Sportsman's Warehouse. I had a coupon for 10% off any purchase over $1000, so it made it a no brainer.

I picked up a new Browning Pro-steel safe this weekend. 772# and "40 gun capacity". I thought I made a mistake after I got it to the house and realized it was about 1/2" too big to fit in the door......took off the door and the door stop and it slid right through.

I have seen almost all white elk, and one big bull that was charcoal grey.

Why does hornady load data seem so much lower charge weight?
lancetkenyon replied to apache12's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
A lot of variables. Different chambers, different pressures, different powder lots, different brass makes different case capacity, different seating depth, testing temps, testing elevation, etc. -
Great scope, good price. Just wish it was in MIL.

7mm Rem. Mag & 168gr Berger HVLD loads?
lancetkenyon replied to Hoss50's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
The Ruger M77 magazine is way shorter than n R700 magazine, so if you want a repeater, you have to stuff the bullets in deeper. I have a load that has worked lights out in 3 different Ruger M77 tang safety 7RM rifles. Winchester brass CCI 250 Mag primers 62.0 gr. RL22 168 Berger HVLD. Seated to .0100" shy of mag length. It is a big jump to lands, something like .250", but works great. Good speed, great accuracy in the 3 guns I have loaded for. I will see if I can dig up actual COAL and to ogive. -
Ok suckers...where is this treasure trove?

If your wife is anything like mine, it is gone for good. I call my wife "The Bermuda Wife". Compasses spin, and things go missing forever, never to be seen again. One day, I will find her "I put it in a safe spot" place, and I will again have thousands of items that have been lost over the last 24 years.

Rem 700 long action search
lancetkenyon replied to rnhunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I have done the pawnext shop route for actions before. I have also just picked up a cheap rifle from an individual as long as it has the right bolt face. Or a complete new action only. And even buying a Wally World ADL and sourcing bottom metal elsewhere. It should not be hard to find anew R700 action. Then piece together the rest to your liking. -
That Browning is very similar to the one on my short list. I read a lot of reviews, and Cannon is out. Terrible reviews, and terrible CS when they do.

My house drew one tag. I would lay odds it is my 13 year old daughter Taylor again. If so, it will either be a third in a row bull tag, or more likely, a general cow tag. My older daughter and son-in-law drew elk tags too, so I will be up with them as well. And my cousin drew back-to-back bull tags, so probably up with him too!

Pedometer? Or get a handheld GPS.

Picked up the rifle and reloading components from Brian today. Still owe him for the scope, but I will be starting load development on it very soon, like 3 hours ago. Look for new thread about it soon once I pick up the scope and start shooting.

If you ever get down to the Valley and want to look through mine before you buy one, let me know. If it is on a weekend, we can even meet at the range for you to try it out.

Some people will complain about being hanged with a new rope..... I haven't had a bull tag since 1999. But I haven't had a pronghorn tag since 1971.

Sportsman's in Phoenix have a bunch on the rack. Pretty nice looking guns. They weigh about the same as any other medium sporter weight rifle, but have a stiffer barrel. Really no weight savings unless you are comparing them to a Sendero.

The few that I have looked at so far have two shelves at the top side by side that are removable. So for my really long guns I could use one side and remove that top shelf. But good call on looking out for that. Keep the suggestions coming. If I get off work in on time I'm going to check out the safe Outlet and the safe store today. I was looking at the Fatboy jr., and now it seems pretty nice also.

I was looking at the 40 gun, because I figured if I could get half what they advertise in there I would be happy and set for a while.

How were the teeth? Fairly fresh from a young deer or worn flat? From the photos, maybe younger deer? Skull looks decent sized, from the limited reference I can see. I would think young weird muley or old Coues. The eyeguards are more Coueslike... Too bad, he had some awesome character. A lot of the skulls I have found with the front of the nose crushed have been lion kills, buried up under trees or bushes. Did he say where he found it? That might help determine Coues or Muley. Cool pickup rack for sure.

The glass is just as clear as my Schmidt&Bender. I would buy another one in a heartbeat. Great features, zero stop, 2nd revolution indicator, perfect parallax adjustment, knobs have just the right tension, best reticle out there, widest FOV at any given magnification, absolutely perfect tracking, great feel to the turrets, etc.
-
I think the reticle thickness (I assume Mil-r or MOAR?) is fine for a hunting scope. But for shooting tiny dots at distance, it is a bit heavy at 25x. But at 5x, the heavy outer stadia draw your eyes to the center. For a good LR scope with tiny center aim point at longer ranges, the Kahles SKMR is the reticle to beat. And for the price of the ATACR F1, you can get the Kahles K624i. View of reticle on a 100 yard target.

Cabela'so was super easy to see that someone Drew a tag.

My cousin got his card hit today. Back-to-back bull tags for him. He took his first ever elk last Dec.
