This is funny. I was sitting at lunch today and thought, "Oh shoot! I haven't put in my apps yet!" Just got offline from putting us all in, and had no idea it was the first day they were accepting them. Got through with nary a hitch.

My whole family puts in by themselves. That way, odds of draw are better. And I get to go with one of them no matter what. Whether I am carrying the tag or not, it is ALWAYS a fantastic hunt when I am with a family member.

Az Deer Association Banquet

Come on people. 2 spots left. Bump for a good organization charity donation. -
Man, you guys are harsh. I have had a bunch of work done there, and all have been very realistic. My gay bobcat I shot... Another bobcat that was laughing at the gay bobcat when I shot him... The lion that was tapping his buddy to look at the gay bobcat I shot... The polar bear and brown bears that were watching the gay bobcat in shock and awe.... And the disgusted coyote watching the gay bobcat... Man that was a good day of hunting.

Home Depot carries the Klean Strip Premium. But seriously, be careful. It burns! -
Rifle Stock Painting

Depends on what I am stripping. I have some stuff, for metal use only, that is like liquid fire when it gets on your skin, even a bit of splash or splatter burns like the Devil. But it takes paint off like no other. I have never tried it on plastic or fiberglass, as it might just turn everything into a puddle of goo. Klean Strip Premium Stripper. For other stuff, Goof Off Graffiti Remover works well, or CitriStrip. Even mineral spirits works OK if you need to be very careful, like with plastics, but it takes forever and lot of elbow grease. -
Doesn't matter if they are cheap Tupperware, plastic, cracked fiberglass, what they came off of, etc. I just need some stocks for testers to paint. My other 2 test stocks have about 8-10 layers of paint schemes on them, and looking for some fresh canvasses. Let me know if you have any collecting dust in the closet and never plan on using them again. Thanks.

My older daughter is a special education teacher. This will directly effect her. She says NO to 123, and I will too. Bad deal for the AZ education system in thelong run. In 10 years, it will be in worse shape than it is now if this bill passes.

We were out in 7W today, and saw 13 bulls. Saw a couple that have a great start, going to be some nice bulls in a few months if they keep up the pace.

We did 5.5 miles today and didn't find JACK!

My cousin will be in 7E for the late hunt too. And if I finish with my kids hunts early in 7W, I will be helping him. Good luck.

I also did a mock up for a member, just for reference. A little more of a blended pattern. -
Rifle Stock Painting
lancetkenyon replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Finished another stock tonight. About 8 hours into it. Started out as an HS Precision Tan w. Black web, and had some green spray paint added about 6 years ago. I cleaned it thoroughly and got about 80% of the green off. After 3 light coats of primer, I applied thw base colors of flat Khaki, Fossil, Dark Taupe, and a bit of Nutmeg. Sanded it down with some 1500 grit and then masked the patterns. Hit is with more alternating Khaki, Dark Taupe, Nutmeg, and some Warm Caramel. Then masked off every other block and hit those with Dark Taupe, flat Brown, and Flat Mud. Then stripped all thw masking and laid 3 coats of matte clear. -

I shoot the 140 Berger HVLDs also, in 2 different 6.5mm cartridges. To fit in my R700 magazine box, and where the sweet spot is, I have a .120" jump in my 6.5 SLR, and .080" jump in my .260Rem. I would like to try the 143 ELD-X also, but two reasons keep me from doing so. 1. Can't find any locally. 2. Can't bring myself to break away from the 140 HVLDs that shoot under .200". But tinkering is always fun, so if I can get some, I will try them. I know I can't get the 142 NABLRs to shoot well yet, but still working on them.

I would say Cerakote or paint.

The banquet is getting close people. A little over a week away. Get your tickets and support a fantastic group. The kids camps they put on are second to none. -

Cerakote Armor Black. A true flat black. Almost looks like an old blackboard color. -
Beautiful build.

Shot distances in NM unit 23
lancetkenyon replied to Splatt's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
Probably similar to many AZ units for Coues. Anywhere from 5 to 1300 yards. Use the rifle you are most comfortable and practiced with. Confidence and experience in your rifle trumps any of the super calibers if you don't know where the bullet is going. -
Well, it is time to add a gun safe. I am looking to spend under $1500 if possible. I have seen a e at Sportsman's (Browning brand) that were pretty nice with some cool features like an inside the door gun rack to hold unscoped shotguns. Anyone have leads on a safe store or other places besides Sportsman's or Cabela's? I am north central Phx. area, not looking to travel to Tucson, Flagstaff or Mesa to pick one up.

Take how many long guns you think you will ever own, and DOUBLE it. A 50 rifle safe realistically only holds 20-25 rifles unless you don't care about tjem and absolutely cram them in. And then you lose shelf space so the binos, LRF, spotter, GPS, etc. Won't fit in there. Mine is a "50 gun", and I am not even close to that number but they are comfortable in there, with room for about 4-6 more.
