Is it slow going in and out of 4wd? I believe the hub servos are vacuum assisted too. The vacuum can on my Super Duty was replaced by the previous owner and it's too small. When vacuum is low like when accelerating, the defrost vent opens until the vacuum returns.

This sounds similar to a vacuum issue. But the defrost vent is the default position in my older Ford.

Been that way awhile. My 04 Ford had two injection modules fry due to cheap construction.
