesses you with a true trophy this year, which is never determined by a tape measure. Twoguns

Range Finder that you put on your bow

That seems a little too complicted to me, and still doesnt seem to take the guesswork out of it. I had a bushnell yardage pro bow mount rangefinder that worked ok, but not well enough for me. I think the laser inside it was not up to par, and would give me fits at times. But, many times it did work well. http://www.biggameproshop.com/bushnell-yardage-pro-bow.htm After experimenting with the bow mount rangefinder, I came to the conclusion that it was better to just practice guessing yardage, or hunt with a buddy that can range an animal for you. But either way, it is tough as deer especially dont give you much time to judge/range the distance.

    Archery elk tags

If they want to increase the elk herd, it seems strange that they would increase the rifle cow tags, as i would imagine the success rates of rifle hunts are much higher than archery hunts. That is the only conclusion i can reach. I will say however, that it may not really be a bad idea in some ways....I know my wife's grandparents and older aunts and uncles really want to go hunt for cow elk, and that is it, not bull elk. they dont spend a lot of time hunting, but would like to go out and get a cow to put in the freezer, but their draw odds are not real good. Maybe this will change that, but i dont think they need to lower the # of archery tags. twoguns

    2007 tag fees

You might be right, that it might keep fair weather hunters from applying. However, anytime you add cost to something like hunting you are unfairly punishing those who are poor. It may not be at that point now for too many people, I just hope AZGFD keeps this in mind in the future. That hunting needs to remain a sport for everyone, not just for rich people. Hopefully we arent headed in that direction.

    Deer tusks!!!?

Cool pictures of the tusks, would never have thought about sticking my head into a deers mouth to see if they were there, and have never had the privelage of boiling and animals head... Anyway, to throw in my two cents on the issue that came up, I dont think you can blame Bill or anyone else from seeing similarities and differences in various animals, and I also dont think that the variations can be used to prove or disprove evolution or creation. I think old Noah only took two dogs onto that creaky boat of his a long time ago, and today we sure have a very wide variety of dogs to choose from at Petsmart. Fortunately, our salvation doesnt depend on what we believe about evolution, or on any theory. twoguns

    November Moon

I took the pictures with my 6.1 mp Olympus c60 zoom through my Nikon Sky and Earth 20-60 x 80 spotting scope. The Barska digital camera adapter i bought works perfect, no complaints at all. Much better for $30 than the others that were all way more. I didnt have to use any kind of filter, just the camera and scope. I did have to buy a remote to take the pictures without touching the camera. Hope to get some good pictures of animals this year. twoguns
  15. Well, my new adapter is working well, and I was able to take some great pictures of the moon while out last week. Couldnt find a deer to take a picture of, so I decided to "shoot for the moon." twoguns

    6A hunt this weekend

Good to know you had a good time. I didnt have much luck either. I really didnt have much time to hunt, as i am building a house and burned all my free passes with my wife during archery deer and elk seasons. anyway, went a few times and passed on a few deer, and missed once as well. Did see a few elk and some coues does. Had a good time, but no more rifle hunting for me for a while. I enjoy going archery hunting more...much warmer and so many more animals around. Hope everyone else had a great hunt.
  17. Wondering who else will be hunting 6A this weekend??? I will be hunting carp somewhere between Camp Verde, Strawberry, Munds Park and Sedona. If anyone happens to see a gigantic, 27 point, 500lb muley, let me know. I will gladly trade any info if I see any large grey ghosts. With 625 hunters out this weekend, I just hope I dont get shot. Also, for those of you that will be in 6A, bear season is still open, so you might want to bring a bear tag, and be sure to bring a lion tag as well. Maybe we can help out the deer populations. 6A hunt this weekend

Good to know you guys will be out there having a good time. I was serious about letting you know if I see a good coues buck. I will be somewhere above fossil creek and boulder canyon in my tall, green extended cab chevy. Have a terrific time and be safe. Should be a beautiful weekend. Can't wait to see pictures. TwoGuns
  20. Wondering if anyone has any experience with these adapters?? I need to get on to attach my digital camera and my nikon spotting scope. If anyone knows anything about these, please let me know, like wether or not they work well?? thanks, twoguns adapter made by barska
  21. well, just to let anyone know who might want to know, i bought one of these adapters...figured i would try one out and maybe save a bunch of money. anyway, it works great and i was able to take a few pictures the other day from the front yard where i live in camp verde through my nikon sky earth 20-60x80. This adapter cost me about $40 bucks including shipping on ebay. much better than the one i was told i needed to buy made by nikon that was $199. here is a picture of the towers on Squaw Peak above camp verde, dont know how many miles they are from my place, but pretty far. and here is one of my neighbors flowers on his patio about 150 yards away.

    Boots

cant believe no one has mentioned wolverine boots. anyway, i wear wolverine bison boots and love em. they last forever and are warm and always dry, never had wet feet which is nice, especially since this year it has rained so much. anyway, for the price they are hard to beat. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=167542
  23. Went out with my dad this morning, and got into a good group of elk as they were moving to their beds. Dad has a bull tag and I had a cow tag. After giving chase for over an hour, I had just about given up when I decided to give it one more try. Crept up a small knoll, peeked over the top and there they were. Was able to sneak up and get to within 45 yards, and got a shot at her broadside just before she bed down. Arrow got both lungs and liver, Anyway, had a great day wih my dad, and killed my first elk with my bow. Hopefully not the last. Here she is. and here is what my broadhead looked like afterward.

    First Archery Elk

Doug, we were in 11m, and we are still after a bull for my dad. he has had 3 or 4 shots so far and just had some bad luck. anyway, we still have 6 days and should be ok. as for the Titan broadhead, it did break off a blad and i did find it in the liver i think, and took it out. I will talk to the butcher tomorrow and find out what he could see as far as what it might have hit. I think the ferrul on the broadhead is aluminium, so it probably bends pretty easy. It is an older Titan, and I think the newer ones have a more stiff ferrul. Still trying to figure that out. Darren
  25. Doug, if the bull that I had on my trail camera and that 5 pt are the same bull, he is still alive. My dad just saw him this morning (Wednesday), and he was bedded down right where he was under my camera. Anyway, dont know for sure if he is the same bull or not, but sure looks similar with same single eyeguards and all. Unfortunately, he is still alive this afternoon. But maybe not by tonight.
