I know it's too early to scout for a youth hunt. I love the unit though. Wanted to get out and walk around, check some spots, do some shed hunting. Was not disappointed. It's super dry in Arizona. Out of all the water spots I hit, 1 had water. (Out of. . 15?) I was surprised. I image they're hitting the big lakes for water but they're still found all throughout the unit regardless if the water has dried up or not. That got me thinking. Habit? Social activity? Shortcuts? The places I hit usually have water, but not lately. And there's still strong sign in the area. Of course, I have an entire monsoon + a month before the youth hunt, and it's going to change a lot, but it really go me thinking about Elk habits. I bet there's a massive Elk party at that water hole in the middle of the unit every night.

I'm assuming there is water- it's huge. I really hope that didn't dry up!! There's supposed to be a large variety of fish in Soldier and Long Lake. Coconino National Forest - Soldier / Long Lakes (usda.gov)

There's this less-than-awesome road around Jaycox - the 82. Go slow 😃 Next time I go up I'm doing time at Long Lake. Never caught a pike before.

Got a box of 30-30 Accelerators. (20 in a box) Never had a 30-30. Must've gotten them from a trade somewhere. Looks kinda old. Let me know when you get up to New River and I'll meet ya at the Roadrunner. Free.

Wife and I made an attempt to get up there. Almost made it from the 41, but it was too hot and didn’t have the time. We’ll try next week. On the way back on a neighboring finger, saw a rock with some drawings.. What do those spirals mean?? Was about 50 yards from a mini ruin with two rooms that I could make out. Also found a circle of sorts- about 50 yards wide. The only thing that made it a circle was a series of rocks that had a rock on top of it. Kinda like a trail marker but we were bushwhacking- no trails in the area. That was kinda cool. That was pretty close to the petro.

The road is from heck. Even in a Ranger I'm bouncing all over the place.

Is there an ammo conversion in this somewhere? 😃

The 101 is an absolutely fantastic wheelgun. A bit heavy though. I still carry it as a backup in my EDC travels. On the trails it's a great snake gun with a .357 CCI..
