    Licensing question for the "experts"

My daughter went to Creighton University in Omaha Neb. It is a private school and tuition is the same for everyone resident or non-resident. I called G&F and they told me she could still apply as a resident if she was a full-time student. I only bought her points while she was gone so we never had an actual tag. Now she lives in NM and I wish I would have purchased her a lifetime license before she left. I recommend you call G&F and get your questions answered.

    done growing?

Look at her big ol' belly. Looks like she was going to drop at any moment. I always thought they stopped growing at end of July or beginning of August even though the last month of growing is not very apparent. The last two weeks of August is when I see the majority rub their horns hard.

"Boom" Maybe a 2 week adventure..

(Military service was the only time i was denied, but I figured a way around that after the first year hahaha) Been told after hiring-on "You can't take the time off, we are to busy" "I'm the boss and I dont get time off" etc... sorry for your luck Boss-man, but I'm taking deer season, if I have a job when it's over and i come back may be a different story, but I was looking for a job when I walked through your doors anyway... Life is to short to not Hunt..." One-shot When I decided to become a High School teacher I knew there would be some trade offs. I love my job but it sucks when it comes to taking time off for hunting. I have always been jealous of people who take the entire season off. I tell my friends, I would gladly trade my 2 months off in the summer for 2 weeks off in the fall. I usually try to apply for hunts that take place during long weekends, thanksgiving or Christmas break. The district I work in gives us 10 discretionary days a year. If we want to take 2 or more consecutive days we need to get signed permission from principal. He has been supportive and understands hunting is my passion but I don't abuse this. He once told be the first 5 are a gimmie after that it is a case by case bases. As an educator I feel guilty when I am away from my classes because I know what happens when we have a sub. I work with a few teachers who use all their discretionary days each year and technically that is their right but as a professional educator I try to be in the classroom as much as I can. This year I drew an early archery bull tag. I will hunt the first friday-sunday, go back to work and then hunt the last sat-thursday. If I kill early I will come back to work sooner and cancel days off. Only 1 time in my 21 years of teaching have I requested for an entire week off. This was about 8 or 9 years ago. On the drive up I got kidney stones and my buddy had to take me to the emergency room at flagstaff hospital. I spent the entire first day of my hunt in that hospital. They wanted me to stay but I said get me out of here because I have an elk hunt. I did not pass the stones until Thursday morning and it was not a pretty sight. For about 6 days I would be good for a few hours and then they would shift and I would be in excruciating pain anywhere from 20 minutes to 3 hours. My fellow teachers told me that is what happens when you request time off. I also agree that life is too short and everyone should try to squeeze as much out of it as they can. Good Hunting! John

If you got the time & energy, go for it. Each persons circumstances are different. I know my job would not allow me the time off. Have fun and make the most of it.

    Fishing Outfit Rant

Tough situation all the way around. You did what was most important and took care of our family. I believe everyone would have made the phone call to the fishing outfit to see if they could refund due to the circumstances. You tried, didn't work out and now time to move on. Paying for something you never received is a hard pill to swallow. A situation like this reminds me of why I supported G&F and there tag surrender program where you could reclaim your bonus points. Stuff like this happens all the time and in the past people were just out of luck. Now there is a way to recoup your points with point guard. Life happens and it is nice to know in some cases there are ways to lesson the sting of an unfortunate situation. Glad to hear your family is safe and sound.

Hunts for Heros, Point Guard, and CC Update Deadline

nope you must purchase point guard in order to keep points
  9. I hope you find it and work out a deal to get it back. I sold my 6" blue colt python when I was in college back in the 80's because I needed money. One of the worst decisions I ever made.

    2017 Buffalo House Rock Ranch

I'm with GreyGhost on this one and will continue to only buy points until they get this straightened out. Too many bad stories for me to jump into the mix. On a side note. I was recently told a story about an older gentleman who lives in the Showlow area and he came across someone who blocked a forest service road. Not sure how it all went down but the road blocker ended up having to hire someone to pull his truck out of a canyon. Anyone who blocks a road is just asking for trouble in my opinion. I am also a true believer in first come first served no matter if you are DIY or someone with deep pockets and pay someone to find your animals for you. Sorry to hear about your experience. I'm sure when you were planning and dreaming about your hunt you did not have all this BS in mind. Thanks for the update

    Monday Check in

Started last week @ 218. Three knee surgeries and 53 years of life limit me to walking, the eliptical and weights. Goal is 175 my Sept. 14 when I leave for my early archery hunt. Hardest part me is the diet and eating clean. Was never much of a beer drinker but I love mexican food.

    Family - horses - Mountains

Back in August of 93 I got bucked off of a young horse my father had just purchased on that very trail. While I have fallen off many times this was the first and only time I over got bucked off. The man who witnessed it said he thought he was walking up on a dead man because he never saw someone take a fall like that before. My back was jacked-up for about 4 years because of it. The horse ending up throwing my dad a few months later so he sold it to some rancher in Idaho. I will admit, that looks like a whole lot more fun than I am having.

    Heads Up! Again

McCain and Flake neocons? Now that is funny. I Can't remember the last time he was accused of even slightly resembling a conservative. Throughout McCain's career he has been criticized for being a RINO. I also agree that he has taught Flake everything he knows.

    Setting Up the Camera

I like to go through this topic every once in a while just to refresh my memory. Some good information is given. I haven't put out cameras in a couple years since I had 3 stolen over a 1 month period. None were within 200 yards of water but all were taken during shed hunting season. I am not going to put cameras out this year until middle of June then pick up before the archery deer opener.

    FS 300 Rim Road

I use to take my kids to 4a for Jr. turkey and forest service always opened 300 rd 1 or 2 days before the opener. I once drove in during the middle of the night and got stuck in a snowdrift while pulling a trailer. Took 8 hours to dig out.

    Half way there.

A bad year in Missouri is better than a great year in AZ.
  23. Does anyone have the original list of leftover tags from spring draw for turkey/javelina? thanks

    Point Guard

I was always surprised at how many did not go on the hunts they had drawn. We used to hunt 17a rifle deer and I can remember 7-10 percent of tags issued were not used each year. I always chalked it up to "life happens". Stuff comes up and you just can't go for one reason or another. The rumor of anti-hunters drawing and not using tags has been around for decades but I have never seen proof of it. Once they required the purchase of a hunting license in order apply probably made any anti's stop applying if they had been. No way they are giving money to G&F. I like point guard for such "life happening" events. I also like that it can only be used once before you lose all points on 2nd time. congratulations to all that drew a tag this year.
