    Road Hunting, Still Illegal

I have not read all the posts but I can tell you when my best friend and I, who is also my hunting partner are too old to hump the hills, we will become road hunters. We will not break any laws but that is how we will hunt. Probably will not even care if we get anything either because we are almost to that point now. I imagine we will mostly drive around, talk about the good ol' days and drink a thermos of coffee. I don't really care what others think because life is too short to worry about things as trivial as this. Too each their own, I say. Good Hunting

    Rhondas Butcher Shop in Flagstaff

Just ordered 2 pair of these meat cutting gloves. Although I have been fortunate and have never cut myself, I have had plenty of close calls. Often times I am by myself when cutting up animals and this is just a little more piece of mind. Next I have to learn how to make sausage links like you did. I am usually so tired after a hunt that it is just easier to drop it off at meat cutter and have them do everything even though I would prefer to do it myself. thanks

    01 Polaris Sportsman 400

I have this exact same quad. Got it as fathers day gift back in 01. Still runs great and I will probably keep it until it dies. $2500 is a good deal IMO.

PointGuard, good idea or money making scam?

I just wish they would use the money to grow some more animals(more drinkers & habitat improvement) and maybe some predator control. Almost all my discretionary money goes towards hunting and outdoors so I don't mind so much. The non-game branch & admin suck up a lot of the money IMO. I don't golf, go to the bars or pro sports events. Hunting is my passion so I feel like I need to support the dept. & their efforts. Each person has to decide how to spend their money.

The 4th bullet point from above says what I was trying to say. Especially the last sentence.

PointGuard, good idea or money making scam?

Even if you don't plan on sharing points, point guard is a cheap insurance policy. You never know when an emergency, injury or life is going to pop up. Kind of like car insurance, we all complain about it until we need it. Point Guard & $5 is a no brainer for me. That is 1 beer at the bar or 1 of those foo foo drinks from starbucks.

PointGuard, good idea or money making scam?

Actually a person can do it more than once. However it is only after you have used up all your points and started at beginning again. So if someone starts back a 2 and 8 years later has 10 points built back up they are eligible to use point guard protection again.

Are there any Grey Wolves near Forest Lakes????

I sure would hate to mistake one for a coyote while out varmint calling.

    Southern Az rut predictions

I hunted last year. I hunted Dec. 20th-23rd and then the 26th-30th. Before Christmas, I witnessed zero rut action. When I returned on the 26th it was about the same but each day got better. By the 29th and 30th it was obvious rut was kicking in. Bigger bucks were easier to locate and they were chasing does around and smaller bucks away. This was my very first December hunt and I have never hunted them in January so my knowledge is pretty limited.

    Leftover deer tags

I agree the draw seems to have gone pretty smoothly but I wish they would put the archery deer hunts that require to be drawn in with the elk & antelope draw. The hunters that draw barely have a month to get ready for their hunt. Some people have to put in requests for time off work way in advance. If I ever draw a 13B archery tag, I will be doing this diy and I would like more time to scout/prepare. I don't know, it just seems the dept could do some things to make it a little more user friendly. Releasing info to portal account holders early is another example. If you got the info, just release it to everyone. Why make a big deal out of it? They are a govt. tax (hunting & fishing licenses fees are a tax) funded entity, why withhold info? Just say'n.

I also drew the same unit as you except my hunt is in December. Next you are going to tell me you like Bud Light.

    12AW or 12BW ?

You said you had 10 points but never said how many points your dad had. I'm assuming he had 0-2 points because you should have drawn the early hunt if he had 3 or more points? Sorry to hear the bad news and I hope you and your father draw the tags you want next year. The Kaibab is a special place for sure and like someone mentioned already, everyone should experience it at least once in their lifetime.

Best way to meet hunting bros

Finding a good hunting partner can be harder than finding a good wife. I have good friends that hunt that I will not even hunt with for one reason or another. So many things go into a good partner. such as: Help around camp, share costs, keep mouth shut about hunting spots, don't invite outsiders without approval, help in animal recovery, hunting ethics, hunting methods, drinker/non-drinker, I could go on and on. I have found that sometimes it is just easier and better to hunt solo. In my job, I am around people constantly and they are always asking questions. The time alone is pretty special to me. Funny thing about my best hunting partners, we almost always hunt solo but we share a camp and all the other stuff. Very rarely do we actually walk and hunt together. Good luck in your pursuit.

    White Bambino

Always cool to animals like this. In the 90's I used to see an albino buck and two does in unit 20A. Even seen an albino turkey in unit 27.

CWT First "Card Hit" Contest for Raffle Tickets

I wonder how accurate their status bar is? I purchased something on amazon 11 days ago then two days later a get a notice that it has shipped. When a check the status it has not moved in 9 days. It still looks like it is 2/3rds the way to me. I wonder how long the G&F status bar will be at 20%? Sorry to be the one who brings rain clouds & ants to the picnic but G&F draw system has let me down too many times. Thanks for doing this Ross. Good luck to everyone in the fall draw.
