    Update on a Cool Find

After Googling the name on the dog tag I found, I was given several phone numbers, addresses and possible family members. I sent a photo of the dog tag to the cell numbers associated with the veterans name. About a week later, I got a response simply asking "Who is this?" After an explanation I was told that I had indeed located the next of kin. The vets widow, son and daughter in law were living in the same home. When I asked the daughter in law how the tag might have ended up out there in Morristown where I unearthed it. Back 60 years ago, the hotel there was also a general store, post office and had a Texaco garage. Sp4 Jarvis and wife were living in Sun City. He loved trains and since the old hotel was only a few hundred feet from the railroad tracks, he could take photos of the trains while having his car serviced. The tag arrived at his sons and widows home yesterday, this Memorial day weekend. Y'all have a good weekend and remember the reason we have a 3 day weekend.

    Update on a Cool Find

I don't know what became of my father's dog tags or service medals. I do have what the federal government gave my grandmother. The anchor and star when dad enlisted 1944, and the Exellence in war time production medal.

    ANY FARMERS OR IRRIGATORS ????

First figure out what animals you're going to be raising so you can meet their nutritional needs. Cattle can digest hay that horses would never want, including forage fraught weeds and mold. The root systems on a lot of annuals like alfalfa and crested wheat need a year after planting to become established. Talk to locals concerning dryland vs irrigation. It's not so much the summer rains as it is the blanket of snow that determines soil moisture content. All the expense of irrigation for one more cutting? You're a smart guy, you'll figure it out. Appreciate ya.

    ANY FARMERS OR IRRIGATORS ????

Where is the land and what elevation? What are you wanting to plant and ultimately feed? In a wet year you can get two cuttings of alfalfa and by planting the dry land strain but the first cutting is too rich for equines. Beauty of it is, no irrigating, no leveling the land for flood and no well and pumping costs. Crested wheat makes a great permanent pasture as well as alfalfa for cattle and equines and is an annual. Cut and put up, equines can graze on the secondary growth

    Cool find

Well put. My home was broken into many years ago. Among the items stolen, a small amount of gold, some cash and my dog tags. Wish I had the dog tags back. I know my daughter would have liked to have them.

    Cool find

Last week while raking behind the old 1899 hotel on US60, I found these early Vietnam Era dog tags. Thanks to the internet, minutes later, found this. Next, to find a living relative of this man and return them. RIP SP4 H. Jarvis, thank you for your service.

    Another early monsoon?

The Jet Stream is the main weather influencer in the nothern hemisphere. If scientists can get a handle on predicting its path, half the climate puzzle is solved. The western hemisphere only became aware of the Jet Stream less than 80 years ago when U.S. bombers flying towards targets over Japan hit the force of the atmospheric River head on.
