Guessing it was a pellet smoker such as Treager, Camp Chef? I spritz apple juice on ribs towards the end of the cook. Did you do something similar with these. They look fantastic and I am interested in trying.

Not sure if this is what you are interested in but it is still available and negotiable.

Impressive!! Great effort to all.

Redman, and all who have replied, I appreciate all of the advice and feedback. This site is my "go-to" source for lots of info. Trailer weight is 5600lbs. dry Tongue weight with H2O and Propane is 335lbs. Cargo Carry Capacity for the trailer is 1530lbs. So based on everything I have learned both here and thru talking with distributors, I am going with a 600lb. tongue weight WDH w/sway control. Mostly for sway control. I've been made very generous offers (thx guys) for WHD's with heavier weight loads. Have learned that for how lite my rig is a heavier WHD will increase the potential of destroying the a-frame tongue of the trailer by putting too much stress on it, especially being 14 years old.

No, haven't bought anything. After chatting with several guys I am not going to get anything right away. My biggest concern was sway control more than weight distribution. And that is mainly for the comfort of my wife when she will be pulling it.

Not strange but odd. Found a very old rifle barrel sticking out of the sand in a wash in 21. Dug it out and there was more than just the barrel. The receiver was attached. Was a level action with side-load chamber. Super heavy, very rusted, no wood. Definitely a rifle from way back but not sure what kind or from when. Hanging in my garage now.

Elkman - sent you a pm.

Great info. The issue I didn’t mention or state is that I am concerned about sway control also. I understand what you guys are saying about weight distribution with the size and weight of the trailer versus the truck. I also want to make sure that there are minimal sway control issues, especially if the wife has to tow the trailer at any point. One bad issue with the trailer swaying back-and-forth while she is pulling equals a bad situation. So, that being said, should I just get a WDH with sway control and have overkill and avoid most chances of a white knuckle experience?

Dang crappy way to start an Elk hunt. They're lucky to have been pulled out of there so quickly. Sure would like to know more details. Many a time I've pulled off the side of the road late at night before arriving to my end destination.

The time has come to move up to a bumper pull trailer and put the pop-up out to pasture. I've been doing some research and been trolling Craigslist for a long time now. Looking for a used 21' - 26' trailer within the $12K range. Pulling it with a RAM Cummins so weight does not really concern me in that length of trailer. I have narrowed down the choices to a NASH or Artic Fox. I'm concerned about the quality of most newer trailers. For those of you who have had or still own a bumper pull, am I missing a brand out there that is still decent quality?

Update - thanks for all of the advice. Did me well when looking at used rigs. Pulled the trigger on a 23' Skyline. A bit out of the age range I was looking for but the price it is worth it and enough room for the Mrs. & I as our step-up rig. Doesn't need much other than a spring over conversion and a new to us "bathroom sitter". 4800lbs dry so I figured a weight dist/sway control hitch should be something to consider after I replace the bearings and get D load range tires. 1999 Coleman Utah popup is about to be on the classifieds. I'll write up an ad soon with the good, bad, and ugly. I've always been 100 transparent on stuff I sell. No hidden B/S from me. Good karma has always done me right.

Flatlander - Interesting on the Nomad. I've been in touch with a couple that has a 2013 23' Nomad Joey w/slide and walk around queen bed and are asking well under $12K. If I can get them to accept an offer under $10K I will pull the trigger on that one. Any issues or challenges with your Nomad that I could benefit from knowing about when I look at this Joey again?
