Question about Berger Hybrids
lancetkenyon replied to maximus's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
The differences between the hunting VLDs and the Target Hybrids are twofold. The nose profile of the VLDs are a secant ogive design. They can be sensitive to jump, and need a bit of tuning to shoot their best. The Hybrids are a hybrid design between a secant and tangent ogive shape. Easier to tune, and not nearly as jump sensitive. The jacket thickness between the hunting and target bullets is the other difference. The target bullets have a slightly thicker jacket than the hunting lines. To me, that translates to them holding together a touch better on impact. The 215 Hybrids are probably one of the best .30 cal bullets you could use for a hunting rifle in my opinion and experience if you can push and spin them fast enough. I have heard of people using them in .308Win, but I think they are much better suited for the .300WSM/.300WM and up capacity cases. -
Nice 5x bull. 🤣 Good shot placement Sean. I remember the story well. 210s did not perform for you. Multiple well paced shots. Across a vast chase. Glad you finally anchored him. Sean is good people. Tim is good people.

Depends on how fast you run them. I shoot the 215 and 230s in my .300RUM @ 3100+. Have 1st round hits on coyotes out to 1365.
-
Excellent. From coyotes to Coues to Mulies to black bears to bull elk to moose.
-
Amazing story! Thanks for the photo. That is a great trophy.

Sectional density, higher BC for retained energy on game at distance, retained bullet weight on game after expansion.

.338WM is a case the same size as the 7RM. I sure wish it was a .300WM case size. .338WM, to push a 250gr bullet, really suffers in velocity. A 300 grain bullet is even slower. Making a .300WM pushing a 230 a much more viable option for LR shooting.

This is a new reloading method I have not heard of. So you neck size, seat the bullet long, crimp, and then chamber the round and still get the bullet to seat deeper? How hard does the bolt close?
-
So what happens when you have to eject an unfired round and you pull the bolt back and leave the bullet stuck in the lands?
-
4 years? Really? Unless you had other BPs built up, good luck. Honestly, a late tag is usually a 12+ year wait. You hear about people pulling one around 7 BPs, but not often. Then there are those lucky suckers that draw with 1-4 BPs, but those are rare at best. I have NEVER had a late tag, with up to 10 BPs. But, I am determined that a late 12A tag WILL be my next deer tag. I had 8BPs this year and really had no expectations of drawing. Which I didn't.

Kill a brute Kenny. Send pics!

I know him too. Good guy for sure. Such a good guy in fact, I almost ordered one just to let him borrow it if I could have gotten it in time.
-
If you order from Midway and get next day air, you can have it by Thursday.
-
You have to have a hand loader press?
-
Great buck!

Surprisingly, I know 4 guys who had the archery hunts, 5 guys that had 12AE or 12AW early rifle hunts, and have not heard a peep from any of the rifle hunters. I know a few who have the late hunts too.

Awesome video. You could see your adrenalin spike after the shot!

I use a lot of ADG brass. Very good stuff. Never, ever, just load up a different recipe without starting low and working up.

3000 shots? New string time. New limbs?
-
And save a ton of money!!!

Eric is OK.....😄 I guess if he ever built me a bad rifle, I would quit going back again....and again....and again....
