  1. I have tried to find the other Kachina elk, but havent had much success yet. I think I found one other, a real nice 6x6 in the 360 range, but have not been able to get pictures of him yet. I have a video of him from last year, and got close to him several times, but couldnt get close enough. Had a rough weekend though, the weather killed us. Hopefully, the weather clears up soon. You ever see those elk out and about when they are not in the field RR? twoguns
  2. A few weeks ago, I posted some pictures of a bull that had bedded down under my trail camera, and asked for help coming up with a score. Thanks to those of you who had input, but I think we might be able to better judge with some new (old) pictures I found of him. I ran into Josh Epperson this morning, and started talking about hunting in 11m since we have been and will be hunting there this friday. Anyway, after talking about the pictures I posted, he asked if the bull pictures were taken near kachina village, which they were. He thought that maybe Red Rabbit had posted some pictures of the same bull earlier this summer when the were out in the meadow along the highway. So, I did a little looking and Josh was right, there he was in 4 of Dougs picturs. Couldn't believe it. Notice he is a long pointed 5 point, with single eyeguards. Here are the pictures Red Rabbit posted of the same bull, followed by my trail cam pics. Tell me what you think, same bull? and what might he score? thanks, twoguns Thanks Red Rabbit for putting your pictures on, hope you dont mind if I borrow them... It was also good to meet shortpants at long valley this weekend. great weekend all around.

    Fletchings

i went through the same thing with my wb and loosing one fletch. You need to realign your wb, either move it in or out or up or down because the reason you are loosing that fletch is that it is hitting the wb uneven. once i got mine lined up right, i have not had any trouble loosing fletchings. that has been my experience. twoguns

    Fletchings

you might check out the new bohning shrink fletches...all you do is slide them on and put into hot water and they shrink to fit. pretty awesome deal. also, because of how they are built, you cannot loose a single fletching.

    WTT 7mm for .22-250

I recently acquired a 22-250 from my brother and would possibly be interested in trading with you. I have not even shot it yet, but it is a remington that my bro used on quite a few deer and tons of yotes. Anyway, it has an older scope on it now, and I have ordered another one for it, but maybe we could work out the details. I will take a picture of it and try to post it tonight. twoguns

    Steiner preditors 12X50

I bought my dad a set of the steiner predator 12x50, and he loves them. Steiner makes great glasses, and the predators are awesome. I think for the money, you cant go wrong with them. The best thing about the steiners, is that you dont have a focus knob. They are always in focus, wether you are looking at something 25 yards or 250 yards. hope that helps. twoguns

    Unit 9 elk help

Grim, where in 9 have you been hunting? I have not hunted unit 9 in a few years now, but used to live in the park and spent lots of time out and about, in fact still have lots, and lots and lots of tree stands around the unit. Not sure I can tell you where there is a big bull, but there are some great areas where we used to see tons of good bulls. send me a pm. twoguns
  9. The elk always are messing with my cameras. Not sure why, but they like to move them around. Anyway, in several of the pictures, the elk actually have their noses right in the lense. The strangest thing to me is that he is missing one of his eye guards i think. really getting anxious for Oct. 6th to hurry up and get here. Here are a couple more pictures of the bull. http://www.ssb4.net/users/18129/pic_0049_2.jpg http://www.ssb4.net/users/18129/pic_0039_2.jpg http://www.ssb4.net/users/18129/pic_0024_2.jpg
  10. got some cool pics on the trail camera this week, trying to get ready for archery elk season. A bull actually bedded down right under my camera for several days and i had hundreds of pictures of his horns turning back and forth. anyway, anyone have any idea what he might score...? I am guessing maybe 315 or so???
  11. i here if you eat it your forearms will grow huge though....

    7 Days and counting

I drew a late archery cow tag and hope the rut runs long this year. anyway, i was up in 6a west this a.m. trying to find a deer, which I should know better by now will never happen, but the bulls were bugling non stop all morning until about 8a.m.. Saw a nice 6x6 with a herd of about 10 cows and all the bulls were bugling on the move toward bedding grounds. It was a great morning till the rain hit.

!!! YOU GUYS HAVE TO SEE THIS !!!

