Winchester M70 270wsm VS 300wsm: Conflicted and need insight.
452b264 replied to deserttacoma84's topic in Long Range Shooting
For a truly long range round you can rule out the 270 unless you are using the Matrix 165 gr. bullet. And I wouldn't shorten the barrel of either caliber, they both need at least 24 in. -
Reloading equipment.

i agree with most of what you say. Except this is Southern Arizona, water is the biggest issue here, is it far from roads?,yes but alot is close to roads too. It's a far cry from the upper west coast that has moisture and food to support the tag numbers for years to come. A few years of heavy drought and half of az is done. High predator population is also very hard on the deer herd when their numbers become low.
-
I find it a little amusing to hear everyone complain about 2450 deer tags issued for unit 33. Where I grew up in the Pacific north west they issued 26,200 tags for my hometown unit, and I walked into game and fish bought two buck tags and walked out the door every year. I some very impressive bucks from there as do my friends, you have to hunt smarter and harder. The unit will still hold older age deer, you must be willing to look where they spend their time, no matter how rough or far from the road you must travel. You must look in places no one else will hunt. Very thick or straight up and down, 8 miles from the road etc.

WTB PTG MAGNUM BOLT HEAD FOR A SAVAGE 7 MM REM./300 WIN. RIGHT HAND, RIGHT PORT.

Found one, Thanks again everyone.
-
Thanks for the help everyone , but I am set on getting a Pacific Tool and Gauge bolt head.
-
Thanks for the reply, but midway wont have them until the end of the year. I ordered one from PTG, last Nov. and they don't have any until? this is why I have three wtb ads out hoping someone has one they would like to part with. It is the only thing holding up my build, right now I would buy an entire rifle strip the bolt head off and resell the gun.

Well done, I wonder what it can do with hand loads?

McGowen stands behind their work, excellent CS. I prefer to buy direct from a manufacture. Benchmark is also excellent to deal with and provide their barrels on time, and they will make any contour you desire. They are also extremely accurate.

Colorado Over the counter Elk Hunt... Considering a trip this fall
452b264 replied to rcgcu's topic in Elk Hunting
During the 2nd through 3rd seasons you will be hunting mostly 10,000 ft. and up in elevation. Maybe as low 9,000 ft. unless you are on private property. Most of the bulls are rag horns, and a 260 bull is a must shoot on sight during the OTC hunts. Which unit are you planning a hunt for? -
Post some targets when you get it finished?
-
12 AW Late would be my first choice.

The wheeler wrenches work just fine. Ever hear about the one behind the trigger? It makes a difference. I have both the nut and receiver wrench, they work great. Were do you live? you will need the go/no go gauges.
