Duwane's Hunter Killed a Monster
lancetkenyon replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
Haha! I just watched the video....are you sure that buck wasn't killed 3 days before and they finally found it? That thing is STIFF!!! Holding it's own head up, they have to muscle it around to turn the head..... -
Tag transfer question for anyone with experience.
lancetkenyon replied to TR0UBLE SH00TER's topic in The Campfire
This is correct. A licensed parent or legal guardian has to accompany the minor child, but not necessarily the parent or grandparent that originally drew the tag. My wife drew a tag once and signed it over to my daughter, and I accompanied her in the field to hunt. -
I like my Manfrotto 290 (and 290 XTRA) carbon fiber tripods. Light and sturdy. Manfrotto 700RC2 panhead is small, light, and works well. I like that when fully released, there is very little to no friction. I run my 15x56s on it all day long.

Duwane's Hunter Killed a Monster
lancetkenyon replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
Mixed opinions on this subject and subsequent story. Anyone can fling an arrow (or bullet) and make a poor shot, then want to claim a big buck is "theirs", even though they can't find it again. It is fair game for another hunter. But, if I saw it happen, and watched where it went, I would be the guy that tried to get the hunter's attention and "walk the hunter in" and helped get another attempt at the buck. Not keep the location to myself of asked and then go after the buck when the hunter gave up. But...if I had been actively hunting the buck for days or weeks myself, and saw the event, but the buck was not mortally injured and escaped, it might be a different story. You had your chance, but blew it. My turn now. I have had my share of people trying to obviously beat me to an animal, or take a VERY unrealistic shot in an attempt to either get the animal before I could, or scare it away so I would not get an opportunity at it. Believe me, in those cases, if they made a poor shot and could not locate the animal, and I could, I would be a lot less inclined to help them find it and just wait them out. Call me an asshole if you want, but there are two sides to every story like this. Of course the first hunter wanted to find the buck he hit poorly and could not recover, but got irritated when someone would not help him locate an animal he was incapable of doing so himself. Of course the guide wanted his paying client to get a crack at the buck, even if it was previously poorly hit. -
Stuck Suppressor adapter removal
lancetkenyon replied to RodinAZ's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
This. Had it happen to me a couple weeks ago. TBAC CB too. Cleaned the threads on the rifle and in the CB, applied a drop of red Loctite to the threads and installed. Left it overnight. Next day, came off fine. Cleaned the threads of the CB and can, applied a touch of Froglube paste to the threads and mating surface. I install and remove my cans multiple times weekly. Only happened once in probably 500 install/removals. -
If you want to get the best out of your rifle, and want to shoot something that is not available in a factory loaded ammo (like Hammers, Cutting Edge, Blackjacks, or some of the other better bullets) but don't have the time, knowledge, or equipment to do your own load development, I think they are a viable option. They are not cheap, but you should get the best ammo, for your rifle, that can be had. It is not for everyone. If MOA is good enough for your style of hunting, it might be a waste of money. If you only shoot to 300 yards, again, probably a waste of money. Probably the biggest benefit of custom loaded vs factory ammo is consistency. I have seen factory ammo with 120fps MV variations in a single box. At 300 yards, probably doesn't make much difference. But at 800, it definitely does. The MAIN factory in accuracy is the shooter. A quarter minute rifle in the hands of a 2 MOA shooter becomes a 2 MOA rifle.

Factory ammo uses proprietary powder, not available to the public. You could probably get close to factory performance however with a bit of reloading knowledge in the cartridge. I assume you mean 7RM when you say "7mm". Bullets could be available, depends on what your factory load is.
-
Do you already have a recipe? Or starting from scratch?
-
Should take about 30-50 loads to do full load development. That will get you 50-70 loaded finished rounds. Do it right.

Couple of beanies I got from the AZ Deer Association. Free for a kid. $1000 for an adult. Come get them, bring your kid who will be wearing it. North central Phx area, by Sportsman's Warehouse area.
-
Federal?
-
Honestly, might as well donate them to a kid. I highly doubt anyone is going to pay $60 for those.

WILD turkeys are smart. Domestic turkeys are braindead.

Adding kids to portal and age for bonus points
lancetkenyon replied to dsotm's topic in The Campfire
Have to be legal to hunt (age 10nat the time of the hunt) to build bonus points. Otherwise, I would have already been getting my two granddaughters BPs for the last 2-3 years. -
Were the guys in TX?

Tessa is my hero. Love seeing the young ladies out getting it done! Can't wait to hear the whole story. Did you recover any bullets?
-
Timney are great triggers. I have 4 of the Calvin Elite models, all at 8oz. Crisp, clean, all but one have zero creep. One has just a hair of creep that I cannot get out. Not bad, and on a rifle I don't shoot a lot anyway. Great for loaning to family/friends when we go hunting together. I have had several other 510/512s over the years.
-
Great. Can't wait to shoot it.
-
Screaming deal!!! I just received mine today. Didn't pay that cheap price though! GLWS. Should sell fast for anyone looking.
