  1. I just ordered 3, and picked up 6 new arrows from Sportsmans. I ruined 3 trying to get in the same hole at 60 yards. (HAH- soon, I hope) I hear they fly almost as well as a field point. If they don't open, there's still 3 fixed blades. Anyone have any experience with these?

    Tripod advice

Thanks guys. I'll do some looking- there's some great suggestions.
  3. I figure those who are hunting the area should know. https://www.facebook.com/NavajoCounty/posts/1618008784885643
  4. So I've been hunting deer awhile, and I always had this assumption that they hit water much more often than I've observed. Trying out the new binocs, I'm climbing a decent hill overlooking a water hole. Come 7:15pm, they're coming out of the woodwork. I'm glassing does and bucks 50-600 yards away. They're all doing their thing, slow grazing across the desert. And completely ignoring the water hole between us. I'm thinking if I was a deer and pinned down by 110 all day and hid under a bush, come sundown I'd be thirsty. And I guess that's really not the case at all. They might be getting their water somewhere else, or maybe it's in the foods they eat. But watching, real time, has changed my perception quite a bit. Water isn't everything. They're not hitting it at night either. Oh there's a few new tracks once in awhile, but for the area, they largely avoid it. Just how often do coues drink? Once every two days? Three? Is it possible to skip water for long periods and get the necessary fluid out of what they eat?

    Deer and Water

The water has a soft edge of mud all around.. so I know it's only being briefly visited. I might see a fresh new set of tracks daily. (I watched for 4 days). Good info all, thanks. I guess it's a crap shoot. I have 2 cams up but nothing ever hit. They dont follow the same path- and criss cross everywhere. I've seen more deer real time. Deer every night, but the variety changes. I've got less than two weeks to make sure I'm accurate to 60 yards..I'll just focus on that =)
  7. I was sitting on a great patch of land in 21. I just got the Vortex bino's and wanted to try them out. As luck would have it, three awesome deer stroll in. I tried to get some vid (Iphone 5s), but the usual "No space available" came up. The next morning I got a 7 Plus 128. Ok, so I want some decent video in the future, and I'm thinking of digiscoping. When I use the 7 with the Vortex binos, it works out. I hold it up to the eyepiece and I can see what it's looking at through the phone- no problem. When I use it on the Simmons Spotting Scope I get literally nothing. I'm picking up a Phone Skope in a few weeks when the lifeproof adapter for that phone is made available. I guess my question would be, does this technique work with some optics, and not others? I did manage to get a few pics- to the point where the wife gave the ok for a new Double Bull Deluxe
  8. Good to know. I'll give it a shot. Thanks!

    Google Earth to Base Camp

I've used Google Earth a long time.. I have pins everywhere. But I ran into your problem. I use GaiaGPS (Web and App) and Avenza Maps. What I do is just cross reference a few of the spots from GE into GaiaGPS on the website.. it automatically transfers to the app. Im using Gaia more and more- I might peruse around a bit on GE, but I'll hop on the other monitor and mark the pin on the GaiaGPS website. With that being said.. maybe you should look into the web/app handshake. I have to say it works out nicely.

  16. Hi guys, My son just got a 300 win mag for his Bday- and we're putting it together. It was fairly straightforward, but I had a question about the bolt. The (what I think is called) the cocking piece pin on the bolt was in the *up* position- trying to slide the bolt home was impossible in that position. Youtube suggested moving the pin to the *down* position. It slid right in. The instructions say you should never have to mess with it. Anyone have any similar experiences? Is it ok to move it down? I don't see how it would've slid home any other way.

Coyote trapping on my own property

New River.. I have the same problem. Dropped 3 deuces outside my door- 1 each night. I setup a cam- doesn't come back. When he does.. I have a broadhead ready. I think it's after the pet rabbit.

    12A West Youth Hunt - Who's going?

My boys will be there in Nov. The camp that they host I understand is phenomenal, we just tag out on the way to it.. There's more deer than squirrels. And since you've hunted it before, you know it can get really cold. I'd bring the gear for it. Good luck!

    Snakeshot

Well, used the last of the snake shot last night on a 4ft diamondback. The .22 shot sucks btw. Took two to the head and kept grinning. The 45 put him down, unfortunately used a buffalo bore bear round on it. (Thought I had the 230 ball in the pipe) I can't seem to find any shot for a .45 online? Everyone I looked up says out of stock. Must be a shortage on them or something.. or maybe we're dealing with that many more snakes!

    Snakeshot

The 45 stuff works great- it's just hard to locate. I'll try a few of the local shops. It's for checking the cams- one mag usually filled with the stuff and the other ball- for bobcats and whatnot.

    Cellular game cams

It's a little techy, but you can make your own. I haven't yet... but it's on the list. http://www.ehow.com/how_5772777_build-camera-live-video-stream.html
  23. So it used to be a good camera. First week I had it up- 4500 pics. All grass. Whaaaa? Second week. 5000+ pics all of nature. (Not even of the 2 coues bucks I busted on the way to go check it) I test it out on a brick wall. One day was like 500 pics. Obviously something's wrong here. Is this the type of thing that kills a camera or maybe there's a fix? Also- it's creating garbage directories that cannot be deleted and the card has to be formatted.
