  1. I have no issues with a belted case like 7RM or 7STW. But some people hate them. Depending on intended use, and shooting frequency, that will vary recommendations. With the description, sounds like a lighter weight hunting rifle. I have of loaded and shot one 28 Nosler to date. But it was a 12# rifle with a brake. Not bad at all. 195 Elite Hunter @ 3095ish. 7RUM can match that. I have loaded a bunch of 7RM with 168 & 180 Bergers around 3000-3100. 7LRM is right in the same range. Much less powder usage in these class cases as well. 7 STW is in between these cartridges. None of them will give you great, or even good barrel life. But if you plan to just use it as a Hunter, good to go. Any of tjem are taking deer and elk a long ways out. Probably as far as 99% of hunters would reasonably consider in a hunting situation. If handloading, all are a very viable option. Buying factory loads? 7RM hands down for selection and availability. Remember, light rifles are great to carry, but harder to shoot well at long range. That is why my lighter weight carry rifles are chambered in slightly smaller rounds like the .280AI @ 8lbs 15oz all in, and 7RM @ 9lbs 10oz (IIRC?). While my LR elk rifle is a heavy weight @ 13+lbs in .300RUM.

    Barrel twist question

I have shot several coyotes with the 69 SMK from a 24" .223 @ 3033fps MV. All died right there, right now. And the accuracy is astounding. We have also shot a few javalina with them, and nothing went further than 50 yards. Jackrabbits can't stand them either. I have given several of my same reloads to friends for their kids to go shoot does, and they all worked great on muley does too.
  3. You will need a minimum of 1:10" twist. Seeing as how you stated you have a "long throat, I am going to assume custom barrel and probably 1:10" twist? My .300RUM shoots a 230 Berger Hybrid very well with a 1:10" twist. Those bullets are pretty long too, about 1.640". I THINK I measured a 200 LRX @ something like 1.620", so of you get tjem moving fast, you should be OK with a 1:10" twist and 3000ish fps.

    7E archery cow tag

I spent a 20 hour day on Saturday looking for elk in 7E on Saturday. Glassed for at least 10 hours. I glassed a total of 4 elk. A small 5x5 and 3 cows. Tons of deer, and a few antelope. One half-hearted bugle about 5:15AM down low. To be honest, I am getting nervous for my upcoming hunt that is my first elk tag this century....

    Brass choice

If I was shooting a 6.5 CM, I would definitely go Lapua brass. My choice of brass if available is in this order. 1. Lapua (especially since they are doing the small primer pocket) Absolutely top quality brass. Weight sorting should be within .8-.9 grains, maybe better. My .260 cases were within .6 grains across 205 pieces. Fully prepped. Run it through a neck sixer and load it up. 2. Nosler. Even though Norma makes Nosler brass, Nosler goes the extra step of weight sorting. Extremely high quality. Every batch I have worked with in all cartridges has been within 1 grain across lot numbers. Fully prepped. Run it through a neck sizer and load it up. I personally do not care for Hornady brass at all. As for the small primer pockets, look at the other cartridges that use them and decide. All known for their accuracy. .220 Russian (used for 6 PPC) 6BR Norma, 6.5x47L, and .308 Palma cases. Read up on them. http://www.lapua.com/en/headlines/335/6.5-Creedmoor-is-here!

It wasn't quite "one day", but that rifle sure made it easy with as well as it shot.

    Gear review

I bought a pair of the Kuiu Tiburon pants used from a member here. I love mine too. I wish they came in more solid color options like the attack pants. I have worn mine from dove hunting to scouting trips so far. Super comfortable and cool with the open "mesh" fabric, yet tough.
  15. I am done with everyone else's loads after today until my hunt is over. This was a rush job for a friend who has a hunt starting the day after mine ends. So I had to finish it yesterday, so I can load them up today. I will be scouting until my own hunt starts now. The Stiller action is really smooth. My one dislike for it is something I never would have thought of, and probably would never matter to anyone else. When you are shooting right handed, on all other rifles I have ever shot, you can see in the ejection window, even with a 1 piece base, to see a round ready to feed. The Stiller is a stiffer action, and the ejection port goes up higher on the off side. So you can't see a round being chambered from the magazine or if you drop one in. Very minor, but it bugged me. But that rifle is badass. Build quality is like my two from AxisWorks, nothing short of excellent.
  16. Very long day of shooting yesterday. Up at 3:30, shot 60 dove. Went home, earned the birds, made a sandwich, got a haircut, then loaded up 4 rifles at hit the range in the afternoon. Great weather. I got my .300RUM verified with 6 shots. Ready for elk season. Shot two different sub-half MOA groups. Tried 2 new powders in my .280AI and found a load I am going to use for my elk hunt as a back-up rifle. Not quite as fast as I would like, but with time running short, it will do just fine until after my hunt when I can do a full workup on it. I also got the Premier Heritage Light Tactical 3-15×50 mounted and sighted in too. After the photo, 2 clicks left, 2 clicks down for a 225 yard zero. I also got to fire form about 24 rounds of 6.5 SS. These are my fire form load speeds. 4.5 grains BELOW max charge. This thing is going to be a laser!!! This is a 142 SMK @ 3109fps average for my fire form loads. I also got to shoot another AxisWorks rifle in 28 Nosler I am doing load development on.....holy crap that thing is awesome! I had the range to myself after 6:00pm too. 28 Nosler w. 195 Elite Hunter next to a .300RUM w. 230 Hybrid And I got it shooting decently...
  17. Hopefully over the weekend, I can get some fire form and test loads shot.... .280AI, 168 HVLD, 3 different powders, up to 5 charge weights per powder. H4831SC, H1000, RL23 6.5 SS, 5 different bullets, 2 charge weights per bullet (except 15 for the 142 SMK to sight in, and only 1 charge weight for the Barnes 127 LRX). 142 SMK, 142 NABLR, 140 Hybrid, 127 LRX, 140 HVLD. 6.5 SS w. 140 Hybrid vs. .280AI w. 168 HVLD Looks like a Ford GT40 sitting next to a 1951 Mercury Lead Sled. Short, low, super fast vs. Long, slow, and heavy. But both do it with style and pure sexiness!

Price drop to $60. I won't go lower. I will just save it for my next build.
  20. Still a wildcat. Based off the SAUM case. About .100" shorter than the 6.5 SAUM (GAP 4S), but with a 40° shoulder instead of 30°. Should be shooting it briefly this weekend.

    Don't kill it

Unless they are in a populated area, I let them be. Even scooted them off roads and removed them from work sites. If I can safely move it, it lives. If it will not leave an area either on it's own or let me move it from where it poses a threat to people, it dies.
  25. I just finished load development for an R700 Sendero in .264WM w. 1:9" twist. I didn't even attempt a 140+ bullet. But the 130 HVLD I worked up is a laser beam. It wasn't the fastest load I tried, but it is the most accurate. And 3195fps is still nothing to sneeze at.
