Im still baffled at the amount of resources the whole wolf "experiment" has devoured with so little return. Why is it so important to bring them back to an ecosystem that has long forgotten them and works just fine without them? Other than the warm fuzzy it gives some people who think they are saving a specie what other benefits is there that they feel it necessary to set asside 3/4 of an entire state for them? That being said Im sure NFWS has their mind made up on this. But I have to agree with rthrbhntng, we need to show some unity and the more attention we can bring to this the better. I apologize for going off topic.

Wisconsin sure didnt play like a top 25 team in my book. Their secondary was horrible and shallow. If ASU can throw on them like that imagine what Alabama would do.

I have this crazy idea that I'd like to put together my own custom hunting rifle. Im not thinking of getting too custom just a good solid action and barrel, a comfortable stock and a decent quality optic. I'd like it to be light enough to pack in the rough country but still manageable in the recoil dept too. Something that I can use on coues, bears and elk. Do you guys have any ideas?

Hey, thanks for all the great food for thought gentlemen. I know their are a lot of out of the box rifles that would more than suffice. I was just looking to have something that was uniquely mine. Good to hear all the great feedback on Tikka. I do not currently reload so at the start I'd probably be using off the shelf ammo. It seems like theres been a lot of votes for the 270 wsm caliber as well that's very interesting. I would say that I hunt archery 60% of the time so maybe rethinking my original post a little to weapon that would be used mainly for deer and bears? And may on occasion and elk? I would consider a 500 yd shot on the extreme edge of my capabilities. My longest successful shot so far has been out to the 420-450 mark. Keep it coming guys.

best thing is to just rent a pair of each and try them out. Personnally I don't think you can go wrong with either one. I've had some of the lower quality 15's... Steiner, Vortex Vipers and Minox. They were all better glass than I was at glassing.

They just want to keep making it harder and harder for you to use THEIR national forests. Besides it gives them something to harrass hunters with.

FS has done that in the past but dont think ive ever heard of it happening in the fall. Typically in late winter early spring if its been really wet.

Im pretty sure once the hunting seasons really get going youll see them start to enforce them more stringently. I saw them around quite a bit during my late archery elk hunt last year and there was hardly anyone else around.

Thought I'd add a pic of a buck I killed with the ol' 721 back in 2000. I had a scope go bad on me on my other rifle and luckily had brought this one along just as a back up.

I have a vintage Remington 721 .30-'06. The idea occurred to me today that the action may be a good start for a custom build. Where would an average guy start? Though I'd like to switch to a different caliber I'm no sure which would be the best choice I don't think I'd want anything to crazy, just different. What are your guys thoughts? Thanks.
