Hey folks, Before I go out to Cabela's (or the gun shop around the corner) shopping, thought I'd see if anyone here was thinking about getting rid of one from their collection. My son is 10 y/o, about 4'+ tall and 56 lbs. He's never shot a shotgun before. Looking for something he can handle well. I have my eyes on the Mossberg 500 Super Bantam at 20 gauge w/22" barrel. I had him hold and aim my Mossberg 500 12 gauge with the 18" barrel. He couldn't aim right with the limb saver recoil pad on but when i took it off, it felt more comfortable for him. Without the recoil pad, the LOP was 12". I actually cut off an inch from the stock so with the recoil pad, LOP is 13" and it's perfect for me. Hoping to get him something to use for the next dove season but want to get it at least a month or two before so we can go out and practice with it. I plan on getting some low recoil shells (980 fps) to start him off with. If you have anything, please post here or PM me with pics, price and location. Also, looking for anyone's personal opinion on the Mossberg 500 Super Bantam in case one doesn't come up for sale here. Good starter gun for a small kid? Thanks in advance. Ben

I heard the government is using them for training cause it's cheaper to shoot the the regular rounds used. So they buy millions of them and leave a few thousands for the rest of the country. Not sure the validity of that statement. Just what I heard

Ouch. Sorry for the loss.

+1 here. Big Heng was the first restaurant that came to mind when I saw the subject. I live like 5 min from them and we eat there when we can't think of what to eat at a given night. I'd like to add that they're fast in getting out the food regardless of how busy they are. For Thai I like to go to Touch of Thai on Bell Ave west of I17.

For those that know a lot about quads, does this sound like a good deal? 1998 Polaris Sportsman 500 4x4 650 miles $2500 obo Body looks decent from pictures. Assuming it runs good when I inspect, I'm thinking of asking $2000 and meeting him somewhere in the middle. Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Nice price. Would have jumped on this if I didn't just buy a Polari (yesterday). Good luck with your sale.

Interesting idea. I like the idea of educating your children at an early age. My kids won't even touch our pellet rifle without asking first. In fact, I have to ask them to come out and do target shooting with me. They won't pick one up and pretend to shoot or point at any living thing. I can trust that they will not touch any of my firearms. They know that if they ever want to handle one out of curiosity that I will always allow them with my supervision. In military situation I'm sure that our soldiers would want to be able to use another firearm in case theirs is lost or becomes disabled. I don't want my firearms to have any computerized parts. Keep it simple stupid.

Tucson John, very nice to meet you today. Thanks for the great deal. My wife loves her new to her quad. Can't wait to take her out. Thanks again for everyone's input. Ben

I guess I just haven't been hunting long enough as most of you, but I don't really see a big problem with the extension. Yes people should have applied weeks ago. But then again, those that waited last minute has their reason (laziness, financial, priorities, unsure of schedule). Whatever it may be it's none of my business. The system should be able to handle the load but it didn't. It's cost benefit analysis thing for the department to make. Is it worth the money to be able to handle the load each year? Or is it worth it to make the late applicants happy and allow them another 24 hours to apply when the system crashes AND piss off the people who apply early knowing that it will not affect next year's #s because the early birds will be back regardless? Either case, the draw will happen and we all will know if we get to hunt or not. Maybe next year, they'll have 8 servers instead of 4. I blame my wife for me not caring about being late. I am one of those that always show up early. She's one that shows up when she gets there (mostly late). I've learned to live with it because it wasn't worth getting mad everytime she's late or causes me to be late. Some day, maybe, we all can just live with it or the system will catch up and be able to handle the load. Wish you all good luck on the draw.

Reminds me of the movie, brokeback mountain. My wife bought it not knowing what it was about and I ragged on her for a week. It went un-opened for a good month (probably should have returned it) until one weekend we decided to just watch it and get it over with. Well after watching it, I gave it to my best friend as a bday gift...LOL.

Wow. Awesome video. That's one helluva sharp knife. I need to put one of those in my wish list. I think me knives are currently not up to par compared to his knife.

I'm the first in my family to even think about hunting and eating meat that's not beef, chicken, pork or fish. I learned how to hunt by reading on the internet. I'm still learning. I've only hunted dove and squirrel. I'm trying to involve my kids as much as possible. I've still got a lot to learn and I appreciate everyone on this site for their knowledge and willing to share with people like me. For 2015, I plan on having 3 camping trips with my family...a rabbit camp in March, a fishing camp in May and a squirrel camp in October. I hope to do this every year and have my kids grow up loving to hunt (they already love to camp). My wife will just be there for moral support . Of course, I'll be out dove hunting in Sept and Nov/Dec. I hope to add big game hunting as the years go by and I gain more gear and knowledge. Thanks again to everyone here!!! Merry Christmas to you all. God Bless...
