Ruger 10/22 custom barrels
lancetkenyon replied to HyNoon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have a Tactical Solutions 10/22. Shoots very nice, lightweight too. I will also be upgrading a factory stock 10/22 this year. I am looking at a Kidd barrel for that one. http://www.coolguyguns.com/KIDD-22LR-Fluted-Stainless-Steel-Rifle-Bull-Barrel_p_26.html -
Swift Scirocco bullets accuracy
lancetkenyon replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
The old factory Remington w. 180 Scirocco would not shoot well in my .300RUM. They killed my last elk back in 1999 though. -
What rifle should I sell

I have an 06. But it went on a diet, plus training regimen, and is now a .25-06AI. -
Kinetic bullet puller "BANG"
lancetkenyon replied to 5guyshunting's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have pulled probably 800-1000 with a kinetic hammer puller. Only thing that ever happened, that I thought was an ignition, was my RCBS hammer exploded. Just shattered into 5 or 6 pieces. Took me a while to find the head that captures the case. I also have a collet puller, but some factory loads don't have any bearing surface to grab, and the crimps are too tight to let go. So the kinetic gets them started. You are lucky Charlie. I don't think you would get enough pressure to be very dangerous, but might still cause some pain. -
What rifle should I sell
lancetkenyon replied to hamboneaz's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I think your reasoning is spot on. Keep which one shoots best. -
I have a bunch of loose bullets I keep around for various reasons. Great idea! I have a bunch of pulls too.

Dime size groups huh.... Just hacking on you. Nice rifle.

Until you have shot an 8oz trigger, you really can't imagine it. I love watching first timers shoot one. I tell them, don't even touch it until you are ready to fi....BOOM! Shock on their face, then a smile.

I am 180° from 300RUM. I have a Timney 510 @ 1.5#, a 512 @ 1.5#, and two Calvin Elite @ 8oz. each. The best triggers I have ever shot. I also have a Shilen Match @ 1.5# which is very nice. I have shot Jewell, TriggerTech, tuned factory Remmy, CMC, Rifle Basix, and a Jard. I have not tried a Bix'N Andy, X-treme Shooting, or Tubb 700....yet. I think the Calvin Elite is worth every penny. Super crisp, no creep, adjustable to very light pull weight, nice and thin shoe.

Picatinny rail does not contact scope objective bell. It is close, but I can slip a dollar between it.

Pure sexy.

I think he is out of Bisbee, AZ? I have heard of him, but no range reports on any of his rifles.

Usually the high end rings do not require lapping. Seekins, Badger Ordinance, American Rifle Co., etc. All I use are Seekins and Badger. Never, ever, had an issue with ring marks, scope damage or scope slip with them using proper torque. I use 2 different methods. I use the Wheeler levels (1 goes in the action on the bolt raceways, one on the top of the turret. I also use the playing card trick. Stack playing cards on top of your Picatinny rail, under the turret bell. Just enough for the scope to sit fairly tightly in the rings with the top straps finger tight. This helps keep the scope body level with the rail. As long as your reticle is not wanted in the scope, this really helps. Then, tighten the cap screws in a star pattern, like a truck tire. Start with 1/8 turn each, then finger tighten the next screw and continue the star pattern. Once they are all snugged, continue the star pattern with 1/8 turn until you start getting your clicks on the torque wrench @ 15-22 INCH/pounds (not FOOT/pounds, That is 1200% over torqued). Keep the star pattern until they are all tight to your required torque rating with turning even a tiny bit. Always keep checking your levels at each turn. Some rings seems to twist the scope more than others when you are torqueing screws. Verify reticle with the level and a know true vertical line at distance. I have a great steel pole that I use. Then remove the playing cards, which will be pretty tight to get out. I actually just did this twice this afternoon. With my Premier and a S&B. Always works fantastic for me.

I can say the HS Precision are decent stocks for the price. Much better quality than the newer B&C stocks. QC at B&C has really slipped over the years. The old B&C stocks used to be pretty good however. The last couple HS Precision stocks I had were about 2lbs 6oz and they were listed as 2.0#. My McMillan w. Edge fill is about 1lb 10oz, my Manners EH1 & EH2 are both about 1lb 8oz. My McMillan Game Scout w. standard fill is about 2lbs 8oz, and my Manners T2A is about 4lbs. IIRC. Have you checked McMillan stock on available blanks that can be custom inlet to your specs in 4-6 weeks? https://mcmillanusa.com/product/game-warden-select-rifle-specs/

CWT group effort Wildcat Rifle build
lancetkenyon replied to Zeke-BE's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have a great load in my .25-06AI using RL22. So good I have not had the desire to work up a new load. If you have a fairly broad velocity difference in your accuracy node, 40fps changes won't affect POI when temps change if you work right in the middle. I can definitely vouch for the 1fps per 1° temp swing. I go from 3365 to 3445fps between 30°F & 110°F. But since I rarely hunt with that rifle when temps are above 90°, I have a speed swing of about 60fps. Which is still in my accuracy node, so POI shifts very little out to 600 yards. Especially since my load work was done @ 50°F, meaning for anything other than maybe a desert antelope hunt (That I can't draw a tag for any way), 95% of my hunting ranges between 30° to 70°. My baseline for ballistics is 3395fps with the 115 Berger HVLD, so I am good with the swings. My ballistic program is also set up up with the 1fps per 1°, so it can account for the slight changes. -
Great prices on great camo. Wish they were a bit smaller.

Www.stockysstocks.com carries them too.

Subsonic .22s.

I am betting SFP for that $600 new price listed by OP.

I am up in the general vicinity, and there is a huge pack that resides in Skunk Creek. I have seen 18 at a time before, but usually in smaller packs of 3-5 roaming the neighborhoods.

If he ever shoots prone, stay away from radial style brakes like Vias and KDF. While they work great, they blow dust/sand/rocks right in your face/rifle with the down ports.
-
IT will work fine but not needed. A good 3 side port design will work just as good if the bore size is close.

Number of rifling grooves?
lancetkenyon replied to 300RUM's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Rock Creek will spiral flute a barrel for you too. My .300RUM wears a spiral fluted Rock Creek. Shoots in the .3s all day, in the .1s on occasion when the stars line up. -
28 Nosler 30 Nosler 33 Nosler
lancetkenyon replied to Zeke-BE's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Only 3 firings from Remington headstamped .300RUM brass??? You must be shooting a REALLY hot load. I still have 112 of my original 120 pieces from 1999. I have between 8-10 firings on them, depending on which individual piece. And I feel I run them fairly hot. I used to shoot 175 SMKs @ 3360fps, 175 LRX @ 3350fps. 210 HVLD & 215 Hybrids at 3100fps now. Many other attempts at tinkering around using various bullets too. Some of them have been getting loose primer pockets over the last year, so getting to be time to start looking for more brass soon.
