    Eurasian Collared Doves

I shot them all year long from my back patio. Nice having 600' behind the house to the back fence.
  2. All of my rings that I currently have are a minimum of 4/4 screws per ring. Some are 6/4 sets, some are 6/6 sets. Is it necessary? Not sure, especially on a heavy rifle with a brake. Better to have and not need, than need and not have. With that being said, I ran 2 screw Leupold rings for years torqued to spec and never had a scope slip, even over heavy hitters like a .300RUM.

  6. I installed a DNZ mount for a guy on a rifle and mounted his scope. Scope was a Swarovski X5i. I believe the mount was a 30mm low? The turret Bell hit the mount cross bridge, so I called the customer. I had to mill the mount just a touch in the center to get the scope to set in the rings correctly. So just be aware of that possible issue. Other than that, they are nice. But mounting length is limited depending on length of tube on your scope. A Picatinny rail and rings give you a bit more flexibility for eye relief and moving a scope forward or backwards. Especially nice if your rifle gets used by other people. I move my scopes back one notch for my daughter on her hunts, and it has never changed zero. I have also had to mill down the top of a Picatinny rail for a turret housing to clear with low rings too, so don't think it is just the DNZ mount. With certain scopes, they have bigger turret housings, so they might barely touch the base.
  7. All of my bases and rings are alloy. There is quite a difference in weight.

    Elk pose

My son-in-law has to do a mount like this but with closed mouth for his because he only had 9' ceilings.

It is called a "hiding behind a white picket fence" pose. Very rare.....

    Official "Target Fun Shoot" Thread

When we were out Sunday, I had one guy to the right bouncing pistol bullets through our targets, and then a guy on my left start shooting at our targets because he didn't put his own targets up. I was ready to punch someone after that. Luckily, the dummy shooting intentionally picked a different target we had up while checking zero on my 7RM. But both Taylor and I caught an obvious elongated large hole bounce through our targets.

    Irish Setter Hiking Boots

These are definitely NOT hiking boots. That being said, I own a pair of them, and they are absolutely 100% the most comfortable boot out of the box I have ever tried. I tried 20 different pairs, and went back and bought these. Warm, but don't make my feet sweat when I hike. Totally waterproof and high on the calf. The only time my feet got cold in these this past elk season is when the leather was soaking wet from slush, and then we sat glassing in the single digits temps in the evening. Lightweight wool socks kept my feet warm down to 4° when the leather wasn't soaked. Aggressive "Air Bob" soles are secure on rocks or snow. But they track sticky mud like crazy.

Remember, everyone who sends in their targets to me get entered into a drawing. I will go buy a gift card of their choice to Cabela's, Bass Pro, or Sportsman's Warehouse. You don't have to get the best score to win. 5 points might beat 194 points. I will give points for the highest point ring you hit on the multiple ring targets. Also, looking at those targets, I see every shot taken as dead animals, even on a Prairie dog!

  18. Here are a few examples for you to get a reference from. All of there are 34mm tube station, so take off about .10" for a 30mm tube scope. Meaning .82" to .90" heights. So a "Low" should easily clear a 44mm objective bell with caps. Steiner T5Xi 5-25×56 w. 20MOA Picatinny base, Seekins "High" (1.0") rings over a Shilen #4 contour (just a tad heavier than a Rem Mag Sporter contour) I wish I would have gone Low on these rings. Kahles K624i 6-24×56 w. 20MOA Picatinny base, Seekins "Low" (.92") over a Bartlein "Sendero" contour. Schmidt & Bender PMII 5-25×56 w. 20MOA Picatinny base, Seekins "Low" (.92") rings, over Bartlein #3 or 3B contour. Vortex Razor Gen II 4.5-27×56 w. 20MOA Picatinny base, Badger Ordinance "Max 50" "High" (1.0") over Rock Creek "Sendero" contour Schmidt & Bender PMII 3-20×50 w. 20MOA Picatinny base, Badger Ordinance "Max 50" "High" (1.0) over Bartlein #3 contour (just a bit heavier than Rem Mag Sporter contour). I could have easily gone "Low" on these rings.
  19. One thing to add to 300RUM info on rings. Almost all rings are measured from top of rail to middle of rings (where top half of rings sits on bottom half of ring). So finding a .275" ring height is going to be hard. Most low rings will state a height of somewhere in the .800-.880" range for a 30mm tube depending on manufacturer. Don't skimp on the piece of metal that holds the optic to the rifle. I like Seekins Precision or Badger Ordinance myself. Seekins lows are .820" Badger lows are .823" Vortex lows (made by Seekins) are .83"

We shot this morning too. It was crazy windy again. But shot OK. Not my best, but OK in the wind. Of course, after we shot our targets, the wind quit an hour later.
  21. Low rings for sure on a Picatinny base. You don't need 20MOA base for 800 yards, but might as well get one if you have one on other rifles. At least all of mine have them, because I always have to tinker, so swapping scopes around is quick and easy, and usually within a MIL or 2 when I swapped out scopes.
