    New 6.5 SLR Build

I recently swapped scopes on my 6.5SLR to a Kahles K624i with the SKMR reticle. Well, today, I dropped some SERIOUS coin and installed an 18-72x56 Kahles tripler on the rig! Talk about a precision setup now! So the new setup cost me ¢1800 to get that kind of power, I think it is money well spent. Amazing glass for the price. 6-24x56 (plus 3X Zoomies glasses)= 18-72x56!!! Available at most local Walgreens stores for those who are interested in true precision long range shooting. I sent this last one to my brother.....not aimed at you guys here.

Magnifier on sight in AZ, legal or not?

I used to run one, and I know a few guys who run their target scopes on their hunting bows too. The only issue I had was dust or moisture on the lens making it hard to see through, or shooting towards the sun and getting glare.

    Powder at Bruno's

Depending on what time you were in Bruno's on Saturday, I might have seen you. I was in about 11:00AM.

    Our thieves up date

What a douche!!! Let alone driving off road for reasons other than retrieving game, but to knowingly do so and park right next to someone's game camera and hunting spot???

    Unit 7E

I like the north slopes of SF peaks for the early archery hunts, but be prepared to do a lot of hiking. Congrats on the tag, and good luck.

    QUESTION

Should fit, but you will need a gunsmith to do it unless you have experience. Need to open up the stock to fit the bigger profile barrel, and definitely need to check headspacing once it is spun on to ensure safe shooting conditions. Also, make sure the bolt face matches between your old cartridge and new one if it is not the same round being used.

    Powder at Bruno's

Depends on which guy. It is a family run business, and when I am in there, I can tell who the siblings are by listening to them. Sounds like my sister and I squabbling at times. But, if you actually get to know them, they are all pretty friendly. I get a smile and greeted by name when I walk in each time. They have even called me out of the blue when an item came in that I had been looking for for over a year. No waiting list, they just remembered I was looking for it, and knew my first name. Looked me up in their customer list and called me. How is THAT for customer service??? Here is the kicker. I am not making excuses for poor customer service to the average shopper. Service is king in a market where everyone sells the same stuff. But.....This is not the type of shop for Joe Blow who knows nothing about reloading to go into. With a very limited staff, and as busy as they are with other customers (internet, phone, in store), they have a hard time spending 15 minutes going over every powder/bullet option if the customer has not done their own research. I go in and peruse the shelves, and pick up what I know I want. I hear tons of people in there with questions like "which powders work best for my .30-06?" Way too may variables to that answer: Intended use? Bullet brand? Bullet weight? Location? Temp sensitive? Barrel length? Etc. to give an all-in-one answer. And one man's opinion is going to be different than the next guy. Do your research BEFORE you get there and have at least an idea of what you want. Again, I love Bruno's. No nonsense, and usually has a plethora of items in stock that no one else has. You pay a bit more, but not a ton, and not on every item. I just bought another member some powder at Sportsman's this week and paid $30 per pound that he could not find on the east side. Berger & Sierra bullets are usually $1-4/box cheaper than anywhere else.

    Who drew antelope tags??

While I had 23 BPs and did not draw, I am honestly thrilled to hear that a 10 year old Jr. drew wit no points!!! Hunting with your kids is amazing. Best of luck on the hunt, and make sure you document the whole journey, not just the hunt, but the preparation prior to the hunt as well. Awesome!!!

25-06 ???? Best all around bullet

100gr. TTSX put this buck down at 488 yards. I don;t even think he knew he was shot. Stood for about 10 seconds then toppled over backwards without a twitch. Bullet entered right front quarter, exited left hip. Not a drop of blood except a dribble from his mouth. 115 Berger HVLD put this buck down 152' from the previous one from 160 yards. Buck went all of 10' in 2 seconds and crashed without a kick. Entered right shoulder/neck junction and exited left ribs. Blood trail that Stevie Wonder could follow.

Why were some unit hunt dates pushed back a month

Because they new I was not going to draw a tag anyway.....
  15. So Flatlander thinks I have a legitimate chance at drawing an antelope tag this year with 23 bonus points, so I have already started my scouting this year. But I have some questions for those who have hunted them before. The only time I have ever hunted antelope is with a buddy in Wyoming. He bought a new truck in Montana, and the Ford dealership was giving away a 2 day antelope hunt in Wyoming as incentive, so we flew up, picked up the truck and drove back, stopping in Wyoming to archery hunt goats. My buddy got two, and I got one, but it was like rabbit hunting out there. They are just everywhere. I have never been drawn in AZ for antelope, so I want to start all of the research I can, and scout a ton, even before the applications are due and results are up. It is never too early to start. And if I DON"T get drawn this year, I would love to help out a fellow member that draws my lucky tag. So onto the questions: 1. Do antelope migrate like deer/elk from a winter to summer range? It seems like I see antelope in the same general area from late winter to very late fall, even into the snow. I have seen what appears to be the same antelope in the same 1 mile radius from January to December, and this has been in various units, from high desert to 6000'+ AMSL. 2. When do antelope shed their sheaths? Are they still growing their horns back at this time of the year? I saw a couple beauties up north this weekend, and another member said they are still growing right now. I sure hope so, because the few decent ones I glassed should be toads in another couple months if that is the case. 3. How far do antelope stray from water? All of the goats I saw were within a mile of a year round water source. 4. Antelope are 90% diurnal, correct? Even the bigger bucks, unlike deer and elk that go almost nocturnal as they get mature and smart? I know they will bed throughout the day, but I always see them getting up and grazing throughout the day. I also usually see them bedded at first light, and then they start moving. Or am I just catching them moving at the right times? I have glassed up tons of antelope with just their heads up while bedded at first light, or even middle of the day between grazing. 5. Hunting tactics. Do most successful rifle hunters sit near (relatively speaking) tanks, or glass/spot and stalk? I know most archery hunters sit near water. That is what we did in Wyoming, and it seems like most of the videos I have seen are the same. I am sure I will be revisiting this thread with more questions as the year progresses, so thank you in advance. I got a few photos of some decent bucks, but they were about 1500 yards, and I did not need to get closer this weekend.

Pronghorn Questions From A Hopeful Goat Hunter

Not your fault. I just suck at the drawing of tags. I am thrilled I get to go with my cousin again, and that my wife drew the same tag as my daughter did last year. I am 95% sure she will donate the tag to Taylor unless I can convince her to try it for herself. I guess I get to keep an eye on them for another year.....

PCR suggestion here too. They built my 6.5 SLR, and holy cow is it nice work and super accurate! Waiting on a barrel to come in, and they will be tuning up my .300RUM soon too.
