    Garmin Xero Bow Sight

I don’t understand why you think this will result in more wounded animals. Reckless shots are being taken and will continue to be taken but at least now the shooter has better data to take the shot, esp in quick shot situations. Anyway, to each their own.

    Swaro 15x56 question

Question on the Swaro 15x56 naming convention. Is the NEU non HD and the NEU WB HD? Is there a difference in the HD glass from a gen 1 HD, gen 2 HD, etc etc.

    Garmin Xero Bow Sight

Looks pretty sweet to me. The big benefit is it will result in fewer wounded animals which is a good thing.

Alaska Trip Help (updated with trip report pics)

Don't forget the bears! We had them 20 yards from us eating salmon working their way up a creek. The pic of hte fisherman in line gives you a sense on what it's like on the kenai...except plan for triple worse lol. We had a boat drop us off each day in an inaccessible area so it wasn't bad for us. We absolutely crushed it on halibut...we had a 500+ pound stringer.

Alaska Trip Help (updated with trip report pics)

take it with the grain of salt, but i was in alaska last year on a guys salmon and halibut fishing trip....and that time of year fly fishing isn't where it's at to catch fish. you're either snagging reds or back trolling for kings. if you want to hit alaska and catch the king/red run then that is totally cool and can be done on a pretty tight budget (less airfare and car rental which will cost you at least two grand i reckon...plus food, plus the cost to ship your fish back to AZ) there are plenty of spots to shore fish on the kenai or russian (or you can ask a guy to drop you on spots and pick you up for cheap) and you'll get into the reds/sockeyes assuming the run is good....as you said it's kind of combat fishing...but when they're running as long as you have a spot on the water you can catch em. you can get a guide and go for kings but that'll probably cost you a few hundred per person per day (probably more like $400+). you can also get on a halibut charter and even though it's only two of you they will group you up with others (we had 8 fisherman on our boat including 2 outsiders)...i don't recall exact costs but you're probably looking at a few hundred there as well. if fly fishing is what you're after i bet there are a bunch of better options in colorado where you won't blow $1200 on airfare. i have a 12 year old son as well and i honestly wouldn't take him to alaska until he's in his teens due to the investment....but more importantly, i wouldn't put him through a camping type scenario for an extended period of time that far from home because that gets kind of old after a while (a nice shower and shitter is priceless). bottom line, even doing alaska cheap will run you close to three grand per person all in. If you're going to do it, save up the money and do it right....it truly is an amazing experience and i definitely will be going back (it's kind of an every 3 year deal in my opinion vs every year).
  7. i'm very early in the construction process of a new home. i am going to buy a new safe and want to bolt it down in the garage. The foundation will be post tension. I was thinking about having hte builder pour an extra 4 " step in a section of the garage so i don't have to worry about drilling into the cable. Has anyone done anything like this? Any concerns or considerations or key learnings to share?

    Trailer Valet for sale

I have a used but in good shape trailer valet for sale. I bought it to move my bass boat around after i hurt my achilles tendon but now that i'm healed up i don't use much anymore. The only issue with it is that the master link on the chain disengaged and i can't find the locking mechanism. You can see the chain hanging in the pic. It can be easily purchased at a cycle shop or can be ordered from the company direct for shipping cost only (I checked into that already). The tires are good and hold air....makes moving those duel axle trailers around much much easier (way easier than go jacks in my opinion). It's rated to move 5000 lb trailers. You can see in the picture how it would mount to the trailer. The gray bracket has alot of adjustment to accomodate different size trailer frames. When you are not using it you can remove the locking pin and remove the entire system or you can simply tilt it 90º and lock it in that position (I never towed my trailer with it on...i only used it when i stowed it in my garage so once the boat was hooked to my truck i took it off). I paid $400 + tax new....looks like they are on sale on their web site for $370 including tax.......priced to sell at $250. For more information regarding how it works you can go to their website at : https://www.trailervalet.com/ . There are also some you tube videos. Thanks Miles

    My Sheep Hunt

    congrats!
  10. from what i read online in various forums just shoot it and don't abuse it and it will last you a long time. clean it when the groups start opening up or before a prolonged preparation session (e.g. few trips to the range prior to a hunt and making sure you are still good to not have to clean it right before the hunt)

    WTB Tri Clawps

Looking to buy a tri clawps for my son's upcoming doe hunt on the kaibab. We tried shooting off a tripod with a simple "V" rest and it went ok but i believe a triclawps that holds the rifle more assertively with dialed up tension on the tripod head will increase our odds of a clean 1 shot kill considerably. if i don't hear back in a day or two i'll pull the trigger on a new one. thx miles

Advice on rifle for son 13yr

i ended up getting my son a 7mm/08 Savage Axis 2. I went this direction because i could load a lite load (120gr) for deer and a heavier load (140gr) for elk. He's a little recoil sensitive now. The Axis 2 is a shooter. I posted a review on it somewhere but it was shooting .3 MOA on handloads. The scope is decent....not high end by no means but for a start rifle it's adequate.
  20. I don't have time to build my own...wondering if anyone makes them or will be making some for themselves and i can pay some money to get one made for me. Something of medium size with cheap wheels on it so i can drag it out of the sun/weather when i'm not using it. let me know. thx miles

    Savage Axis 2 7mm-08 review

Picked this up from BPS for ~$400. Developed a few different loads (altering seating depth) at 41gr of H4895, with 120gr Nosler BT Hunters. Goal is to use the gun on my upcoming son's doe hunt in Kaibab. First impressions, nice action, nice accutrigger (i adjusted to min ~2.5 lbs). Stock is cheap, barrel is lite. I like hte lighter overall package, but the barrel warms up after a few shots which makes load development kind of a hassle. Results speak for themselves. i think i found a winning load....
