    36B success

Congrats! Hard not to jump right on the trigger on day 5 of 6!
  2. Got out for the opener on Friday. The morning was good with a few smaller bucks found. All day long I kept watching some does get up and reposition in the little draw next to me. I told my buddy that I was gonna sneak up to the edge and peak in the bottom to see if anything else was in there. I even joked and said "I am going to leave my gun here just to make sure there is a big buck in there." Snuck up to the edge and found the bedded does again then looked down to the right about 250 yds and found this guy up on his feet at 3pm. I snuck out, ran back and grabbed the gun. My buddy came up with me and spotted for the shot. One shot, buck down. We hunted the next few days and were able to fill his tag too. Another great trip with a great friend!

    Grandsons First Coues hunt

What a great story to tell of your first deer with all the generations there! Congrats!
  7. Got a chance to hunt the southern portion of the state this year for the second season. Such a beautiful area. Opening morning was awesome at a mere 28 degrees. Pulled into camp and started glassing from there. TONS of deer up on their feet until late morning. Only saw a few smaller bucks and not looking for a meat hunt yet as we had until Tuesday night before we had to pull out. Met up with some friends midday and headed back to a spot I had been eyeballing on Google Earth. Started picking up a few deer with one being a mid sized buck. Too far and too small for day one. Moved the glass to the North and picked this guy up at about 1,000 yards. I usually try to keep all my shots to 350 yards or less. I just don’t practice enough to do otherwise. There really weren't any good vantage points for a shot except for the small rise right in front of the ridge he was on that I ranged to be about 200 yards from him and getting there I was going to be in the wide open for the first ½ of the stock. I decided it was worth a shot. Down the hill and into the wash to the right trying to use what little cover I had until I could get behind the rise. My buddies stayed up top and let me know he was still there and feeding out into the open. I used the small hill to stay concealed and finished the stock with a 40 yard belly crawl just far enough to where my barrel would clear the brush and I had a good sight line to the buck. Almost like he knew I was coming he turns dead broadside in a wide open spot. I ranged him at 195 yds. “Click” goes the safety and he lifts his head startled at the noise. I couldn’t believe he actually heard that from there. Still broadside I centered the shot and “BOOM - - SHWACK”...... Buck Down! Great hunt with great friends. Need help with sideways pics.

Photo of Your Very First Coues

Moved to AZ October of 1998 from Washington State. Buddy invited me to go with him on his December rifle hunt since I could hunt OTC archery too. We spotted 2 bucks at about 1.5 miles out. He let me put a stock on them and I ended up shooting the bigger one in his bed at less than 20yds. He told me that I had no idea what I just did. I soon found out that filling archery tags with a spot and stalk Coues was not as easy as it seemed to be. It took me years to arrow another one. Funny part of the story was that coming from Washington we always gutted and then drug our deer back to camp to skin in a cleaner environment. I started dragging this one back and only made it about 300yds before the whole side of his body was as bald as a baby's rear end. AZ rocks are rough on a deer hide!

    2023 Guideline Recommendations

For reporting...... I recently went to Washington State and they have made it so that if you do not turn in your harvest reports (salmon, steelhead, crab, deer, elk, etc...) you have to pay an additional fee the next year. I thought it was a good win/win for those that don't want to report and the G&F Dept. gets additional revenue.
  13. Just bought this $70 pack of ink cartridges from Walmart and then my printer broke. Thought I could get the printer fixed but no go. Took them out and taped the ends before I threw it away. Should have lots of life left on them. I know its a long shot but if I could turn them into $20 I'd be happy. I know I can't be the only guy that hates paying top dollar for these dang things. In the east valley and work in Phoenix. Willing meet in the middle if reasonable. Thanks for looking.

Free Eberlestock X1 pack to youth hunter. Full disclosure: It's been used on many hunts and gone through many oxyclean baths for blood stains. One buckle is broken but it still works (see pics). The chest strap buckle broke and I put a new buckle on. The strap would slip on the buckle so I sewed it to my size. Overall the pack is in good shape and has a ton of life left in it. I can't find a size anywhere but I am 6'2" 260 lb. It fits me fine but is a little small for me. I was a bit more sleek when I bought it. Ha! I am sure it can be adjusted to fit most. Will be hunting Saturday 1/9. I will return text or pm's as soon as I can. In East Valley near McKellips and Hawes. text 602-777-zero456 or pm Thanks Bo

    Pellet Stove vs Wood Stove

I’ve had both. Pellet stove was great as long as I used the more expensive pellets. Cheap pellets would clog the auger with sawdust. Would also run into occasional problem with over feeding or under feeding of Pellets if left unattended for a long time. Maybe they are better today since this was 20yrs ago. Wood stove takes longer to warm up and is dirty. Biggest factor I ran into though is no power = no heat if using pellet stove as main source of heat.
