  1. I have a Proof Research 28" SS .257" bore, 1:7.5" 5 groove Competition contour blank for sale.

    Going a different route now.

This twist will stabilize up to the Berget 135 LR Hyb, 133 Elite Hunter, or 131 Blackjack Ace in 25x47L and up.  I run a 1:7.5" in my current 25SST with fantastic results.

$380 shipped, or $360 FTF in north central Phoenix area. (I-17 & 101)

  2. Interesting.  Was at the range today, and a guy 2 benches down had the same issue with his new Fierce 28 Nosler and factory Nosler ammo.  Barely able to lift the bolt with two hands, major case head swipes, flattened and cratered primers, soot all over the case head.

  3. A 400 yard shot, dialing approximately 4MOA, would NOT cause a 4-5' miss OVER an animal.  Even if the LRF showed 400 yards and 4MOA, and the deer was actually 100 yards, you are talking 4-6" high.  And if you verified zero at camp afterwards.

And not with TWO different rifles having the same issue.  As we discussed, I still think it is a suppressor issue.  That is a common denominator in both cases.  The only other one is the LRF, but if you only dialed about 4MOA, that almost eliminates the LRF possibility.

I will be at Joe Foss on Saturday.  Come out and we will check it.  I will bring a bore scope to look for baffle strike.  Highly unlikely you had two scopes go bad in the exact same way (has to be a tracking issue), but not impossible.

You didn't happen to hit some sort of object out of the barrel did you?  Or have the barrel/suppressor touching an object?  To hit it 4-5 times doesn't sound likely, but you never know.

That's a dick thing to say champ.

Really?  Hoping someone mitigates the loss is a "dick thing to say"?

Losing a $250 rifle sure would be easier to handle than a $5k custom.

To the OP, I hope it gets returned.  There are good people out there.  Too bad it is only about 10% of us.

  5. I heard of guys on the early hunt seeing 200" bucks, but they were tough to hunt.  I did not see many brutes taken.

I bet the big Magnum burn really changed the landscape up there. Meaning relearning the unit on the west side.  In another 2-5 years, watch what happens if we get the moisture going like the late summer rains we had.  Came too late for the northern units, but the desert units will probably be great this year.

Not to sound harsh, but a lot of the guides are using "Detroit Blinds" almost exclusively.  If the bucks are in the transition, those guides won't be seeing them.  Also, with most tanks holding water, the bucks are spread out instead of congregating to the GFD trick tanks like the last few years. Thus, saying the unit sucks.

I would bet the late hunt is going to be a different story if the bucks keep moving down.

  6. As a purely killing numbers choice (velocity, energy, BC, bullet weight)...

    .300WM, hands down.

Way more options for factory rifle choices, bullet weight availability for reloading, better brass choices, 30x more factory ammo options, and for hunting over 600 yards, unless you are handloading the 170 Berger in a custom fast twist barrel, there is no comparison.  For larger big game, a much better option.

The .270 Win is perfectly capable of taking elk and moose out to reasonable distances.  With less recoil.  And for handloading, much less powder consumption.  At lower costs.

So you ordered twice the limit for a rifle you don’t have? You sir are why we can’t have nice things🤨

Jealous?  You don't know him.  He and I have been discussing a new rifle for a while, and .280AI has been on the very short list.

Who DOESN'T buy components BEFORE building a rifle these days?  I know of several guys that built rifles, and now can't get components.  So they can't shoot their new toys.

I have 3 rifles that are not built yet, but have had components stocked up waiting for them for up to 10 months already.

Guess you can throw me on the list of "why we can't have nice things" too, or better yet, "Glad I got components ahead of time so I can shoot when my nice things are ready".

And "twice the limit" would be ordering 10 boxes of 50 each.  Or.....wait for it....ONE bulk pack of 500........😉

Considering his daughter has a .280AI that uses Peterson brass, I think this was a smart buy.