I hear pepper spray works well for wild animals such as these. forcibly imposing your beliefs onto someone else is never a good idea, and they should be glad, since most of us own lots of guns.
  14. Here are some more pictures of the stupid bear that ate the power lines. pretty amazing. http://www.monstermuleys.com/photos/PhotosID1/1796.html
  15. all those teeth, claws and muscles, and no brain. http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/wildlife/be...p-7958666c.html
  16. Like everyone else I saw lots of animals this weekend.....arctic cats and yamaha rhinos mostly.
  17. Tam, no hard feelings. I think we both have expressed ourselves and certainly there is room for misunderstandings to happen. Anyway, best of luck and God bless.

    The time has come!

I have a good friend that works at the depot, and cant wait for season to begin. He has a bull tag later on, but will be up there helping some friend in the next few weeks. He was out this weekend and saw some bulls that just rubbed their velvet off. Good luck on your hunt. I actually went with him a few weeks ago and counted about 25-300 elk. So there are plenty of opportunities. twoguns
  19. I am glad you were both able to communicate like responsible adults and work it out. It really should never be looked at as me against you, or us vs. them. We are all out there for the same reasons hopefully, and should try to work together and show respect for each other. How hard is that? Great post, and good for you for not being afraid to try and work it out in a mature manner.
  20. TAM, I suppose we all view things from different perspectives. As for my buddy in Flag, the old drinker he was going to sit had been dry for years and years with no water. the only reason it had water in it on opening morning was because he had put it there. Regardless, all the guy had to do was call my friend and work it out, instead he made sure to be there extra early in the morning just to screw my friend out of his opening morning plans. He made no attempt at doing the right thing, he was selfish, and I think that is wrong. I try really hard to get into areas to hunt that I will not run into other hunters. I enjoy being alone as possible in the woods, but I also know that the woods do not belong to me. My friend definitely took a risk in putting in that work on the drinker, knowing that someone might find it. I guess he was wrong to assume people, especially hunters and outdoorsmen, still had some sensitivity and courtesy. The worst part of the whole fiasco was that when my buddy confronted the guy that morning and pointed out the work and planning and sign he had posted, the guy to him to go f>>> off, and that he was there first and could care less about any work he might have done. I dont know what anyone else would do, but I know for myself, I will never treat any other hunter with that sort of contempt. I know the work I put into hunting a certain area or spot, and I would sure hate to screw up another guys hunt by being selfish. I guess I hope I hunt in a different area than people like that, or anyone that thinks what he did is ok. twoguns

  22. My buddy that I hunt with and I have been talking about this problem for a while, and actually had a long conversation yesterday about it. Between the two of us and our friends have had at least 10 incidents in the last few years where other hunters have either told us to leave the area because it is their area, or tried their best to stake their claim on the territory. It is amazing how some hunters in the woods come into an area to hunt, and in a matter of time, consider the area "their" area, and get pissed when they see someone else in the area. My buddy in Flagstaff had an unbeleivable experience two years ago. He had created a spot to sit for his archery bull hunt at an old drinker in a ground blind. He spent a lot of time hauling water into the resevoir so that he could sit there. He shows up opening morning, and some guy had put up his tree stand right above his ground blind and was already sitting in it. Whe confronted he told my friend to take a hike and that he had the right to sit there because he was there first. My buddy had even left a note in the blind that said he would be there opening morning and put his name and phone number right on it and still got the shaft. Why do some people act like they have the right to a spot, and totally throw out all courtesy and responsibility and ruin hunting experiences for others? We have lost something in the last few decades, and I dont think it is ever coming back. Too bad. I hope everyone has a great year this year and good luck. twoguns

    Pine Mtn

In the last 3 years my buddy and i have missed a few great bucks in 21, all mule deer though. Never went specifically after coues, and it was always in the winter during the rut. It can be real tough to get on deer in that country, and there certainly is no easy button. anyway, I wonder what was the name of the rancher you talked to? My wife's Aunt and Uncle run the flower pot ranch that is North of Dugas rd., and he punches cows all over that area. His name is Gary, missing a thumb on one hand, and is a great guy. I enjoy visiting with him about hunting. He has dogs and chases lions in that area often. Anyway, wonder if it was him.
