I push a .674BC 180 Hybrid to 3000fps, and a .707BC 183 SMK to 2980fps, both out of my 7RM. Respectfully: 180 Hybrid, 500 drop 33.4", 1000 drop 223.8" 183 SMK, 500 drop 33.3", 1000 drop 221.3" But, here is the kicker....what about retained velocity, energy on target?

You guys realize there are going to be some AMAZING raffles for great stuff there, right? Maybe I should keep my mouth shut....more chances for me to win. -
3150 for a 150 .308 is possible, but it has to be at the very limits of the pressure threshold for the case and action. 3250-3300 for a 150 .284 out of a 7RM is also possible when loaded hot. The 154 SST has a BC of .492, not .525. So a 7RM, pushing a 154SST @ 3250: 500 drop 30.6", 1000 drop 222.8" 150 NBT w. BC of .447 @ 3250: 500 drop 31.7", 1000 drop 238.5" All of this at 28.22" baro, 70°F, and a 200 yard zero. Let's compare extreme apples to apples. Because 3150fps from a .308 w. 24" barrel is NOT the norm. Heck, 3150 from a 7RM w. a 150gr bullet is barely the norm. I am not saying it is not possible. But if you are just comparing BC & velocity between the two, then yes,a .308 bullet and a .284 bullet with similar BCs driven @ the same velocity will have similar down range performance.

For a meticulous hand loader looking for an ELR round, this is a great cartridge. Better speed than a .300RUM even. Like a 180 @ 3400-3500+ Sako usually shoots pretty well too. If it is a 1 in 10" with a long throat, the 215-230s would scream out of it. Specs on rifle? Barrel length? Twist rate? Weight? Magazine length? How many pieces of brass? How does it shoot?

Even though I use my 10s more (time wise), I agree, upgrade the 15s. I glass close (up to a mile) first, with my 10s. Then I glass far with my 15s. So I cover a lot more actual real estate with my 15s.

Looks great Joel! I dig it. -
I always shoot Gateway, as that is what my local archery shop carries. I sold the jeep a couple years ago.

Bump. The banquet approaches. -
I used to shoot competitive 3D, even won the Triple Crown back in the early 2000s. I shot a few hundred arrows a week. Had to refletch about every 6 months or so, more from hitting the feathers with subsequent shots on target or by other archers. Feathers deflect off rests if contact is made better than vanes, as they flod easier but spring back to shape. I also think they are much quieter during flight. Shot a 65# compound bow @ 285fps. Shots to 80+ were common, and 100 were not out of the question. I have taken deer, javelina, turkey, Hawaiian sheep, and elk with the same setup. Longest shot on game was 85 uards on a Hawaiian ram, an 80ish yard deer and 75ish pig. All shots were a pass through double lung with cut on contact broadbeads. Don't think that 4" feathers will limit reasonable shot distance due to loss of velocity.

I shoot 4" feathers. Ring wing, hard right helical. Like a fast twist barrel, tjey stabilize a broadhead very quickly. I waterproof them too, and never had an issue. Also, feathers are lighter than vanes.

You would be out less $ to just buy one at Wally World than shipping would be, seriously.

About 200 rounds down the pipe.

Seriously, no one needs a free BB gun for their little girl? (Scope not included of course).

High country or Northern game seem to drop eaier too. The desert bucks seem to start growing lter, and so they shed later from what I have seen. And mature game shed before the younger bucks/bulls.

I helped a few different guys out last year with spots on the condition that they not share that info with others. I am selective on who I share my hard fought places with.
