    Watch out for your dogs

My dog got one last year. It is not the toxins that kill them, it is the rapid and extreme body temperature spike that does. Dogs have a normal body temp of 101-103, and my dogs was something like 108 within 10 minutes. Rinsing the mouth out helps clear the toxins that cause the effect so they don't get more pronounced. A cold bath/hose for a good while lowers the temps back to safe levels.

    Kuiu clothing

So my Teton is a medium, and one of my Guide DCS jackets is a large, specifically to layer them together. I wore this combo, with a Poly base and long sleeve T-shirt last year in 10-30 degree temps sitting and glassing last elk season and stayed totally warm. I wore jeans with the Yukon Rain pants on the bottom. Uninsulated Danner Gila w. a light weight Merino wool socks, medium weight gloves, neck gaiter and a beanie too. Good to go. Anything over 35 degrees I was down to just one of the jackets.

    Kuiu clothing

I love mine. I only have the outer wear though for the most part. Very comfortable, warm, quiet. Clothing is cut fairly fitting (I am 5'7" 155# and the mediums fit great). I have 2 of the Guide DCS Jackets (1 Verde, 1 brown) 1 Yukon Rain pant in brown 1 Kenai Hooded Insulated Jacket in Verde 1 Teton Soft Shell Jacket in Verde

    Pollitical Correctness and Thin Skin

When are adults going to start acting like adults again? You know, where they are not offended by everything and anything? I am on a jobsite today, and have a tower crew at each end of a MW hop we are pathing in. One of the younger tower climbers at the other end has a truck with a bumper sticker that reads "I love Beaver, NV" No kidding, I just got a call from the end customer asking the truck be removed immediately from the property, because a female employee at the building where the rooftop MW is located was offended by the bumper sticker. Is it professional? Probably not. Is it insinuating something else? Yeah. Is it immature? Probably. Is it funny? I think so. Is it worth getting your panties in a wad? Definitely not.

So they don't spin in and out of a pack or shoulder, etc. Even though it has never happened to me.

    Cowtown Range info

I like the place. The west range has probably 15-20 steel targets from 315 to 998, plus you can see the 1000 yard target from the east long range, and it is 1371 from the west range. Pricey for sure though. Membership is "coming soon". Not sure what that will mean to prices.

    Pollitical Correctness and Thin Skin

So I work at government facilities, and as a contractor, a paying customer who effects my future employment is always right. They may pay extra to be right however. The nice ones get certain perks. The PITA ones do not. They pay for every deviation from contract. You are dang right he moved his truck. Whether I agree or not. I would like to keep my relationship with this organization in good standing. I don't feel a bumper sticker is worth losing future work. And yes, some of my customers are that demanding. But they pay their large bills on time, every time. I am a gentleman to everyone I meet until they prove I need to behave otherwise. I try my very hardest not to curse around women, hold doors, say yes please and no thank you, yes sir and ma'am. I personally would not have the bumper sticker on my truck. But I still think people are WAY too sensitive nowadays. And I am only 45, but I was raised by a great father who instilled manners in me. But he also instilled the ideas that the world is tough, so I need to be tougher.

    something like a 6-24 or a 4.5-14?

Best of both worlds. 3-24 March. Super lightweight, and huge range of magnification. But, my scopes are mostly within the 5-20, 5-25, 6-24 range, with the exception of one 3-20. No joke, I have hit running jackrabbits at 30 yards on 5x on numerous occasions. Not much FOV difference between 4.5x & 6x. For a long range rifle, which you are asking about in the Long Range Section, definitely the 6-24. Maybe a 5-20 if you want middle ground. Maybe even the 4-20 Burris XTR II.....

    New .300WM Load Development

I am ready to ladder test this weekend. Weighed and measured 50 bullets (25 from each box of 100) to get a general feel for consistency. Out of the 50, 4 were 210.1gr, and 5 were 209.9gr. The rest were all 210.0gr. OAL ranged with a .010" difference. But BTO was within .002" across all 50. I know these show me using the wrong insert (.264"), but I will switch to the .308" and re-photograph and record them. I measured the magazine box length to see how much room I had to work with as well. I checked seating depth jammed to lands. With these measurements, I know the rounds will have about a .075" jump to fit in the magazine smoothly. Here is my starting seating depth to fit in the magazine. Keeping a log of all the info so far, and you can see the bullet doesn't take up too much case space. I seated the bullets about .010" short of max mag length to ensure smooth operation and no binding in the box. I neck sized, tumbled and annealed all the new brass. Primed all 100 cases with CCI 250 Mag primers I always throw the charges with an electronic scale/powder throw to within .3gr less than target, then transfer to my RCBS 5-0-5 and trickle up to the individual kernel of powder for every single round. This is the difference a single kernel of H1000 makes. I built 9 sighters (w. red ring on bullet) and a ladder test of 14 rounds with different charge weights. Here is my log book so far: Rifle and scope info. Brass info. Bullet and cartridge COAL & CBTO info And my ladder test charge weights. Note the difference between the Berger and Hodgdon suggested "Max". Berger max is at a slightly shorter COAL than Hodgdon. The COAL I am starting with is even a bot longer than the Hodgdon COAL. And an example of how I mark the different charge weights in case the box got overturned or spilt. You can tell this is the 76.0gr. load by the symbol. I will start low, and work up marking each shot and watching/feeling for signs of pressure, and stop when I hit that point.

    7mm Sickness

As you can see, I do load development for quite a few people. It just so happens I have a set of .308 Win dies already too. I worked up a load for another guy in that cartridge. I only do one load development at a time though. It allows me to concentrate on that specific rifle, while not consuming every minute of my free time. Usually takes me 4-6 weeks to do full load workup.
  21. Price new components, subtract 10%. 20% if he is a good friend. +10% if he is a jerk. Something is worth what someone else is willing to pay for it.
  22. I have a B&C Medalist too. Decent stocks for the money. No McM or Manners, but at 1/2 to 1/4 the price, it is definitely a step up from Hogue or the Tupperware plastic stocks.

    Good coues rifle scope?

I have spent some time behind the 3-15 SWFA. And although it is a different animal, a lot of time behind the 5-20 SWFA. I do not think they are hard to get behind personally. I have been behind a few scopes that had a very critical eye box. I think a 3-9 is a good scope for shots out to 800 easily, but a 15x would help refine holds at those distances too. With the same FOV and 3X low end, I would take the extra 6x on top all day long myself. I think SWFA is often overlooked by those who are not in the know. Great glass for the prices, great products, tough, and great CS should you ever need it. The only downside to them is reticle choice and lack of a few nifty features like zero stop (which you can add with a shim kit for all models other than the 5-20), second rotation indicator, and locking turrets, even though mine has never inadvertently spun a knob in the field.
