I was always surprised at how many did not go on the hunts they had drawn. We used to hunt 17a rifle deer and I can remember 7-10 percent of tags issued were not used each year. I always chalked it up to "life happens". Stuff comes up and you just can't go for one reason or another. The rumor of anti-hunters drawing and not using tags has been around for decades but I have never seen proof of it. Once they required the purchase of a hunting license in order apply probably made any anti's stop applying if they had been. No way they are giving money to G&F. I like point guard for such "life happening" events. I also like that it can only be used once before you lose all points on 2nd time. congratulations to all that drew a tag this year.

that explains it. I'm satisfied now.

Do we need to keep guessing? Since the people that know about this are not inclined to give out out information, is there a link to an article or name we can search to find out more information on our own?

Good luck on San Carlos hunt. I have the 2nd hunt and hope you boys leave a few not so smart birds.

As a former computer programmer I can tell you what programming 101 instructor told the class back in 1983. Computers are only as smart as the person who built it, programmed it and entered the information into it. They only do what they are instructed to do. This is very interesting to see because every year I hear of a story like this but I never believe it. I figure somebody fat fingered their selection, couldn't remember what they put in for or were lying. Looking at the selection choices, I find it odd that an early rifle hunt was put down as a 4th choice. I haven't put a 3-5 choice down in years and many times put the same choice as my first and second. If G&F gave an explanation, I would like to hear it in a PM.

South of 260 towards fossil springs also hold sheep.

possibly. I have a satin frame with 14" .223 and 14" 7mm TCU. Stainless scope, hammer extension, 7mm TCU brass, aprox 30 loaded rounds & uncle mikes shoulder holster. I have not shot it in 10 years or more. It just sits in my gun case. I honestly do not know what it is worth so I would have to do some research. john north peoria 623-680-4458

If you have a child or grand child that is a minor and can hunt why not apply with them for any hunt you think they might enjoy? Buy point guard. If you get drawn, turn in your tag and get your points back plus a point for this year. Then go enjoy hunting with your family. You are most likely not going to draw a primo unit 9 or 23 early rifle with 19 points this year anyway. My recommendation allows you to use your points twice rather than once. Get the most value for your points that you can. When you do draw, I recommend you treat yourself to the hunt of lifetime. If that means hiring a guide or taking the entire season off for a DIY, then do it. You earned it and the time & money saved over all these years justifies treating yourself well. Good luck & Good Hunting

Never heard of it. I work just up the road at 83rd and Peoria nice to know there are other options.

Just like when you travel out of the country. Call your financial institution in advance and tell them you are expecting charges from Arizona Game and fish. My credit union makes a note of this and it is in my file.

A question to all who support wildlife groups

I would agree with Hunt Harder. The odds need to be reasonable. If they aren't reasonable, no way I am buying. How about a raffle for a life time AZ hunt & fish license? $500- $1000 gift cards to Cabelas, sportsmans warehouse or even Amazon. Out of state hunts or in state lion & bear hunts. I rarely buy gun raffles as I have more guns than I need already as I rarely hunt with a gun anymore. I have bought optics & Quality Cooler raffle tickets in the past even though I already have good glass and don't need anything else. I guess it depends on the mood I am in at the time. I imagine right now would be a great time to hold a raffle because everyone is feeling optimistic about the up coming elk/antelope draw. Good Luck -
Just curious. When you scored him before Marvin, what score did you come up with? How close were you?

My story is much like yours. An HOA that sucks and a mild case of hoarding in my part. I have a lot of stuff I no longer use and would like to get rid of. Too much to list but it would be priced right.

I ran in to him a week ago sunday at Ben Avery shooting range. He was re-sighting in his gun because he took a nasty fall while on his hunt. Head over heal on the side of steep mountain was the way he described it. He showed me some pics of the ram he was after but he was in a hard to get to location. The ram was a real Dandy. The country he was hunting in was real nasty judging by the pictures but he felt confident he would get his ram if he could get to his location before sun up. Said it was just him and a long time hunting buddy trying to get it done. I wished him good luck. I know nothing about sheep and even stopped applying for them 10-12 years ago. I never had a strong desire to kill one but I admire guys who do it the "old school" way.

I once "lost" a sportsmans warehouse gift card with almost $200 on it and a Ben Avery shooter pass with 8 punches remaining. Thought they were long gone as they had been missing for almost 3 years. Went to the shooting range and when I opened a little side pocket on one of my gun cases I found both. It was like a gift all over again. Getting old sucks.

I have a 33 tag and look forward to hunting the 26th - 31st. Might hunt the 17th & 18th also.

Was watching yesterdays meeting on the G&F webcam and I noticed G&F presented the recommendation that they would no longer make three attempts to notify someone if there card was rejected. They said there system is virtually error free now and this service could now be eliminated. They did say they would post on portal and email people to make sure credit cards are updated just before they actually start charging cards. This was recommended and all the commissioners voted in support. Now hopefully the results will be posted a little sooner after the cards have been charged. We currently wait weeks after cards hit so they could call all those applicants with card issues. How much you want to bet the results are out no sooner? Good Luck in the draws & Happy Hunting

I came across these two back in 2013. One had been dead for quite some time and the other was barely hanging on. Sad to say it was not a happy ending. If you go back through all the episodes you can see how the events played out. I am the fat guy in shorts.

Congratulations on the beautiful buck. There are plenty of places to up there but the early hunt has some pretty popular areas. I did not draw this year but I'm headed up Saturday morning for a few days just to learn it better and checkout some new areas. I have learned that it is not always the snow that pushes them down. When everything freezes on top and they can't break the ice then they move down. If I can help someone hunting, I will do that too.

That is odd your friend would get a surrendered elk tag. The point guard and tag surrender program was not even in place for the elk and antelope draw. It first became available for the deer draw. Something does not jive.
