    first coues

It was 11:00 on Sunday morning before I got out of camp. It was overcast and looked like it might rain. I headed to a canyon near a tank I had glassed on Friday. When I got to the tank I hiked about a mile north to the canyon and set up on a flat rock on the edge of a cliff overlooking the canyon. Not long after I settled in behind the binoculars I heard falling rock from across the canyon. I focused on where the noise came from and saw 3 doe and a spike feeding. The range to the spike was about 245 yards and I decided to not pass up something today I would shoot on closing day so I took the shot. The spike went down right away. It took a while to get down into the STEEP canyon. Once I located the spike I hung him up a tree and skinned and quartered him. I wadded it all up in my pack and strapped the head to the outside. Getting out took about 2 hours.

Find the deepest nastiest canyon that you think you could never haul a deer out of, and thats the spot....

    Water filter

My dad gave me a First Need Deluxe Water Purifier by General Ecology and I had it for 10 years. When it got stolen 2 years ago I bought a new one. BTW the First Need is a purifier and not a filter. Check out the difference between the two.

    Brunton

Bought a pair of 15x51 this summer to replace my Leupold Olympic 12x50. I would buy them again in a heart beat.

    Family Strengths

I am the processing manager for a large clinical laboratory (we do the blood tests and such for your Dr.) If you have questions about medical tests I may be of help but I really have no useful skills

What do you use to keep it steady?

Seems like a lot of people do not bother with the extra weight and complications of additional gear for this purpose. I take that in the topography where most people hunt the usefulness of bipods and other similar gear seems to be hit or miss. I think ill take off the Harris bipod and give it a try. Thanks for all the input.

    Burn Areas

With all the fires we have ad in the past few years I was wondering how these burn areas effect the W/t deer. Does the new growth have a positive effect on populations. Does it take a while for populations to return to prefire levels??????

Sounds like a Foxworthy stand up bit.

    Developing Loads

I too have the 700 in 300 Win Mag. I had problems with the Hornady balistic tips. So far I have found that the best load out of my gun is the 180gr. Sierra Match King with 77 gr. of h-4831 and Winchester magnum rifel primers. I use the maximum OAL. This load helps keep my 700 out-shooting me.
