My partner and I got lucky and bagged a couple of decent bucks. I shot the first one on Sunday at 150yards one shot dropped right there....the next day i guided my partner in the same area and we glassed a fork horn 376 yards across the canyon. At this point he was open to harvest whatever God gave him....we snuck in unnoticed to 276 yards and that buck got up to stretch...when he got up a couple of does and this bigger buck got up too...we quickly forgot that forky and my partner sealed the deal with my 50 cal T/C omega using BH209 and Hornady SST 250gr. He dropped like a ton of bricks. The pack out was a nightmare but as you guys know once it's in the truck and you have a cold beer in hand it's all good and the high fiving begins..... Overall it was a great hunt...I love that area. I was actually on that nice 7x5 with the awesome left side a couple days before the opener...but we got 5" of snow and i lost track of him...glad someone got to harvest that toad. I was in the area when they took him...looks like he didn't stray far from where i spotted him. I learned a lot of great lessons on this hunt. About hunting, about animal behavior, about the hunting unit, and about my partner (save that for another thread lol). Hopefully it doesn't take me 8 yrs to draw again. Special thanks to Lance on this site for providing me with some sage advice about how to adjust with the changing hunting dynamics and providing great encouragement. Hunt had some ups and downs but ended on an up for sure. I owe you one Lance!

thanks...the funny thing is my gps was on the side of the pack, well secured of course by the gear keeper .....it sucks. not to belabor the point, but below is a picture with gps where it's at. it should be in the black circle area. I killed myself for 3 hours looking for it....i can't believe someone ganked it while i was glassing but who knows....anyway, i walked up via the green line and glassed the northern facing slopes in the canyon. not to upsell the area, but alot of big bucks were shot in the burn above this area so it might not be a bad place to check out thanks for your time miles -

Thx man! -
3 days ago, Like a dipstick I set my pack and glass down and didn't walk more than 40 yards and wasn't able to relocate my stuff. I walked that area and then some in grids, circles, etc and couldn't find my for the life of me. I was in unit 12a east, took the 224 road down to the game trail road (220) and went south on the 220 right where it changes from burn to pine trees and junipers. I lost it at the top of a ridge glassing the northern facing side of a canyon. The area I was glassing from was burned. Maybe someone stole it right from under my nose but I'm hoping it's still up there and you late rifle hunters will find it. I can describe the bag, glass, and contents. Will make it worth your while if you return it to me as it had my core hunting stuff. Thanks. Miles

i bought that heavy nylon 5.11 belt (i think that's the brand) from bass pro. it's that line of clothing they sell for tactical shooting, swat, etc. they had a green color and i wore it all last weekend at kaibab with my glock on my hip and it did a good job, stayed tight, etc. i got the green one...
