CMC The kids and I had a great time at the camp this year. We learned a lot from going out with the mentors and had some good opportunities to bag a buck. Thanks to you and all the volunteers that busted their butts to make the camp possible. Game and Fish and all the sponsors deserve a big thank you as well. Our mentors ( Brian, Norman, Payson and Tom) were glassing machines and found more deer than I thought existed. They shared a lot of knowledge, this helped us connect on a nice little 3x3 on Tuesday morning.

Great experience when you get it done together. Congrats.

Hey guys, I've got 2 jr hunters with just 2 days to hunt javelin ( starting tomorrow) . Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. I'm a little familiar with 34A from a recent hunt, but that's about it. Thanks Jim

Thx BC. Just got settled in at our camp and trying to get my 12 yo to rest up. Hoping to bag a muley down in 34A. It's any antlered but he shot a little coues last year. Both kids have a javelina tag as well. This new early Jr hunt is sweet.

Anti-rain dance lessons or how to hunt in wet "desert" advice
no worries posted a topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Ok. I know we live in the desert and should love the rain and all, but I could sure use a little drying out before next weeks Jr. rifle hunt. My 12 year old has unit 34A and it's getting pounded. Any advice on how to hunt deer when the unit is this wet ? ( besides having rain gear lol) -
Friend of mine shot this guy last rifle season.

Just curious, taking both the kids hunting again this year and they are pretty stoked. Lots of pre hunt talk about what they would shoot and what they are going to pass up. Seems like we start the hunt thinking we are passing up anything short of a monster buck and as we come to grips with reality we become less selective. ( Closing time syndrome. ) With kids, it's pretty hard to pass up a small buck and not fill their tag. What approach do you guys take? Has it worked?

I've never had much interest in sheep, but it was really cool to watch a herd today. First time for me. Just outside of Greer this afternoon there was a herd of 16. One decent looking ram in the group. Tried to get pics of him but the IPhone wasn't cooperating, the background was to dark. I sat there for 30 minutes and watched them at 100 yards or so. Great way to spend some time.

If and when do you lower your standards?

Thanks everyone for the replies. Enjoyed the funny ones too. Both my kids were fortunate last year to tag out on a couple of little coues and get that "first deer" under their belt. Of course they want to top last year, but it's really going to depend on what we are seeing, how much time is left and the weather forecast. I'll leave the choice up to them (and hope the first buck is a shooter). -
Bought this last fall from Sportsman and never fired it ( $750 plus tax). Still in the original box. T3 model with 24 inch barrel. Comes with an extra unused magazine ($50 from Tikka). Black synthetic stock. These are great lightweight rifles. I have two other Tikkas and both shoot 3/4 MOA or better with hand loads. I'll post pics in the next couple of days. Thanks, Jim text me at 520 349-2926 (NW Tucson area)
