  1. With all that recent rain and flooding from 9-10 days ago did it have much impact on lake levels at Roosevelt and San Carlos?
  2. Did any of these recent rains help San Carlos or Roosevelt?

    Rain coming.

The talking heads you see on TV or hear on radio have zero accountability. They spew crap out their upper butt hole all the time and people listen to it as fact. When was the last time these draft prognosticators lost their job due to their predictions? Sorry to siderail this thing but it kinda hit a nerve. Carry on.

    Sold

Had one just like this for 12 years. Went anywhere I asked it to and never let me down. The only thing that happened to it was the $3 plastic tube gas line from gas tank(under seat) dry rotted and split. I recommend carrying extra tubing in glove box. Its a 2 minute fix. GLWS

Is unit 1 archery worth a shot?

Everybody is different but I would consider what method of hunting brings you the most joy. I'm in my 60's and killed two with a rifle and two with a bow, No way I am ever hunting antelope with a gun again. For me, hunting with a bow and arrow is MUCH more fun and satisfying. Good Luck on whatever you decide but I say just hunt.

Always a chance. My daughter drew unit 5b when she just turned 10 and only had her HS point. Only 5 tags issued and she was tag#1. I admit that was Crazy luck

I sold my 1983 6" blue colt python right before I graduated college because I needed money. $450 and I still kick myself for doing it. GLWS

    Youth Tag Donation?

I wasn't aware of the change in rules. From my experience, that is probably a good rule change. That's about how long it has been since last time I volunteered.

    Youth Tag Donation?

I have volunteered to help with these hunts donated to ex military. I would say the above is what I experienced. The two hunters in camp said they were offered multiple tags every year. They hunted more than most because they had the time and were available to go at short notice. One guy hunted a donated archery hunt in Sept. with crossbow but did not kill and then was offered a donated Nov. Muzzy elk tag. Definitely not a perfect system.

    Dragon Bravo Fire

The mindset of putting fires out immediately is partly why we see such devastation when there are fires. Fires are a normal part of the entire ecology. Nobody likes to see property destroyed or people injured but this is what happens when all you have done is suppress fire for the last 100 years or so. Logging and thinning helps but it doesn't do near as much good as an occasional fire rolling through. Native Americans purposely started fires because they new after fires the lands were healthier and attracted more wildlife for them to hunt. When I went to ASU more than 30 years ago I had a professor that wrote a book about fires and made me look at them totally different. Good read. https://www.amazon.com/Fire-Rim-Firefighters-Season-Canyon/dp/0295974834

Champ and Crossbow Permit Proposed Changes

If you can hunt with a crossbow then you can hunt with a gun. I have yet to see anywhere in the proposal where it forbids anyone from hunting. The argument of a few on here just doesn't hold sand. Pick up a gun and go hunt. Lastly, everyone's minds are already made up on the issue. I suggest everyone with an opinion one way or another to write G&F or show up and speak at meeting.
  15. I normally begin to see quail hatchlings around middle to end of May. This year has been unusual as I haven't seen any until this week. I saw two different sets very near to one another. One looked to be 3-4 weeks old and the other was just a few days. Hope I start seeing a lot more.

    Looking for a new career

Many high schools around the state teach law enforcement classes. Apply at district offices and most likely don't need a college degree with all your experience. You could get a CTE certificate. Kids are totally different since the advent of smart phone and social media. Pay sucks but contracts are only for 180 days a year. If you really want a job, call and ask to speak to the principal of the school and set up a time to interview.
  17. If we are confessing our sins, the first thing I ever shot with my marlin 30-30 back in 1978 was one of those things that go Beep beep. Glad I finally got that off my chest.
  18. Those invasive grackles do a number on the chicks too.

    12A White Sage Fire

Looking back at the 2002 Rodeo Chedeski fire I bet they wish they got those reservation fences fixed pronto like. All those Indian horses crossed over onto NF & public land and the rest is history of nightmarish proportions.
  20. I never realized how much I took for granted all the public lands we have here in AZ. It wasn't until I graduated college back in 1987 and moved to Texas. So happy I moved back. Hunted NM unit 34 elk and lots of national forest land with little pockets of Private land. They would lock gates to public lands just a few hundred yards down the road. The more and longer we can keep public lands open to general public use the better IMO. Instead of saying we need to sale the land because the government doesn't manage it properly, maybe we should just start managing it properly? We take a lot of things for granted living in AZ and out west. Such as access to public lands and weather. Unless you have come to AZ from some place else or travel to those places for extended periods of time, you never really totally understand.
  21. I'm afraid you are going to be right. This is why we can't relent, give in or forget. The Utards need to do their part and find a good candidate to primary him. Then all of the public land loving people need to put their money where their mouth is and make a contribution to his primary opponent. Eli Crane is also on my watch list to be replaced. Very disappointed in him.

    Wyoming Antelope Draw Results

Got 13 Wyo antelope points and plan on buying more and using them in 2027. Had a successful archery hunt back in 2011 and I plan on doing it again but next time I am going to give decoying a try. The rut was crazy last time I was there. I actually hunted during a gun season but after the opener and never saw another hunter. I spent majority of my time in a blind so not seeing anyone was understandable. Weather was much better too. Congratulations and good luck to those people that drew this year.
  23. Don't let up. Keep writing and calling.
