I spoke to my vet recently about getting one of my dogs snake vaccinated. He said if your dog is hit by a rattler, its still a trip to the ER and a very poor prognosis. For less money and safer results, get the dog into a snake avoidance class.

This is one reason why cistern are generally placed below ground and preferably; if possible, located at an elevation above the homes highest water outlet..ie, shower head. This way even with no power, cistern can be filled and home always has water flow. But to your original question, I have had the Harbor Freight pump and motor, worked good. I currently run Honda motors on Keene trash pumps, hard to beat.

Without knowing how your cistern is situated, wouldn't be possible to ramp up the approach to the cistern via your truck and let gravity drain the trucks water tank?

I estimated the rear pad was about 5" wide. I tried and tried to take a pic but my camera and I are strangers. The folks downstream were non too happy with the bear, having young kids there on the claim. Reckon the parents had enough on their plate keeping the kids away from rattlesnakes and quicksand. We're in the bears yard I know, but maybe somebody with hounds could chase some sense into him

A good read for sure. Portions of IA borns post reminds me of a neighbor lady got bit on the web of her thumb by a small, young diamondback. She was doing yard work and grabbed it thinking it was a twig. The doc at the ER gave her no treatment but observed the swelling and red travel up her arm over several hours. She got bored and went home.

I've seen a few big, big rattlers, I try to give them a pass. Desert courtesy, I suppose.

I think it's a Speckled or Mojave. I actually quite like snakes, they give me a primal jolt every time. Rattlesnakes are a wonder of evolution. But it's impossible for me to coexist with them. My mining claim is remote, several hours from a paved road. I can't afford a bite.

Or if they're blocking access to a mineral claim, no can do. .
