  1. All but one of my scopes are in the 31-36oz range. It is not weight that would keep me from buying one of them. It is tracking, reliability (not meaning the best warranty, but hopefully one I will never need to use), repeatability, glass quality, and features.
  2. I have shot behind one of them, and SEVERAL different Swaros. X5, X5i, Z5, Z6, Z6i. I would give the glass nod to Swaro over the Sig I shot behind. Features were great however, better than the Swaros for my tastes, but glass goes to Swaro for my eyes.
  3. Looks like saw tooth marks to me, but no clue. All is well now, as Axisworks has me all trued up now.

    16 Gauge O/U w/3" Chamber

I have a Winchester model 12 that used to be my Grandpa's. It was not working when I got it. Tore it apart, cleaned it after probably 40 years of sitting, and took it out 2 years ago to try it out. 3 shots, 3 doves. It sits in my safe now. It is an early one, don't remember the year, but 90 years old or something like that.

    Hot weather coues shed

I know where there is a muley pick up rack that I have glasses up 4 or 5 times. But dang if I have ever had the desire to hike out and get it. Nasty, NASTY terrain to go get it about 2 miles away.
  10. Finally got around to scoring all the targets....dang we have some accurate .22s out there. I think the heat scared a lot of guys off, as I did not receive a lot of targets back. Final standings. I just lumped everyone together, so a few guys (and a gal) could make us all feel bad. (I can't believe there are any squirrels left in the woods with the accuracy of these .22s) Big Browns - 476 Mike S - 371 Taylor K - 333 Shooter McGavin - 283 Lancetkenyon - 251 My brother Dennis - 218 TAC - 217 Greg Adams - 176
  11. I hope more than 1500, but we might not ever see.

    twist rate question

.270 Win? .270 WSM? Wildcat? Berger states a 1:8" recommended twist rate. Which means the slowest shooting .270 can stabilize it at sea level. Faster or higher DA only increases stability. Colder temps will decrease somewhat as well as some other very minor environmental factors like humidity. I like the 5R barrels, but think the 1:7.5" twist is a bit better rate. If they are both from reputable makers, take your pick. I think cartridge choice would help make my decision too. Right now, I am leaning toward the 1:7.5 6 groove if it is a good barrel maker.
  13. Finally found some Nosler .280AI brass in stock! 100 pieces on their way! Should have them next week. What a relief.

Accident mix powder what to do??

I am thinking it is not 120 oz., but 120 grains? Meaning two loaded rounds worth? Shake it up really good and don't sweat it, use it for fire forming.
  19. I really do not like the WSM neck/shoulder design at all. The neck is way too short. The 35° shoulder is nice though. I really do not expect to run a 140 @ 3300. I will be very happy with 3150, and ecstatic with 3200ish. My .25-06AI was a .2-.3" gun, but it took a long time and trial and error to get there. But I learned a lot of techniques through the years tinkering. It is more the fact that my first semi-custom I ever built, and spent a lot of my hard earned money when times were tight, was basically not completed correctly, and I did not get all the work I paid for back then. About $350+ worth. But...all corrected now, and the rifle should really turn out nice. I am extremely anxious to get it in my hot little hands.
  20. Depending on bullet and powder type, 58.0-62.5+. Supposedly 3150-3200 is very easily doable, and 3300 with a 140 in a 26" barrel run hard is possible. I plan on using a 140 HVLD (as I have about 700+ in my cabinet) and something like H1000, Retumbo, RL23, RL26. Going to be a hunting rifle, so I need temp stability.
  21. 12-13 years ago, when I had my .25-06AI built here locally, I paid for the action to be trued and an aftermarket recoil lug to be installed when they were installing my new barrel. When Eric took the barrel off to start prepping my action, he found the work was not performed. The face was not square or even touched, and still had the factory Rem recoil lug. As he found it. After he squared and trued it up. It took me 2 years of saving back then to build this rifle. And I now find out some of the work I paid for never happened. Thank goodness for modern technology like cell phones for gunsmiths to keep you informed of progress nowadays. Here is the Hawkins brake on the left next to a brake Eric makes for another company to be used on rifles in the .375 & .408 Cheytac and .50 BMG range.

    Accurate Description?

Depends on where it is describing. Some areas only hold mule deer, but if they mean the entire state, they left out Coues. Not sure about the "within minutes that can follow their mothers" statement. But I guess even 6 hours could be described as minutes. 120-250# is accurate. Black on the tails is accurate for the most part. Smaller than an elk is accurate. Main food source as juniper is incorrect.
  24. They engrave them on the shank.
