So I finally got a Ranger. With 7 hunts between now and the end of the year, with 3 being Elk, I thought this was a total necessity. I'm going to put a winch in the front. What I want to do- as I've seen done in Youtube's with winching an elk into the bed- is to attach an electric hoist above the box. (I have an extended roll cage over the cargo area- the bed still dumps) Has anyone installed anything like that? I'm also trying to find a DC Hoist- most of what I see are indoor stuff. I could install two winches, but a hoist makes more sense in the back. Here's a pic for reference:

While we're at it.. I replaced the belt and I'm looking to replace this part. I don't know what it is- anyone? It's cracked. Seems like a cheap fix.

Thanks guys- all great suggestions. I think I'm going to go with a winch in front and a hoist in the back- they're super cheap and I could use them for just about anything.

I’m willing to bet every person reading this has been caught in nasty lightning. A friend from work wanted to try archery hunting. New hunter. So I set him up on Mt Ord. His brother went with him, and setup a stand 100 yards further down the mountain. Lots of doe all day- and then I get a text that his brothers tree got nailed with lightning with him in it. Fortunately it took the brunt of the blast and the paramedics gave him the ok. Thank god! There was a storm about 10-15 miles west and they thought they were clear. Just be safe out there.. you never know. For those who don’t know, apparently lightning can travel up to twenty miles. Monsoon season in Az is no joke. Especially this year. (What a first day on a first hunt)

Hola. The Polaris Ranger fund continues! Not a coin guy, but I found this gem in the pile. It's a 1995 Silver Coin - 1 lb silver. Most water holes are on roads anyways. It's not the water you need to hit- it's the paths that lead up to it. And that's almost evident by google earth! A quick trip and a walk 100 yards up a trail will confirm it.

I have a Big Heater Buddy. Used to love it, but it got REAL finicky. I thought of adding a propane filter when it started acting up. Then it wouldn't even work. I'm done with this thing. I've spent more than a few nights colder than I had to be. What's a good one? I'll be using it as a backup in an Alaknak if I have to. I use the low O2 sensors with them as well.

I'll take it apart one more time. I thought I covered the bases, maybe not. Maybe there's a youtube or something.

Go karts are awesome! No story behind the backpack, but I was thinking when I get a Kifaru I can use it as a toddler carry and do some training at the same time. Go kart dropped to $450. Ill throw it in craigs next week.

Antelope crawl under Hilarious to watch too. They all bunch up and go under the same spot one at a time. I've seen that a couple times in 19a. Funny critters. I bet! Thanks for the answers.

First, some of you with cameras up in 7W on those Trick Tanks are going to laugh when you see all the moves we did when we checked them out. And there's a bunch. One tank had 3 cam's stacked on top of each other. I told the boys we didn't even need to look for sign anymore- just count the cameras. more cameras = a better spot =) The tricks definitely seemed to pull more talent than the open tanks. We hit about 12-15 water holes yesterday, and spent most of the day starting at the north entrance to Red Mountain. Those road stop abruptly. Some had signs up saying "Stay on numbered roads" next to a "Road Closed sign" and the gate was padlocked. (I got a pic of that). Quite the contradiction. Also, we found elk- but nothing like I'd want to see before a hunt. Maybe we're looking in the wrong spots- I dunno. We're going back twice more before the mid youth cow hunt in October. I'm glad the roads didn't suck. A stock F250 did fine. I'm taking the Yukon though next trip- better suspension. Oh, and 7E is on fire. Not sure if it's planned, but there was some THICK smoke on the way out yesterday afternoon. We might try coming up from Williams next trip. I don't think we found a decent area yet.

Also.. while I'm here.. I noticed some of those white tubes were over the wire in some places. I call it Fat Elk crossing. But they were on the bottom wire. I'm assuming something is crawling under. I'm not sure what it is.. most critters jump the fence?

So I live in New River, and coyotes aren't uncommon. Lately, they're in the yard and causing problems with the pets. So I'm taking the fight to them. Wanted something remotely quiet (ok, quiter than a '06) so I'm thinking 22 mag rifle. Is that going to be enough? I know where they are- about a mile out. I just didn't want to make too much noise. I could stay up till 3am and use the bow, but a mans gotta sleep..
