Right now, Prois (women's hunting clothing) is having screaming deals on 2017 closeouts. High quality gear. -

Which directions do you glass?

All. -
Which model? I was sent a Midas BTR from a supplier to test out. It did not track or return to zero. Not even close. Sent it in, Athlon sent a new one out. The new one did the same thing.

Long range varies person to person. I used to think 200 yards was long range, and passed a lot of shots when I was younger. I have my own personal limits for big game. Coyotes are a different story. I will shoot them at any range. I have three over 1300.

14x is plenty to shoot twice your desired distance, especially at big game sized targets. And 500 yards with a Creedmoor is only going to have somewhere around 7-8MOA up if shooting a 140 Berger @ 2800. If I remember correctly, the VX3i 4.5-14 is a 15 MOA turret, so you will still oy be a half turn. You should still be in the 1st revolution out to 700-750 depending on conditions.

My son-in-law swears I missed a coyote @ 20 yards with my 7RM. Personally, I think the 168 Barnes went right on through. Watched him run and stumble once, but kept going. I followed him for about 500 yards in the 3" of fresh snow, and saw a couple more stumbles, but never found him. Not a drop of blood either. I have missed more turkeys from 10-60 yards with my bow than all other game combined (except wingshooting and upland hunting). Missed a great muley buck @ 50 yards with my bow, when he dropped down on his knees to get a drink right as I released. That one STILL haunts me, and that was 20 years ago. Yet I took a decent buck @ 82 the following day. I have shot and not recovered plenty of doves. Stupid cotton fields....

Deer will be high, low, and everywhere in between unless we get a freak super heavy snow prior. Weather could be sunny and warm, cold & windy, rainy, or snow. Be prepared for everything. If the kid can shoot between 50-200 yards, you should put a deer in the freezer. Does are plentiful up there, but they can be very skittish. Try to pick one with no fawns with them.

Yeah. My son-in-law drew a 21 early coues, and a turkey tag in either 7 or 6a.

Nothing yet in my household...

How about a javalina @ 18 yards by an 11 years old?

637 yards. One and done, DRT. Shot by an experienced long range shooter at the ripe old age of 14. With a known rifle and load workup. 662 yards. One and done. Went maybe 50 yards. Bullet placement was within 1" of POA.

Shout Out to Lance Kenyon

Seriously, my pleasure in answering the questions I can help with. That "unlimited questions" deal was a good one. And I got some good laughs reading this right now too. Accuracy counts for shotguns as much as for rifles.... -

I have had good luck with RL22, RL23, RL26, and of course, H1000. My personal load is a 180 Hybrid over 69.0gr. H1000 @ 2996fps. -
Good Lord....What Is Wrong With ME???
lancetkenyon replied to lancetkenyon's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
If you haven't looked through a Tangent Theta, I can't explain it. Think Premier, or Hensoldt, or S&B....but clearer. Yes ...that clear. Color/contrast/depth of field/lack of CA are best available. Tracking is perfection. Turrets...amazing. 27oz is not too bad for an absolutely top end FFP illuminated reticle scope. Compact. Low profile turrets. Zero stop. Second rotation indicator. Windage direction indicator. Illuminated reticle. MIL/MIL or MOA/MOA available. 12MIL will get me past 1250 yards with a 105-115 bullet @ 3000fps. Plenty for hunting. -
So does Europtic of you ask for Jason Baney.

So, with 26 full days of scouting, and only seeing 4 mature bulls, I pulled the trigger on opening evening on one of the best bulls I had seen in the area I was hunting. 6x7 mature bull. I know of a couple bigger ones that were being pursued, but not many out there. I am thrilled with the bull I took, and with family and my 2 best hunting buddies present. Taylor and my cousin, Leon.

No need to have the reticle to use the rangefinder and vice versa.
